I cannot see if it is working or not because wherever i try to share it nothing happens.. Why not just add it to the photos and vids in the Gallery and let us share it from there? Then at least we can check it beforehand.

OK I finally got it to Facebook but the quality there is crap as it isn't HD. It looks better on the computer and Flicker when extracted with the tool. Please make this to save to an album on the phone.

I had to upload to Google Drive and then download from there and upload to Facebook to get any decent quality... phew ... a lot of unecessary work if it could only save to the phone.

To upload to Facebook you can just share directly there (no need to upload to Google Drive). It will all be the same quality either way -- basically whatever is stored in the image (my app has no influence on the quality, it just extracts what is stored inside the image as is).

As for saving to a folder, I can add that quite easily (as well as other features), however I wanted to see if there was any demand for this kind of utility in the first place before spending more time on it. In the meantime, you can do this fairly easily with the current version by sharing to a file manager (I use Solid Explorer) which will just write it to disk wherever you want.

I tried saving to a folder with ES File Explorer but it didn't work. I know that the videos and photos get quality reduced when sending them to Facebook directly from the phone. The file i downloaded from Drive and uploaded to Facebook was better and would allow me to select the HD setting whilst playing the video on Facebook. That I know is not your fault but the way FB works.

It is certainly a very useful apk and I'm sure it will be popular with S7 users once it is polished up a bit.

OK fine now using Solid Explorer. I don't know why Es didn't work.. I updated my review too.

Ahh, so you were uploading to FB via desktop from Drive? As a side note, the FB app recently added a "Upload HD Photos" option in the Android app, not sure if that will also help for videos but it does seem to help for photos.

Good to hear. I find it useful myself which is why I wrote it :)

Ok glad it's working and thanks for updating your review. I couldn't get it working with ES File Explorer either but I'm pretty sure it's not my fault. And I prefer Solid Explorer anyway :)

Thanks for trying it out and for the feedback!

@adam--k Thank you for the mention. I have downloaded your app and tried it out and it works fine. I have rated it 5 stars and also commented that it works fine.
if your able to it would be a nice feature if you could have it save the jpeg and video locally to the phone. I did try the es file explorer cause i already have it installed. I will try with something else later.

Thanks @goofwear. I will update it in the next day or so to let you save the video file directly (as well as save multiple files in one go). That will avoid having to use a separate file manager :)

Have Samsung now taken your idea? After a recent software update I noticed the following...
When I choose motion photos in my gallery and choose to share them I select the ones I want as before and then it gives me the option of saving them as video or photo files and then saves them to the same album. It does not direct me to several sharing types where I select your apk...?
In fact although I have not deleted your apk it now does not show on the list of sharers anymore so i cannot use your apk anymore?

If I choose the option of saving as a video file your apk doesn't show in the list, but if I choose the option of saving as an image file it does and then can go on to save a gif as usual....

It would be nice to have slower gif options too.

I wonder if Samsung can be convinced to make the Motion Photos longer than 2 seconds.. I would prefer about 4 seconds myself.

They haven't really taken my idea as such as they have implemented the feature they should have always had :) I think it's great they have responded so quickly and built it into the system.

As for the Motion Photo Sharer app, as you noticed, it now supports exporting to animated GIF support so hopefully some people still find it useful for that (plus it has multi-motion photo export).

And yes to use it you will need to share as picture as the app reads a motion photo (jpg) not the video itself.

When you say slower GIF options, what do you mean exactly? Right now it exports the speed based on the timing of the video.

I suppose for me the short video clips are too short at only 2 seconds, and the gif's set to only 5 fps still go too quickly. I wish Samsung would lengthen the time.

Not sure where to go to make such suggestion to Samsung.. I'm sure it is only a software thing so they could lengthen the time to say 4 seconds quite easily?

Ah I see. Right now changing the fps value doesn't actually change the length of the GIF. For example, if the video was 3 seconds then the GIF will still be 3 seconds regardless of if 5 fps, 8 fps or higher fps is set (it just plays the frames slower or faster as needed). I could add an option to choose the play time if you think that would be useful? So you could just to play the GIF at normal speed or slow speed.

Really not sure, that's a question for Samsung :) I'm guessing it's not that difficult to lengthen it, but there's probably some trade offs such as JPG file size going up further and longer writes to disk between shots.

Slow-Speed could be a funny thing. Would be great if you add this feature! :)

The Motion Photo video clips are shot at 29 or 30 fps, but the Slow motion mode on the S7 uses 240 fps. Sometimes that is a bit too slow so some kind of sliding adjustment would be nice. If you save a Slo-Mo video it captures the whole clip at slow motion, but if you adjust it in the phone player by moving the bars along, you can make only a certain section of the clip go at slo-mo.... and you can then save it like that by exporting it first.

Good job with this app.I appreciate the work . However i must be doing something wrong..I try to share a gif created from the app on whatsapp..however on the receiving end, they are getting either a short vid or just a photo..not a gif as created by the app. Am i doing something wrong? Is there a certain step i am missing? It creates a gif and saves it to my gallery..its when i send it..it gives my an option to send video or image..i tried both..and no gif. Thanks in advance

I think the problem is WhatsApp doesn't support animated GIFs :( It may actually share the GIF file but the user on the other side would then have to download the file and view it in a gallery app that can view animated GIFs. It's probably easier just to share the mp4 video from Motion Photo Sharer to WhatsApp instead.

I figured that had something do with it..thanks for the reply

    Hi all,

I saw the Motion Photo Extractor tool and decided to put together a super simple, quick Android app that can extract and share the video portion of a motion photo captured on your S7 or S7 Edge.

It's up on Play now so check it out if you tend to capture most of your photos as motion photos:
    Motion Photo Sharer

    Cheers,

    Adam

Damn @adam--k you are the man. Thank you very much. I can guarantee your app will be EXTREMELY POPULAR!!

:) Update is live in Google Play now, new additions:
    • Save or Share a single video from a motion photo image
    • Bulk save multiple videos from a selection of motion photo images (just multi-select images and share over to the app)
