ok, I tried this again tonight. I downloaded the file in the first link, re-installed the pda-net drivers, when I got to the point where it reboot my phone, (i'm assuming into recovery) without pressing any buttons it would continue and then came up with a msg that adb.exe is not a recognized internal or external command. Did I do something wrong or did I download the wrong file?
Thanks

I just realized that I no longer have the "old school tv" effect when I lock my phone. All I did not install any ROM or anything like that, just unlocked and recovery. Is anyone else experiencing the same? I really liked that effect too.

To get the recovery to stick, rename /etc/install-recovery.sh to install-recovery.sh.bak. Then reflash the recovery using fastboot or ROM Manager. The stock rom uses this file to restore the stock recovery when you boot normally. (Personally, I kind of like this option. My old LG Axis still has a broken recovery, with no way to fix it. If I'm right, it also makes it stupidly simple to unroot & restore to stock.)

You know what, you make a good point. I will leave as is. All I wanted root for is to block and get rid of those darn ads all over the apps.

thanks

Has anyone tried to use this script on a Mac with Parallels or VM Fusion?
This script, no. Other things, yes. It didn't work out very well for me when I tried. I don't know why it was happening or not happening but if I had to guess, it would be that the process of unlocking and rooting and adb was making the phone connect and disconnect to many times in a short amount of time. I found that just making a partition on my drive and installing xp and not letting it get out on the net. I never had problems with any phones doing it that way.
