This is a nice app; it's good to have access to the OpenMaps data base on my mobile but... google maps has basic several functions this is missing:
  • Search Function
  • Favorites
  • Directions

Sorry to whinge but...

Those features are coming soon. The first one I'll implement is a search function in v1.1...so stay tuned! ;)

Sorry if it's a dumb question... which format should I choose to save the maps if I download them on my PC from open street map website?

the format should be an exact mirror of the tiles folders on openstreetmap servers.
see: http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Slippy_map_tilenames#Tiles

working good on my Opal.

thanks Cipher! :)

a SEARCH for places would be a cool addition though. ;)

btw: what does "No Fix" mean?

"No Fix" means, that the GPS device is either not available or has no connection to any satellites at the moment.

Doesn't work on HTC Imagio

I tried installing it on my Imagio but when I get to the part where it asks for my storage card location it just basically freezes. I can't select anything within the app and I end up having to use the hang-up button to exit. I'll check back for updates.

Ditto. I've got a HTC Touch Pro 2 (Rhodium) and as soon as I get to the select memory card location screen it hangs, forcing me to soft reset. Argh.

What Windows Mobile version do you use?

Very nice Application.

What would be nice, as there is not much text in the application to add multi Language support. If you need help with (german) translation you can write me a pm =)

Also if you could add a Start Menu Icon of size: 45x45 (Omnia - Win 6.5) That would be great =):D

LOL, look at his signature... He's german ;)

Anyway. Nice project. But two things I'm missing:

* Zoomlevel
* An option to choose the GPS driver

I would love to tryout this app, but it seems to be incompatible with WVGA device like Touch Pro 2.

Currently, I'm collecting your feedback for the next release. So thank you all for testing!

What exactly do you mean with "Zoomlevel"?
The GPS driver is set within Windows Mobile settings for GPS devices. So, if you want OMM to use a different GPS device, then change your settings in Windows Mobile to which GPS device it should manage.

I will try to investigate this behaviour...and get back to you as soon as I know what the problem is.

Have a quick look at this picture. Just like this one:

With changing the driver, I ment changing the used COM-Port. I'm using the GPSDriverModFix which uses a different COM-Port.

Yes.

I will consider the Zoom levels. It was on my todo-list anyway but I dropped for now - or better: it got low priority. ;) But i will catch up on that!

The COM-Port thing is a different area. Before releasing it to the public I wrote my own dll to access the serialport. Then I found the Microsoft SDK for using GPSID and I completely dropped the serialport routines.
I don't think that I will re-implement them, soon, because I wasn't quite happy with the stability of the serialport stuff in .NET CF. Therefore GPSID (after a few tweaks) works like a charm for me.

I am trying to get this to work on the USCC TP2 with WM 6.5 and everytime I start up the app, it freezes. I first installed in on the storage card and it would freeze on the screen to select where the storage card is located. then I tried to install it in main memory and now it freezes on the main splash screen. I have the OEM ROM on.

    --- NEWSFLASH ---

A development blog for OpenMobileMaps is located here: HERE!

I wrote an application similar to GoogleMaps but it's relying on OpenStreetMap.org.
It's finger friendly and showing the map on fullscreen.

GPS support and GSM triangulation (if no GPS device is present) is built in.

The downloaded map tiles are stored on your phone/storage and only new ones are downloaded.

It's tested and working with all possible resolutions, with internal GPS and external GPS. And it should work on all Windows Mobile devices with .NET CF 3.5 installed.

Tell me what you think of it and please find some bugs!

If you like OpenMobileMaps and appreciate the hard work and time I spent on developing it then don't hesitate to DONATE!
Any amount of money keeps me motivated to further develop OpenMobileMaps!

To all HD2 and HD mini owners: have fun with multitouch pinch-to-zoom!

To all others: bookmarks and lots of improvements await you!
    2
    Long time no see.

DynDNS is shutting down free domain services and omm.mine.nu got a victim of it. This is why I had to release a hotfix version of OpenMobileMaps with a new webservice URL.

I also included the extended maps.xml in this version. But it will be only generated on a fresh install (if no maps.xml exists).

Have fun and thank you for all this support over the last years! This is a great community!
    1
    Thanks for the reply
I tried it and it works great
I wonder if it exists in Spanish?
how it works with GSM or GPRS, I have no GPS

currently, there is no spanish translation. but, if you want to, you could make one. this way you don't need to donate anything to get a registered version.

Very interesting. Are the screenshots updated? :)

Now, the screenshots in the first post are updated and here are some more which didn't fit into the first post... ;)
