The only thing stopping me from using this over HTC Notes is that their is no Audio Recording. It's a HUGGGEEE no-no from me, i like to record the lecture while taking down notes. To me it seems like it should be a relatively simple integration.
I use my Thinkpad for some classroom notes and wish I had it in engineering school. It would have been great.

I am in law school now, at least in the state I am in (Illinois) it is against the law to record a class unless every person in the room gives their permission. It is weird.

Grad Engineering student here and i'm on the HTC Flyer, been using HTC Notes for all of last semester and it has been lacking some key features for me.

I heard all the big hype of Quill and just tried V8.3

The only thing stopping me from using this over HTC Notes is that their is no Audio Recording. It's a HUGGGEEE no-no from me, i like to record the lecture while taking down notes. To me it seems like it should be a relatively simple integration.

The other thing stopping me, although not as big, is the fact that the erase button on the HTC pen is not functional. It's so much easier to click the little button to erase rather than having to tap on a new area on the screen. Again, seems like a relatively small change

If these changes can be made I think your software will clearly have the dominate upper hand compared to any other software out there - yes including HTC's as well.

PLEASE PLEASE try to integrate these as soon as possible :) thanks
I would also like to echo this - it would be great to use the integrated erase button on the pen.

Hey everyone,

First of all thank you for this amazing app Volker! I just have one request, would it be possible to make a "lasso-mode" ? So you can rearrange your written stuff at a time instead of erasing and then new writing.

Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
This is the only feature I'm really looking for. The ability to rearrange notes was in Microsoft Journal and/or OneNote and is wht makes digital note taking so appealing to me. I don't know how feasible it is to implement, but I wanted to add my name to the hat of people requesting this feature.

Same here, this is a very important feature! Also inserting space is very useful. Please take a look at how e.g. Windows Journal does it.

Convert Quill to Text

Hi,

This actually works well on my Galaxy Tab runninb 3.1

But what would make this REALLY useful is an "export to text" function so I can search through the notes. Does anyone have any ideas or know of apps that can take the Quill output and convert to text? I have Evernote but I can't see this function.

Thanks for any help,

Jim.

If you saved it to PDF, and uploaded it to a computer, I'm sure any number of OCR programs could do the job for you. Of course its one more step of work, but its an option.

On a side note, I need to thank the App developers for such an inredible app - by far the best/most accurate I have used, and I went through like 15 diffent apps trying to find something serviceable. Thanks, and keep up the good work!

I believe the Evernote option requires you to upload the note to the Evernote cloud because that's where the OCR magic occurs.

One feature that will definitely help maximize the utility of this app is if you can add the option of adding the whole notebook as a raster image (png) under export.
The raster image export to HTC notes app is awesome and that ways we can still have the notes app run in the background and record the meeting/lecture and add the raster image to the note.

Also, you should add another layer... Meaning that in a notebook, rather than having pages, you should try to have notes, and each note have pages. You can do this easily by renaming notebook as notes, and adding a notebook feature that can have multiple notes. This particular feature will make this the best app for a school/college student.

For example, my notebook can be called "Anatomy"
In Anatomy, I can have notes like "chapter 1, arteries"
In that 'chapter 1, arteries' note I can have multiple pages of writings.

Hope you implement these features, as this is a class app and has the potential to be an app that may be an absolute Necessity for every n-trig enabled tablet.
Keep up the great work, I really appreciate your time and effort!

Thank you

I've, well, checked out the competition. Considering PhatPad, FreeNote, Infinite Design, and the pioneer of vector in Android, MaplePaint, and where it looks to me like they're headed, I would like to see in Quill a preservation of it's speed and cleanness and a sole purpose of great handwritten vector notes. The other apps are trying to pack too much in and they already feel clunky, and not entirely class-notes effective. If you can keep it (and me) keeping up with a fast-talking multi-doctorate, you've got a long-standing winner IMHO.

A few export, sync and share options would be welcome, like perhaps Dropbox, Box, a simple all-data SD (wherever) backup would be wise, too. Easily converted & otherwise edited png format would be welcome to people who aren't familiar with and/or don't need pdf markup. I have to agree, some options like png or even jpg export might not slow the notes-taking part of the app down, but would add some flexibility like sharing via MMS, Facebook, or whatever else kids are using these days.

I think a seperate app, or perhaps an add-on for pdf markup, or better yet, importing, is a really great idea. I imagine lots of folk would like to keep their markups organized with their notes and use one app. qPDF is the only real markup tool I've found so far. I have no idea how the whole copyright thing would (wouldn't) work; some of development is entirely *too* social. It strikes me as an elephant of a project, but worth pursuing in the long-term.

Pen nibs are fun, and I think a few would be helpful, but there will be other apps that are for calligraphy and drawing with tons of them, and they will have too many choices while I'm taking notes. slowing me and the app down. But in congruence with the title of the app, a brush/nib customizer app to export nibs into Quill, still keeping a limited (customizeable?) number of them for choosing from. I just love how clean, fast and elegant Quill is to use, and that's really, IMHO, what sets it apart.

Also, if I can put in an actual, doable feature request, I'd love some five-line staff paper background. It would certainly be unique in the Market right now, and there are PC/iOS programs that can deal with the PDF for OCR/playback. The music writing apps out there right now, well... there's a reason I'm asking.

OK. This sounds really slobbery-dog obnoxious now that I've read it. Sorry. I love this app. I was, and am so excited to see something that does what it does, and what I need so well.

I seem to be experiencing some kind of weird lag issue, possibly related to palm rejection. When part of my hand is resting on the screen while I write, sometimes the beginnings of my pen strokes don't register. This seems to only happen when my hand is resting on the screen, and it happens most often immediately following my touching of the screen. I.e., I'm writing along fine with only the pen touching the screen, then as soon as a part of my hand comes in contact with the screen I lose the beginning of my next stroke.

Details:
Thinkpad Tablet
Pen input mode: filter out touch events when writing
Left-handed navigation

Gave the title a download last night, for my Asus Transformer TF-101. Great app and works well with a capacitive pen.

I'm a field engineer and need to make sketches and take notes while out and about. I'm a little tired of bringing around a slew of engineering-pad paper, and trying to keep track of it when I get back to the office. I've tried using Autodesk's Sketchbook Mobile, but it's slow as dog meat and really doesn't make life in the field any easier. This application is much more responsive.

The only niggles I have are that I rotate my tab a lot while trying to make my sketches. I wish there was a way where I could lock the orientation of the paper workspace, but have the on-screen tools rotate. Also, I'd love to have the double-tap to zoom feature active on non-active-stylus tabs. A straight-line feature would be terrific as well, but only because my shaky hands can't to that alone (I use a straight-edge on paper right now).

Thanks for the great app, totally worth a buck.

@nominalvalue

This seems to be a TPT problem which lenovo did not fix yet (since >3Months)
I have the same on mine.

edit: I think its the palm rejection which is not working

Top of the line app.

Using this on my Transformer, HC3.2. Picked up a stylus with the conductive cloth. The fountain pen is great, looks better than the plain old line. Great support from developer also.

5 stars all the way around.

I have exactly the same problem.

EDIT: I'm also sure it's a hardware issue. Typical for N-Trig.

speed

Hey everyone...I was just wondering about speed? I watched the main video on youtube and the person is writing at a fairly moderate speed. I can see a delay between their movement and the actual writing on the screen. I write really fast and I was wondering if anyone who has tried this does also and what results are for you? I am in the process of trying to choose between the digital paper Bamboo style pens or something like this. I'd rather something like this to reduce what I have to carry but if I will not be able to go at my natural speed, I'm not sure...

Any insights you can share with me would be greatly appreciated :)

I like Quill largely because it's the fastest I've found. I don't notice too much waiting nor going back to fix what it missed. Your setup may be different from mine, though. If you really want to know, you have to try it.
