I've, well, checked out the competition. Considering PhatPad, FreeNote, Infinite Design, and the pioneer of vector in Android, MaplePaint, and where it looks to me like they're headed, I would like to see in Quill a preservation of it's speed and cleanness and a sole purpose of great handwritten vector notes. The other apps are trying to pack too much in and they already feel clunky, and not entirely class-notes effective. If you can keep it (and me) keeping up with a fast-talking multi-doctorate, you've got a long-standing winner IMHO.
A few export, sync and share options would be welcome, like perhaps Dropbox, Box, a simple all-data SD (wherever) backup would be wise, too. Easily converted & otherwise edited png format would be welcome to people who aren't familiar with and/or don't need pdf markup. I have to agree, some options like png or even jpg export might not slow the notes-taking part of the app down, but would add some flexibility like sharing via MMS, Facebook, or whatever else kids are using these days.
I think a seperate app, or perhaps an add-on for pdf markup, or better yet, importing, is a really great idea. I imagine lots of folk would like to keep their markups organized with their notes and use one app. qPDF is the only real markup tool I've found so far. I have no idea how the whole copyright thing would (wouldn't) work; some of development is entirely *too* social. It strikes me as an elephant of a project, but worth pursuing in the long-term.
Pen nibs are fun, and I think a few would be helpful, but there will be other apps that are for calligraphy and drawing with tons of them, and they will have too many choices while I'm taking notes. slowing me and the app down. But in congruence with the title of the app, a brush/nib customizer app to export nibs into Quill, still keeping a limited (customizeable?) number of them for choosing from. I just love how clean, fast and elegant Quill is to use, and that's really, IMHO, what sets it apart.
Also, if I can put in an actual, doable feature request, I'd love some
five-line staff paper background. It would certainly be unique in the Market right now, and there are PC/iOS programs that can deal with the PDF for OCR/playback. The music writing apps out there right now, well... there's a reason I'm asking.
OK. This sounds really slobbery-dog obnoxious now that I've read it. Sorry. I love this app. I was, and am so excited to see something that does what it does, and what I need so well.
