[APP]Root My Ouya (root without PC) (8/11/2013)

Sorry for being OT.
Besides the OUYA, I have the Mad Catz M.O.J.O since yesterday. Unfortunately there in no root possible at this time.
The device has a Tegra 4 and runs Android 4.2.2.
So, my thoughts are to try this app to get root access.
Unfortunately the app aborts while installing. So my question is how to make an install possible and might the exploit work on the device ?

Sideloaded the Bluebox Security Scanner and it says:

So I guess, this app wouldn't work anyway ?

Ouya already provides a local root, which is the only real reason this works.

About to buy ATV3 for the iPad Air i am about to buy to for my kid ( just because of all the apps..)

Anyway OUYA seems so much better except the limitation of apps.

I am glad to find out that it is possible to root, BUT is it possible to root on the latest firmware version?

Someone wrote that after Christmas the firmware will brake the root.

mine stays rooted in all firmwares...the latest is the Dec 17,2013 and im still rooted...Who ever said that the newest firmware brakes root is full of it...

If all else fails, you can perform root on the latest 12/18 Abominable Snowman firmware anyway.

This apk is for 4.1 or higher version, I have a Andriod 4.0.3 smart tv box, the usb adb service and adb connect has been blocaked, can you please do me a favor to provide a apk for ICS ? many thanks!!!

How did you get ICS on your Ouya? Since you're posting on an Ouya board, I'm assuming that you somehow managed to do that... else it would really not make a ton of sense posting here, right?

I tried installing Eternity Rom then it forced me to OTA... Come to later find out it wiped out my CWM Recovery and now I'm back at normal recovery and after the successful OTA Root My Ouya.apk won't successfully install either. What can I do?

I won't lie to you. As soon i rooted the Ouya and I was able to install Aptoide and PlayStore I didn't did anything more as changing Roms or stuff like that. I'm happy using the Ouya as it is with the extras. XBMC runs fine and Netflix and Hulu and Vudu and you name it! this is a little device that once rooted is a powerful console.

Try to reset it to factory settings as new and start all over again, it won't locked to you if reset to factory settings. good luck.

Yea that worked only annoying thing about Play Store is I can't sign in on the same account the Ouya is registered to, gotta create a new account and sign in on it, if it'll let me.

GP Nags at me and says this/that user is already registered on this account/device. Something like that then takes me back to the New or Existing user page. I don't see why we can't conjoin the two.

I really don't think you can. Remember you are using the Ouya to get the extras. If you are trying with other rom then try looking for a forum that support that rom to see if you have more luck with it.

This has happened to me where i sign into my google account on my OUYA and i got the Already registered BS and brings me back to the sign in so right there and then all i do is double press the middle " U" button on the controller and exit the play store, then i go into MAKE and open the google play store and WOLA i'm in signed in and all, i've sat there entering my google account info over and over and over again bringing me back to sign in till i figured out that all i had to do since i had already signed in was to exit by double pressing the middle "U" button go to MAKE and open the google play store and it was working and i can say that it happened to me again last week again when i wiped my OUYA clean and installed the play store and i has happened every time i wiped my OUYA clean...You can try my suggestion, it wont hurt to try...

For some reason the one I downloaded and installed from a youtube tute didn't give me the Mod_PS4Ouya.apk (Xposed Module) I dropboxed that apk from ps4ouya_script.zip and manually installed it then enabled it rebooted and it's working fine now, no annoying fc's about Play Store or Services on fresh boot anymore either.

That's cool! I also found another youtube video explaining what to do. In fact I did this one too just for curiosity and it work perfectly! so go ahead! now i was wondering if anyone here knows how to install flash player as a video player on the ouya… but that's another story.

I have used this method with every update with no problem. I've seen a couple people that it didn't work for but all it did is not work. It didn't cause any bad side effects trying it.
