The solution is u need turn on debugging on Network debugging / USB Debugging

How to enabled developer options in shield:
1. Open Settings> About > Build (tap 7 times)
2. Go back to Settings menu and now you'll be able to see 'Developer options' there (beside 'Accessibility')
3. Go to Debugging > and turn on Network debugging and/ USB Debugging from the menu on the next screen.

Great app. But I am unable to change the splashscreen (Kodi 17 testbuilds). Anyone else got that feature to work?

I haven't had any issues changing it using the kodi on Google Play. Make sure the utility is working by saving a screenshot or something similar. If it is working, then the splash screen might be in a different directory or named differently.

I believe you can. I tried it with my M8s box but haven't yet with the Shield. Use ES file Explorer, go to network and add android tv and add the Shield. Now i believe you have to have the app installed. There will be a section on ES File titles "APP" go to that find your app and long press it. One of your options will be install to phone or install to Android tv. Choose TV and it installs.

I agree with @MALOW. It would be nice to be able to sideload direct from a phone or tablet. There is a apps2fire on Google play that allows you to do that to the Amazon Fire.

In ES File Explorer I select the file I want to send to my shield tv and in the menu select "Send" then select the shield tv. You must have ES open on the shield tv. A prompt will pop up on the shield tv asking where to save the file. Very simple.

Yes friend but here we are talking about installing directly by sideload from your mobile.

Getting this error when i try to connect. There's no confirmation dialog on my shield. ADB over USB and ADB over Network is enabled.

You have to access adb wired first to get the pop-up.

Yep I have the same problem, never ending AdFly Loop with all sorts of fake download buttons, I never get to the actual file.

Not sure if restoring SPMC data is working right. I select SPMC as my flavor. For backup and restore there is no status from the application of what it is doing that I can see. I can backup the data.

With backup I can see it create a folder "SPMC_Backup" and I see it growing in size as it works. I can tell it is done when the folder doesn't grow in size anymore. If I click on restore I can't tell if it is doing anything. Even with SPMC set as the flavor the application shows a text label that the backup/restore files are in C:\NSTV\Kodi_Backup. So I also copied the "file" folder for my backup to this folder and tried that as well. I left it for a long time. Backup is only about 45 MB. I even tried viewing with wireshark but I still can't tell as there is other traffic to this device even before starting the restore.
