,No it's more tricky with Samsung apps. If you want for example 320 dpi for Contacts app then first you need a contacts app of 320 dpi and then you can change density from this app, just changing phones dpi won't do it. You can find some of these apps in another thread called Multi-DPI Samsung apps. Check op for the link.
You can also try to pull apps from another phones like gs3 or note which have different dpi but I'm not sure about their compatibility with 4.2.2 roms.

Nice, thanks for share.,
I have installed Xposed per app DPI and change dpi to 380 (320 is too small) and did following things
1) Change DPI of Contacts, Touchwiz Home, Calculator SHealth, Camera (only for com.sec.Android.Camera), SPlaner Widget, Breefing and Task Manager to 480 DPI and 75% for font scaling. everything works just awesome and looks perfect.
2) Patched Google Play for compatibility.
Can you please tell me how to fix Play Store compatibility issue?,

I've always wanted to do that when I had Galaxy Note but unfortunately you can't just change the notification bar without messing screen layout. You have to change whole system ui if you don't want any gaps. By the way you can change system ui to 380 or 400 and change any other apps back to 480 including stock apps.I changed the dpi for systemui to 360 and 400 for testing (I didn't like the big stock notifications)
Now I have a smaller notification panel, but there's a gap between it and any app that I launch:

I tried setting the same DPI to "android system" but it scales the whole system and I need just the notification bar to be scaled
Does anyone have a tip of which other app I need to change the DPI to remove that gap? (or if it is even possible)

I am sorry but you can't change to tablet ui of system apps just by changing dpi. System apps require modified apks.I have this module installed on my stock, rooted, Verizon S4 (ran into random reboots on Hyperdrive rom, so went back to stock). It works fine, but I can't get the Tablet UI to trigger on any app. Please help.
I've tried DPIs down to 240, and various screen DPIs, including 800x1280 as recommended by the OP. I've tried with the "xlarge res" box on or off. Everything gets appropriately smaller to reflect the new DPI settings, but I never get two-column tablet layouts in anything. My two target apps are the built-in Samsung email app and Reddit News, both of which do a tablet layout on my Galaxy Tab 10.1.
Am I missing something?
EDIT: I've tried DPIs down to 160 now, since some sites seem to think that (or 172) are the magic numbers for tablet UI, but still no change except the scale of everything. Seems like there must be some switch or setting to let the app know that tablet UI is appropriate, but DPI alone isn't doing it, at least not for me.
Hey, thanks for your reply. The Reddit News app is the exact same app on both devices. Does it somehow determine whether it's on a tablet when it's installed and encode that information in the apk? Otherwise I'm just transferring the same apk from my tablet to the phone. I was under the impression that most apps like Reddit News, email apps, etc., which have a separate tablet mode, use the same apk for both and just read some flag about dpi or device size to determine whether to use the tablet layout.I am sorry but you can't change to tablet ui of system apps just by changing dpi. As for Reddit or any other non-stock app just extract apk from your tab and install it in your S4, change the dpi and it should work fine.
In most of the apps, UI can be changed simply by changing dpi however some apps uses different apk for different UI to give optimum performance for each device. If you download such apps from Play Store then it would download apk depending on resolution which is best suitable for your phone or tab. That means same app has different apk for your tab and your phone. So just try to extract apk from your tab and install it on your phone. Don't forget to change dpi afterwards. Let me know if it doesn't work.Hey, thanks for your reply. The Reddit News app is the exact same app on both devices. Interesting, okay, I'll try it. But does this mean that if I uninstalled and re-downloaded the app at the tablet DPI level, that it would download the tablet UI from the Play store? I will try that as well. Thanks again. In most of the apps, UI can be changed simply by changing dpi however some apps uses different apk for different UI to give optimum performance for each device.
