I have v3.8 installed on my s8. Pretty much everything works... portrait mode, slow mo etc.

in my case it's opposite. GCAM image is always way bigger that stock!
For those who are struggling to make the mod work on Android Pie One UI, please follow the steps and settings.
Download latest test mod from IDan from the following page. Then select under Essentials "Latest Gcam Exynos". Before install that uninstall your existing mod and run the device care to optimize 100%.
After that setup the settings as below in attached screenshots. I primarily use this for portraits and selfie portraits. For everything else I use Samsung stock camera. So your mileage may vary for the shots you take.
Also if you want to use Google Photos, use the option camera.use_photos in developer options. I prefer the inbuilt image viewer as it is faster for viewing the images or deleting the unwanted pics I have captured.
Note: You can experiment with all the camera settings except the options in Developer Settings. Please do not alter any settings as they might result in force close or cause stability issues. I have an S8+ 855F model. So most of the settings should work with 850F models. But I am not so sure about Note 8 as it has a different camera module.

Just to make sure, Idan made v4.7 for test but deleted it, last one stable is 4.6, and we actually are waiting for danegosight: "Its nightsight feature that idan built in gcam5.1 and i tuned it and it actually works better than pixel 3's nightsight(idan have pixel 3 and tested it) So basically s7/s8/n8 has better camera quality than pixel 3" - quoting Egoist
Even if this is for Exynos, it is still good for Snapdragon Android Pie?

I don't know if the night option work like nightsight but give it a try.
