Right I didnt know if I should make a new thread or just ask here seeong as its about best apps. We shall see.

I used to have an xda mini s back in the day and that had a ir port. It had many apps available which allowed me to point a remote (tv) directly at the ir port and record the code then send it later. Allowing me to change the tv channel ect..

Now I know there is an app called watchon which allows to send predefined codes but tbh it kinda sucks and doesn't allow custom commands .

Is there any free/cheap apps to do this with / and define multiple controllers ?

I know about touchsquid but thats over 30 quid which in my opinion is way to pricey for such a simple app.

S4 widgets

Hi! Can you please suggest some smooth contact direct call and camera photo view widgets that would suite the best for S4? I am new to android and most of the widgets i found are too small or designed for older devices... Regards, Stepanooo

Does anyone have any tips on a system wide volume booster and equaliser? Preferably one that can be used with headphones. I bought Volume+ a long time ago but that doesn't work now. I've been using Spotify a lot recently and the S4 seems far quieter than any previous phones I've had. Thanks, guys.

No offence meant to OP, but all of these are so popular that almost everyone knows about them. There wasn't a single app I hadn't heard of, beforehand.

All that proves is that you've seen them all, not that "almost everyone" knows about them. I've been using and rooting Android phones since Froyo came out and there were a number of apps on this list that I hadn't heard of and, in all likelihood, will start using frequently from now on (e.g. Appygeek, Digical, Greenify). This list would be priceless to newbies. It also serves as a starting point for discussion so that others can make constructive contributions to fellow XDA members' knowledge. Thanks for taking the time to compile and post them OP.

My 2c

Kii keyboard. Nice medium between Swype and Swiftkey. Very customisable, accurate, and works well on GS4 and tablets

Network monitor mini pro – leaves a discrete display on your screen (always on or customisable for different apps/contexts) that displays network up and down speeds. Great for tracking if you are leaking data or if a download is finished while you are using another app

Easy uninstaller – Lets you do batch uninstalls. Great if you like experimenting with apps, get a build up, and then feel the need to prune every now and again.

Yeah, this app is nice and I really like it since it is a very fast way to uninstall a lot of apps one after another... Select the ones you want to uninstall and then hit the button to uninstall...

While the list is handy, and the OP did quite some effort to gather everything in... my very wild guess is that not everything there is a must. There are apps not really needed. And, from my personal experience, the phone producers have the tendency to 'copy' features of well known applications. At the moment there are a lot of applications I paid for in the past and I don't need now, as the default apps are doing all the job.
