Went through your list after updating my S3 to 4.3 .

The phone seems a lot snappier now, big thanks for this !!!

(I had followed the suggestions of a previous list, but this one has a lot on it I hadn't yet thrown out.)

Glad that was helpful for you! My list was for prior to 4.3, so it's likely not 100% accurate. Can't really verify that, I'm afraid, as I used this pre-rooted stock ROM to install 4.3 on my phone, and it already had a great deal of stuff stripped out.

Edit: I'm a derp, thought I was replying to someone who was looking at the Verizon S3 list I had compiled.

There were indeed a couple of apps that showed a later version number, just by a couple of steps (like 1.8 vs 1.4, I can't remember an exact instance.) I thought I could throw them out - uh, actually I've only *frozen* the apps so far and already seen much improvement. As I'm still on warranty, I'd rather not root my phone just now, but I'll come back to that in due time ;)

Wow, thanks! Makes for interesting reading.

Of course, I live in Switzerland, a country that is holding ever ongoing "bilaterlal" negociations with the EU; in this case, Swiss law, if decent, garantees the "consumer" quite a bit less prerogatives than EU consumers enjoy, and it's anything but clear if rooting your phone and/or flashing it with a new mod could be considered as something that was or wasn't an acceptable action to undertake.

if you're curious: search on "englishforum.ch" for the article "2year-warranty-eu-directive-1999-44-ec-switzerland-iphone" (I just discovered I haven't posted here 10 times yet, so I can't give you the actual link...)

the most revealing passage saying:

"(There was a) parliamentary initiative in 1999, which suggested that Switzerland adopts a similar consumer protection law (to the EU's). Well, Switzerland did not."

Once more, thanks for pointing to that link!

That is interesting. It's quite the opposite here in the US, from my understanding. Cell phone service providers dictate what gets to be on a phone, and the consumer just has to suck it up and deal with it, or void their warranty to do what THEY want with THEIR phone. I'm dropping Verizon to go with T-Mobile and a Nexus 5, but that means I have to give up my Galaxy S3, so I won't be of much use in this thread any longer. (Assuming I ever was! :p )

Just wanted to show my appreciation for a "ye-olde" thread. I have referred to this list once I've obtained root on my ATT GS3 on JB1, NE4 and now NJ1.

I'm one that believes that REMOVAL is a step above freezing re: Samsung and ATT system apps...this list has served as a pretty good guideline throughout the years. I mostly run rooted stock. I always take a nandroid backup immediately post root, post root with root enabled apps and customizations installed and then one more with ALL the above plus post sys app removal. Saves ALOT of heartache.

Thx again! :good:
