Are there any deal breakers in this gorgeous device?

As a Wear OS user (Polar M600) i can absolutely CONFIRM what Koliosis is saying and this is not just limited to Samsung Watches.

That said, my watch has been fine now for 2 days and, even after a reboot, the same apps are still auto-run and remain locked. I actually like this solution now BUT, why the FRACK have they restricted it to only 5 apps!?

Anyway, as an example, my locked and running fine apps are:
Wear OS
The Crypto App (so it's widget runs OK - take note, to run a widget, the PARENT app needs to be locked sometimes)
WhatsApp
Gmail
Google Calendar (again, for it's widget)

Now, for me, this is perfectly OK and I have no need to even want to lock other apps (like Facebook) as i'm not interested however, you need to assess YOUR needs which may be more apps.

edit: Oh, oddly, i've got the Sony Experia clock widget installed and that runs perfectly even without being locked and I've no idea why!

Also, I've got the red and it looks stunning. Easily the best looking phone i've ever owned. You'll be happy with the physical design.
Guess I can live with the app restriction. Btw you saw jerryrigeverything's bend test of this device? Failed test doesn't necessarily mean the device is crap (I've had Nexus 6p and Mi 5. Both failed his bend test but they were excellent phones). Gotta take extra care of Find X I suppose.

The amount of hate this device gets is ridiculous. btw Flipkart changed the tentative delivery date from 5th to 6th of August.
All I remember is the Flipkart marketing head said the pre-orders are going to get delivered a day before the availability in the offline store and 4 being a Sunday the chances of delivery were already slim, so it has to be the 5th, let's hope for the best :highfive:

Realistically it's a bad idea to sit on any phone; I say this thinking of one that would supposedly in no way bend but I proved could most definitely break when it turns out my bony buttocks and a park bench were more than it could bear. Sitting on your phone is a bad idea, don't sit on them they dont bend and what's more your bony buttocks wont break them on a hot day when you flop on a park bench in the shade. Call it an added bonus. :)

About this phone and a few haters...

Lets start with bending. Lots and lots of phones could be bent before Apple made the problem famous but you have to backtrack a little and give it some perspective to see it in an objective light. Everyone has always known you shouldn't sit on a small slim expensive thing which can be easily broken irregardless of whether or not it could be bent. Before Apple and their bendgate this was just considered common sense, now it's become a test phones are judged by yet the test itself is a failure to recognize a fundamental reality which is that phones are relatively fragile devices and you shouldn't sit on them. Relatively fragile being a description which can be applied to every modern large screen phone made up to this date. It may be that future developments change this but for now it remains the truth within which we and the devices have to live.

Thickness. Mrs Crab likes her iphone. I dont beat her up for this for several reasons. First of all I like to see her naked from time to time. Secondly I don't really dislike Apple; I don't use them because their products are an answer to a question I never asked. They can be great devices for people like Mrs Crab though, she just wants to send messages, get her emails, and make phone calls. For her it's a great product in that it does what she wants and she never has to think about anything. She also like the packaging. Give Apple credit, they make a device that looks and feels premium, and whats more, to the unwashed masses, seems modern. Part of that is how thin thin they are, it says high tech to a lot of people. Mrs Crab is one of them. She loves how thin her phone is which brings me to my point: She has it in a case because she dropped it a number of times, it's so thin she finds it easily slips through her grasp yet she still brags about how thin it is despite the fact it's in a case and very much the same thickness as my phone which is also in a case. Thickness really isn't an issue any more other than some phones have become so thin you end up putting them in a case just to thicken them up and make them easier to hold. A rhetorical questions come to mind: Wouldn't it be better to have more battery making the phone thicker instead of putting a case on it for that purpose? However you answer that I personally feel that phones have become too thin because the ergos are going out the window in the name of style and costing real capability in the process. To me that's a step backwards.

The last big diss on this phone is the question of reliability with the lift mechanism. It really is a good point for normal people but we're not normal. Lets face it, we're XDA'ers, the type that would actually consider importing a phone from overseas. We aren't going to have this phone three year from now, many of us wont have this phone a year from now. We don't need to worry about reliability, we need to worry about why we keep buying all these phones when the one we have is working fine.

I was waiting to buy the upcoming iPhone (Blasphemy!) but I just love how unique Find X is. It is going to be up for pre-order next week and I need some advice from you users.

- How durable is that 'mechanism'?
- Are you guys able to replace the stock launcher with something like Nova or Ruthless launcher with google now feed?
- Does the surface of the retracting mechanism get covered with dust over time?
- Have any other serious complaints about the phone in general?

Thanks in advance. Will really appreciate your input. Cheers!
I bought this phone purely due to the design, camera pop up and unfortunately wasn't aware of all the restrictions on the Chinese version. Mainly notifications and unable to change default launcher.

Also another thing of noticed the beautiful back picksup marks scratches very very easily, bit like the jet black iPhone 7 plus. I've noticed the marks on the back.
I personally wouldn't recommend this phone to anyone at all if the above is important.
It's muzzled badly and will never fully appreciate the phones potential due to oppo stupid policy. I would however recommend waiting for the global version or await when flashable global ROM is available. Unless you can live with the restrictions.

Fantastic fantastic phone let down severally by restrictions.

1) Stock Android provides for incoming notifications to be seamless (automatic by default, individual 3rd party app settings may be different by default, but, can be easily toggled on). Oppo has severe restrictions on this, limiting to 5 user installed apps to start automatically on boot & 5 apps total to be locked in recent memory.

So, a high horsepower phone is basically muzzled, if you can deal with the angst of wondering if you're going to get timely notifications...... Perhaps if you use the stock email & messaging apps, these will likely work, but, I would steer clear of those....

2) No NFC, so, no tap to pay apps will work.

3) No VoLTE, no VoWI-FI

4) No status bar notification icons, no LED notification indicator.

5) If you use T-Mobile Digits & it isn't a top 5 protected app/one of your precious 5 to auto start on boot, it will log you out of the app on reboot & it will not work until you set it up again, resulting in missed messages & phone calls.

6) 3rd party clock apps: Again, if it's not a protected top 5 app, it will not keep proper time, resulting in missed alarms..... The stock clock works, but, it is a bare bones app at best, no snooze adjustment, locked into 5 minutes, SERIOUSLY?

7) Ad Blockers will work, but, intermittently, again, the top 5 protected app thing & even then, Oppo will kill it off at some point, resulting in having to restart the blocking.

8) If you choose to use a 3rd party launcher, you again lose some functionality. I use Chrome & frequently place shortcuts on my desktop from it.

NOT ON THIS PHONE, another swing & a miss....

9) Bluetooth devices:

Generally they work fine, but,if the device has a companion app, prepare for it (the app) to not work properly.

Example(s):

I have a pair of Jabra Elite Active 65t earbuds,pair-up & work fine, but, the companion app will not work,as it requires a plug-in app to fuel it. These various "plug-in" apps are typical & the companion apps work fine elsewhere, but, not on this phone.

Reason being, the "plug-in" app does not have a user interface,so,you cannot make the app a top 5 protected app to gain functionality,it simply won't work at all.

Ditto for smartwatches such as the Samsung line-up, for the same reason,no notifications, worked one day for me & broken the next, before & after the most recent Oppo update. That results in the Samsung smartwatch getting a lobotomy, only able to keep time & nothing more.

10) Package tracking apps:

Again, the top 5 protected thing,no timely updates & even then, mine simply did not refresh automatically, had to be done manually.

I could go on, but, in a nutshell, you're forced to make sacrifices as soon as you start using the phone. If this was a entry level/low storage/low RAM device, that's one thing.

But, it's not, basically a Lamborghini running on two cylinders, that's not what I paid for & why I sold mine 5 days after the most frustrating phone experience I've ever seen....

Jesus Christ what a mess!!!

Really unbelievable experience.

Thankfully after few days with Vivo Nex manage to resolve any issue had with number one notifications alert on time from various app.

Everything else working like a charm now no issues with status bar notifications,no issue with ad block as Adguard and after installation of Nova and get rid off Chinese bloatware via adb and via all app settings phone behaving like a typical western UI

Even with future update Vivo will change the registration formula for global customer so no needed having Chinese number as being told via communication with them(thankfully they are very helpful and friendly with quick response via Facebook messenger)

Bluetooth connection with my ZenWatch 3 working brilliantly as well my Bluetooth headset from Sony,LG and Liberty Zolo+.

Well Oppo should reconsider drastically and dramatically(Vivo too despite manage to resolve all issue had) their software implementation as it is today as people buying smartphones and not dumb-phone with all those dozens stupid restrictions.

What where they thinking when building those awful software

Both Oppo and Vivo should follow OnePlus strategy if want any kind success to western world.

As it is today they don’t have any luck with stupidity restrictions all over UI.

People when buying phones(smartphone not dumb phones)don’t want to deal with hours or days preparation and searching all over UI to find secret tips and deeply settings to make their phones to work as it should out of the box.

I was able to change the stock launcher for Ruthless launcher on ColorOS 5.0 (realme 1). But whenever I cleared the recent apps the, Google Now page on the homescreen gets killed only to come back after a few seconds. Hope it's at least the same, if not better in 5.1.

Got the device and I was able to change the default launcher. Changed the app settings to allow the custom launcher to run in the background and to auto start. The launcher stayed even after killing recent apps. Video linked below.

Wow how did you manage that??
That would be great if you could share that with the community.
Settings->App Management -> Default App Management -> Homescreen

Then in the app info page of the custom launcher :
- Enabled 'Allow Auto Startup'
-Choosing 'Allow Running In The Background' in the Power Saver option.

Though I believe this works only in the Indian ROM.

One weird thing is that whenever I long press the Play Store app icon in the dock to change it's location to the homescreen, the launcher reverts to the stock one. Got to see if this happens with other custom launchers as well.

I just got mine, so for me a lot of deal breakers,

Netflix I use a lot and It won't play Netflix in HD(720p or 1080p),

USB port is 2.0 speed,
vibration motor is cheap IMO its same as on Oneplus 6,
DLNA won't play movies on my TV.

Its my first day so I might find more issues. I was okay with no IP rating or stereo speakers, or SDcard,

a lot of Banking apps won't work for me.

can't change launcher

IIRC Linus was able to view HD content on Netflix with this device. And yeah you're right the vibration motor is quite bad. It's OPPO after all, always looking to cut costs wherever it's possible. Actually surprised that they used SD 845 instead of SD 600 series or Helio P60 SOC.

I can confirm Netflix isn't playing on full HD. I'm using find x global version (Indonesia)

Also, ColorOS only limits up to 5 non recommended apps to auto-start(whatsapp, instagram, facebook, are the recommended apps). That means we are not able to receive push messages from non recommended apps if it is not running.
