OK so I have an L710T running Oct-M. I've been using it on RingPlus. Can this GS3 be used on Straight Talk? Straight Talk appears to be using Sprint towers also now. I ran IMEI on ST's device checker and says its compatible.

I am thinking this is what I have to do after activating the phone with Straight Talk:
-ODIN back to stock
-Update PRL and Profile
-Flash back to Oct-M

Is that right?

Thanks

ok so it's been a while since I messed with my gs3, I have an old version of CM on it right now, I want to use it as a backup phone while I send my main phone in for repairs. If i recall correctly I can't simply switch to it on the sprint website, I have to have the stock rom on it and then do some kind of update that isn't available on a custom rom. Am I remembering that correctly? if so where do I start to get the stock rom on it so I can get it activated and then get something modern like lineagos on it? I have a unloacked bootloader/recovery on it. thanks for the help!

Any TouchWiz ROM will do. The activation part is pretty much all that is needed. Then you can switch to whatever ROM you want (I haven't had this device for a few years but I know that much). You can just make a backup before switching to TouchWiz and then restore the backup after activating if you want to keep it simple.

ok got my stock rom flahshed via odin and get my phone activated, so now I'm looking to go back to a custom rom, I see the twrp recovery in android development but is there an odin flashable twrp somewhere? I dont have root or a custom recovery so I would need to flash a custom recovery via odin before i can flash a custom rom right?

Yes. Go to https://twrp.me and go to your device and look for a download that ends in ".tar".

I Need a Updated as Current as Possible of True and proved Root Method

Hello Guys!,
I am a newbie on this Rooting Method even though I have been in the IT field for 22 yrs. and know My way around computer equipment and systems. I am also a new member here on XDA, and wow, what a great site all of you have created. I have actually Rooted my first phone which was a cheap ZTE N817, which i didnt care if i bricked it or what, It was a good one to experiment with, and with following a forum post which i cant remember now where i was, I was able to Root it with SuperSu and I used TWRP as the recovery. I have an old S3, witch i still use for now, but it seriously needs an updated version of Android because alot of the newer apps i use, crash or won't even load. I have no choice right now on getting a different phone with my carrier, which is junk too. (Qlink) Please I need a senior member to give me a tried and true Root using any good App, but I really wanna kinda stick with TWRP as my recovery because i am fimiliar with how it works and i know it's pretty good. Below I will list my info of my Sprint version of the S3 for any and Current Upgraded Root Method and possible a Tried and True ROM. I would really like a good Mashmallow Rom , if not the Lollipop 5.1 would work. Thanks soo much Guys i appreciate all the info and current links to what I need please!!

Easy. You need Odin and a PC. Use Odin to flash twrp. You can get a twrp tar from the official site. Then use twrp to flash anything you want (SuperSU, magisk, or a custom rom.) There are a few nougat ROMs out there. Lineage has ended support for the s3. Your device codename is D2Spr. So use that on twrp.me to find it.

You can get Odin in this thread. Don't use anything else in that thread, since all other files are outdated.

twrp

There are no more one click root apps, gotta do the work.

Download the twrp.tar for d2spr
Open Odin on PC
Boot phone to Odin mode , from powered off, hold power+volume down+ home button all at once. Once it boots to Odin mode and Odin is running on PC, plug in the phone to pc.
Wait till Odin says "added" in the box.
Click on AP in odin, then navigate to where to have the twrp.tar on your PC.
Make sure f.reset or auto reboot are not checked
Once it's loaded, click Start.
Wait till it's done. Don't let phone reboot
Unplug the phone, pull the battery
Put it back in.
Boot directly to twrp by (while still powered off) holding power + volume UP + home.
Make a backup of unrooted clean system and boot.
Now you can flash whatever root solution you like (SuperSU, magisk, etc.)
That's rooted stock.
Now you can flash a rom if you want.

Thanks so much Madbat for taking the time to reply with a good easy way to Root my lacking Sprint S3. The instructions are basically point on..but my phone and the buttons at first didn't want to do what I needed to do...It took a few times but finally got it all in and rooted..and figured out a few minor tricks on my phones fail. The button sequence works better if you first hold down the home..then the volume UP or Down depending what mode your going into..then press the power..as you feel the little vibration and you first get a glimpse of the Galaxy S logo screen..let off the power while you continue holding the other 2 until you actually see the bootloader appear. That I think held my first attempts as failures..and try it again..lol I really do appreciate it Madbat!
My next step would be a good solid ROM I would really like a 6.0 Mashmallow if possible. IF you know of a good one...please let me know.
Good night! Thanks!!

Marshmallow is hard to find these days. here is Exodus marshmallow. Those are pretty outdated though. Use any 6.x gapps you want. Nougat ROMs are a little easier to find. Octos is a good one.

Hello, I'm wondering if they made any advancement on the Samfail root method for the Note 8 AT&T version. I'm finding that I'm running into circumstances where I need to be able to flash a zip. This is still not possible, correct?

This is the sprint S3 thread. You may have more luck asking in your device's and carrier's forum.
