I recall that for some people, simply updating didn't fix the issue, they had to do clean install of the latest version. I think this is your only option now, might as well switch to A13. I have and apart from not being able to turn off LED while charging, I am not missing any important feature.
Clean install = wipe data in recovery, format data (if you are switching to different rom/android version due to encryption complexities) and then flash zip with rom. Format is not strictly necessary, but when doing clean install, you wipe everything anyways, so might as well. Just backup everything you need before proceeding.
No, because that's a problem with how these apps are made, not with the OS.

It's wise to make a backup of important data, but a dirty flash upgrade works 9/10 times.
