When I was checking out the firmware stock roms of my device, I have noticed that my model is almost 4x more in size than the other model, RMX3472 being 18gb while RMX3471 being 5gb. I see that it most firmware roms are usually 5gb,soo my question is, what causes my model rom to be so large in size?

My last Realme device (R7) had around 6.7 GB, only counting the super partition, so it's not really huge. Also, may I'm wrong but, they are probably, filled in blank, to match dynamical partitions.

I had a passing thought that I may need to get a tablet, so had a look of what was available in the local stores (through their web sites) and was a little shocked to see that all the tablets, as sold in store, were running Android 11, and not Android 13. I checked and it seemed that android 13 is supposedly available as an upgrade, but the tablets are sold with such an old version, and some of the cheaper brands i am sure are stuck on A11.

Is this a known thing to expect older Android on tablets? I’m spoilt having a pixel phone and it’s constant updates.

Your signature implies it’s a fairly new purchase. When you got it from the store, was it already on Android 13 or was it sold with an older Android and you did an OTA after you got it? If so, how low?

I do not need a tablet, so it will be hard to justify an expensive one, so cheap and cheerful may be the path I go down, if at all. But I definitely won’t get a cheap one if it has no guaranteed path to Android 13. And a magisk root solution. I was also a little surprised that my phone, which is now 2years old out powered even some of the better devices. I guess the cost is consumed by the big screen.

You can find a new s7 for US $500. Used even cheaper. 13 is its last upgrade.

Hello. I am trying to install Lineage on my Galaxy J8 using these files: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...-for-samsung-j810g-gf-f-m-y-j8y18lte.4491917/
But I can't figure out how do I follow these instructions.
So far I've managed to install TWRP, but it does not have a "install" option, and unless the phone is in the normal Samsung OS, it won't connect to adb.
For instance, I try follow this: https://www.androidauthority.com/lineageos-install-guide-893303/
Once I run adb reboot bootloader the phone restarts into what seems to be a download mode... and then disconnects from adb, now my list of devices is always empty and it never connects, so I can't do the sideload thing.

The picture is my TWRP menu, it does not connect to adb on my computer even though the normal samsung OS does, so I can't use the install update from adb option and I don't have a working SD card.
I don't have any particularity on how I get, or which rom I get. All I want is a fresh installation of any OS that does not have the uninstallable samsung stuff rammed my gut.
Thanks in advance!

Some facts before; Samsung doesn't have fastboot enabled, the guide you are trying to follow is for other devices that have it, and, you can't flash a custom image using a stock recovery (there are some exceptions but generally speaking).

Prior to attempt to flash something "custom" onto your device, you need to make some steps:
- Back up the files that are important for you.
- Enable USB debugging and OEM unlock options https://www.samsungsfour.com/tutori...oem-unlocking-on-samsung-s-galaxy-one-ui.html
- Flash a custom recovery, for example, this, check if it matches with your exact model https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...rp-3-3-1-0-galaxy-j8-j810m-f-fn-g-ds.3962423/
- To flash it, follow this guide https://nerdschalk.com/how-to-install-twrp-recovery-using-odin/ if it doesn't boot, you need to repeat the operation or try first unchecking the Auto reboot option in Odin tool.
- Then, in TWRP, first, recommended, backup the most important partitions, if available, EFS, persist, modem, etc., and transfer them to your PC or other safe place. Now you can boot to TWRP again, and flash the LineageOS ROM.

Keep in mind that all is a reference on how-to-do, the files may work or not.

Oh, so the screenshot I sent was not from TWRP but the default recovery? I was under the impression I had managed to install TWRP through Odin, but it seems to not be the case. Rectifying that should help quite a lot

I've managed, the phone was unloading TWRP on first book and I needed to hold volume up.
Now I got a brand new Lineage and it seems to be working. How do I install the MindTheGapps now?
The instructions I find are "Just flash this zip!" but I am not entirely sure which part of the process is "flashing".
Can I sideload it? It also seems I should've done that BEFORE my first lineage boot or I will get crashes, so the procedure now should be:

1) Boot into recovery.
2) Wipe data
3) Sideload Lineage
3.5?) (Boot into recovery again if it forces me to reboot after sideloading)
4) Sideload MindTheGapps
5) Restart with installing TWRP

Is this correct?

I got these two zips that seem to be somewhat the same thing, Google playstore + other google apps, but I am not quite sure what's the difference besides one being 200mb and the other 400mb.

Alternatively, I don't quite care if it's the playstore or some other 3rd party appstore, all I want is to be able to search for an app I am missing and quickly install it through some 'app installing app'. So I am also accepting suggestions of alternative appstores instead of instructions on how to install the google playstore.

If you already have TWRP installed, then, in order to flash the Google package apps, you can make one of these procedures:
- Transfer the zip to a SD card, then put it in your device, and flash it through it.
- Do adb push Googlepackage.zip /sdcard/Download where Googlepackage is...the Google package apps.
- Do adb sideload and drag and drop the Google package zip from where you have it in your PC to the terminal window, then tap enter.
Note that you will be not forced to reboot, till you choose to.

If you don't care about Google Play Services, you can choose not to use it, but keep in mind, that the Play Store is different from the Play Services, you can finely install any app from almost any source, but some apps need Play Services, even to run. There are some alternatives, though, to Play Store/Services.

The Google package, differing in sizes is because of quantity of apps to be installed, and the version, for newer devices is ARM64.

Although this said, read in the Lineage OS forum, if someone suggests a specific set of Google package apps, LOS usually comes with them, check it first.

Hi everybody!
I'd like to root an unbranded China tablet and replace Android with some Linux distro, like Ubuntu Touch, but I'm a total newbie and I don't know where to start from.
Here is what I see in the settings:

You don´t need to root the device, in order to put a different ROM, instead, you need to unlock the bootloader. Anyway, From what I know you should need, an Ubuntu Touch ported for your device, the list of devices supported is not extensive, and at least you think to build it for your device, I don´t hink your device is in the list, anyway, you can see the official site, to ckeck it yourself https://ubports.com/nl/supported-products?pk_vid=a6767500f5634ae2167262928843d322

Hi, thank you for replying. Unfortunately, my device is not listed since it's unbranded. It's still not clear to me how to build and port it for a generic device, when the only information I could retrieve is that it's based on Android 8.
How can I find the required rom version for a generic Android device from some unknown Chinese manufacturer?

I don't think is because it's "unbranded", also many "branded" devices are not supported, the official UBports is most likely abandoned?, or if you prefer; "not growing", although some devices had some development in the past, just because of personal initiatives from developers/enthusiasts, I used it in my MiA3, RN7, but I saw, that also these, are abandoned. Also, from what I know, devices not specifically developed for them, should need a custom ROM as a base, i.e. LineageOS.

If you want to know more from your device, you can get more information using an app like Device Specs, or others, try to know if your device can support Treble, I don't think but, just to be sure, install and run an app like treble support, if your device can support it, you, at least, are able to run a GSI, if not, then you are out of luck.

Is there a way to have the old button shortcut (hold recents) to split screen in Huawei Y9 Prime in EMUI 12 without rolling back the update?

Hello, I am new to your forums, and I hope I am posting this in the right place.
I'm wondering if anyone has access to a "mobogenie" installer.
I have a 16gb Hipstreet Phoenix (not rooted) that is in a boot loop, because the update corrupted.
I've been led to believe that mobogenie will look up the tablet automatically, and apply any needed ROM or flashing or something.
any help, or direction towards help would be appreciated.
From what I know, Mobogenie is (was?) just a kind of Android manager/bridge between your PC and a smartphone, it can´t flash/install/update any form of firmware.

Instead, you should search for a reliable firmware for your device, and search for a tool that can flash it, according the processor it has.

Firstly, you should try by booting to the recovery stock, and making wipes, and if needed, formatting data, trying to fix it.
    1
Hello, and thank you for the reply.
I (as well as others) can't seem to find the original firmware.
hipstreet has no download section containing anything useful (at least as far as I could figure, I am a novice afterall)
However, the processor seems to be a "1.6GHz Quad Core CPU processor".

The reason I had asked specifically about Mobogenie was because another user in an XDA thread said it was pretty much a one shot problem solver.
This is the thread I'm talking about.

I'm not sure if linking is allowed, but it's an XDA link, so I figured it wouldn't violate the sites TOS

However, when I boot up the tablet, it gives me the Hipstreet H screen (which i assume is bios), waits a few seconds, proceeds to the next splash screen saying "Hipstreet Phoenix" which i assume is it preparing to load its OS.. then it goes to a screen saying "android is upgrading" with a looping circle symbolizing loading, with text that says "starting apps".

seems like progress, however it doesn't get past this screen.
I have left it for several hours to see if maybe it would bypass it, but nothing yet.

I tried using android recovery too, and after using all available options, I can only get back to the point I mentioned about it "starting apps" and not going further.

I apologize for the long post, but I figure if I'm able to get any advice, I should provide all info I can.

Thank you all for your help.
Apart from what it says the tittle, all the thread is focused in the goal to achieve root in this device, it may be, primarily, because, either, in the old days, some specific firmware were not friendly with rooting, or they need to get the kernel from the stock firmware, in order to inject su binaries into it. I found nothing about flashing a ROM.

From what I remember, many years back, I installed this app, but in order to have what they claim to do, manage, share and transfer files from and to, Android and PC, apart of offer a kind of app store, but it resulted in many problems, not entirely sure, but it seems, it contained a troupe of virus, so I formatted and reinstalled the OS, in order to recover my PC, (success).

I assume, that you mean for "all available options" that you did in recovery, that you formatted data?

Also, you can try to boot to fastboot and make fastboot -w then try to boot.
    1
I have identified the app now and uninstalled, but my other problems still exist like not being able to connect/manage wifi connections. The wifi button doesn't even show when pulling down the control panel and does not show up in settings which means I can also not use the Play Store. Since its a truly custom kernel too, it even tells me that Android Version is 1.1.5 but is actually 7.0.

Here is a shot of my reduced settings options:
I guess you couldn´t enter to settings, and you already use the activity launcher app to do so, same way, either you did or not, you could try with an activity launcher app to launch WiFi settings section, just in case you´re wondering what is this, https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.szalkowski.activitylauncher&hl=en&gl=US

    Hello guys..:)
I would like you to go through XDA new users guide and you must read the FORUM RULES before posting here or anywhere else on xda.

The rate at which the new users are joining xda on daily basis is very high. A lot of users join because they have got some problems with their devices like bricked phone, bootloops etc. because of following incorrect processes. Some join to help out others, to share their knowledge and gain more.

So basically this thread is for all of those who want to ask questions and answer those.

So those who want to help here, just try to answer without flaming, let it be answered thousands of times earlier, show them the path, direction and let them do things on their own. Do not spoon feed, rather just try to point them to right direction.

This whole idea is of @undercover and the former OP Bruce Wayne and I thank him.

To The people asking questions here, don't forget to check for the links from 2nd post. That will help you increase your knowledge, and do answer the questions asked by others if you know the answer. Please don't simply say thanks if some member helps you, instead use the thanks button, that will help us keep this thread less cluttered.
