Hi,

Please I need help. Some days ago I successfuly rooted my phone with magisk.

All was running ok but after some days, when trying to do a small change to the /system/etc/init/hw/init.rc with root explorer, accidentally cleared the contents of the init.rc

Now I have an empty init.rc and dont know how to recover it.

The phone is still connected, working and fully charged.

From what I understood, if I reboot the V20 without init.rc it will bricked right? The ADB/Fastboot depends on the init.rc I think... right?

Since the phone is on and still working, can I do a Magisk uninstall to recover it?

Will Magisk uninstall recover boot and ramdisk with all files including stock init.rc or will this brick my phone?

Thank you for your help
Uninstalling Magisk, probably, won´t help, you should flash, instead, the boot image, your device had, previous to that mistake.

As per sugestions, I did flash the stock ROM and re-rooted the phone with no issues. My main doubt was If by rebooting it would permanently brick the phone, but not, all went well. Thanks!

The issue that provoked this is more strange and still happening. I was trying to do a change to make the phone automatically power on and start when charging. As per several sugestions from different sources I was trying to change the init.rc with these lines:

From:
on charger
class_start charger

to:

on charger
exec u:r:magisk:s0 -- /system/bin/reboot

But whenever I try to edit the file, when I save it it will become blank. Same thing if I copy any file from internal storage or SD card to system/etc/init/hw folder. The file is copied but empty.

I tried this already with 2 different root file manager apps: Root Explorer and File Expert. both with RW/Monted
On File Expert the destination file is created but completely empty.
On Root Explorer it gives an error saying that It couldnt copy the file
On root Explorer i I try to edit the file when saving the file will become blank (0 bytes size)

Any sugestions on how to properly edit this file without emptying it?

many thanks

Please I have a quite dumb question about Android 12/13 GSIs.

How do I get rounded corners on apps as they are closed and opened? I've tried so many GSIs, and so far only lawnchair 12.1 has that feature as far as I know. But I want to use the feature on other lawnchers too.

Thanks.

Firstly, re-check that this is the right way, to edit the inic.rc file, and it is compatible with the Android version, some tricks that worked with some versions, won´t work anymore with newer, Android, constantly change the rules.

And, personally, I don´t think the file gets blank, but the file explorer app, only make an "apparent" copy/paste, but never got the system be writable. Since Android 10, system are not RW by default, read something like this https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...uper-partition-converter-by-lebigmac.4247311/ there are others guide, that could work though.

Hello, I am new to your forums, and I hope I am posting this in the right place.
I'm wondering if anyone has access to a "mobogenie" installer.
I have a 16gb Hipstreet Phoenix (not rooted) that is in a boot loop, because the update corrupted.
I've been led to believe that mobogenie will look up the tablet automatically, and apply any needed ROM or flashing or something.
any help, or direction towards help would be appreciated.

From what I know, Mobogenie is (was?) just a kind of Android manager/bridge between your PC and a smartphone, it can´t flash/install/update any form of firmware.

Instead, you should search for a reliable firmware for your device, and search for a tool that can flash it, according the processor it has.

Firstly, you should try by booting to the recovery stock, and making wipes, and if needed, formatting data, trying to fix it.

Hello, and thank you for the reply.
I (as well as others) can't seem to find the original firmware.
hipstreet has no download section containing anything useful (at least as far as I could figure, I am a novice afterall)
However, the processor seems to be a "1.6GHz Quad Core CPU processor".

The reason I had asked specifically about Mobogenie was because another user in an XDA thread said it was pretty much a one shot problem solver.
This is the thread I'm talking about.

I'm not sure if linking is allowed, but it's an XDA link, so I figured it wouldn't violate the sites TOS

However, when I boot up the tablet, it gives me the Hipstreet H screen (which i assume is bios), waits a few seconds, proceeds to the next splash screen saying "Hipstreet Phoenix" which i assume is it preparing to load its OS.. then it goes to a screen saying "android is upgrading" with a looping circle symbolizing loading, with text that says "starting apps".

seems like progress, however it doesn't get past this screen.
I have left it for several hours to see if maybe it would bypass it, but nothing yet.

I tried using android recovery too, and after using all available options, I can only get back to the point I mentioned about it "starting apps" and not going further.

I apologize for the long post, but I figure if I'm able to get any advice, I should provide all info I can.

Thank you all for your help.

Apart from what it says the tittle, all the thread is focused in the goal to achieve root in this device, it may be, primarily, because, either, in the old days, some specific firmware were not friendly with rooting, or they need to get the kernel from the stock firmware, in order to inject su binaries into it. I found nothing about flashing a ROM.

From what I remember, many years back, I installed this app, but in order to have what they claim to do, manage, share and transfer files from and to, Android and PC, apart of offer a kind of app store, but it resulted in many problems, not entirely sure, but it seems, it contained a troupe of virus, so I formatted and reinstalled the OS, in order to recover my PC, (success).

I assume, that you mean for "all available options" that you did in recovery, that you formatted data?

Also, you can try to boot to fastboot and make fastboot -w then try to boot.

I must have been reading the thread wrong, thank you for clarifying.
However, yes I have tried using recovery, formatting, wiping cache, and rebooting, but I find myself in the same situation.
there's nothing on this tablet that I wish to save, so I am willing to try anything.
Initially, the tablet worked fine, but I decided to (through the settings menus) get it to update from kitkat.
it hasn't worked since.. well specifically it hasn't made it past that "starting apps" screen since.
I apologize, but I don't understand what you mean by booting in fast boot, or what prompt to type in that code.
thank you for your continued replies and help however.

To can boot to fastboot mode, you may search the exact buttons you have to press, and the goal to make fastboot -w is to can format data, in the hope to can boot to OS, in case, something failed in recovery mode.

If you rebooted to recovery using hardware buttons, then just change the volume button you used, combined with the PWR button, this will redirect you to fastboot mode.

Volume Up + Power get me to the recovery mode.
Volume Down + Power get me to fastboot mode?
Am I understanding that correctly?
I just tried formatting again, wiping the cache, and rebooting.
I removed SD card, I removed USB cable as some guides say that it might cause additional problems.
thanks again, for continued support.

*it's been a few minutes, and now it doesn't get further than the Hipstreet Phoenix screen, which is the second splash screen before loading apps/os

normally it goes "H" screen (prob bios), Phoenix Screen (mfg splash), Android is upgrading starting apps screen (OS boot) then it typically endlessly loops on the third screen, but now it's endlessly loading on the Phoenix screen.

also, how long is too long to wait for these screens to advance?

**To follow up, I tried the Vol Dwn + Pwr to enable fastboot, but it got to the screen where it says: "android is upgrading" and "starting apps" with the loading symbol and looped there, like it did previously.

It is not worst than before, your device may need to flash the stock ROM, in order to recover it.

If you can get someone with a backup, to can upload the files for you, it´ll be great.

Also, get to know the specs of your device, in case it´s a MediaTek, probably you can try something more.

I really appreciate your replies and support.
I think the company hipstreet is bankrupt, and their website defunct.
I have looked everywhere for the stock rom. I can't seem to find it, and I wouldn't know a different suitable one to put on instead.

as far as the specs of the device, it's this exact tablet.

I found nothing about what I asked, you need to know, atleast, which processor is using, in order to search for a tool, to try some random stuffs.

And what about the fastboot command I wrote?

as far as I understood, pressing the buttons on the side was what you meant about enabling fastboot.
if it's an actual cmd I need to type into a prompt, what prompt, and how do i access it?
like I've said, I'm a novice user, and don't really understand this.
additionally as far as I am able to tell, the only way to identify specifically what processor this is using, is to have access to it while it's in working order.

You said, you entered to recovery mode, so if you pressed the volume up + PWR buttons, to enter to, then, usually, pressing the volume down + PWR buttons you could enter to fastboot mode.
if it's an actual cmd I need to type into a prompt, what prompt, and how do i access it?
If you set it up the ADB connection, between your device and the PC, then probably, you can boot from recovery to fastboot mode by doing adb reboot bootloader, or it is probably too, that in recovery menu, you can find an option to boot to bootloader mode.
like I've said, I'm a novice user, and don't really understand this.

Well, you also can search in the net more information about your device, or probably you still have the box, by typing the IMEI, there are some sites that can bring you more information.

Hello, basically I need to decrypt backed up Whatsapp chats from my old Android 8.00 phone (ZTE Axon 7) to
be able to retrieve login credentials to an old Steam account of mine. I have shared the login information with a friend about 5 years ago over Whatsapp and now I want to log into that account again. The phone is not rooted so I can't get the key file to decrypt the chat backup. Is there any way for me to get the key file or read the messages in a different way? Also I don't have access to the phone number that was used back then anymore so just logging into Whatsapp with it is not an option. Thanks in advance
