The camera protrudes slightly on the HD2 too, so I wouldn't guess this is any worse. That has good a bad points. Good, in that the speaker can still be heard when placed on a flat surface, but I do worry about the camera lens becoming scratched, as there's no protection for it.

Thank You!
As most 'universal' screen mounts are adjustable you shouldn't have any problems finding a solution. They aren't all rubbish, you can get decent ones off ebay for a reasonable price.

I am desperate for a good case for my DHD and as a temporary measure I bought an average one designed for the HD2. Although the dimensions are similar it's a tight fit. OK for now but will wait for a Proporta aluminium lined case to appear. They are top notch.
That HD2 case you bought.. is this the one? This pouch was originally designed for the HD2 although it says Desire HD in the title.

I bought this off ebay yesterday, so i'd like to hear opinions on it.

Question about HTCSense.com

How does www.htcsense.com establish a connection to your Desire HD to perform all those funky tasks?

For example, would your Desire HD need a constant internet connection (HSDPA, 3G, GPRS, WiFi) so that HTCSense.com could send the commands to it?

...Or does your phone need constant GPS connection (although I know GPS doesn't carry data except for determining your position)

...Or do you just need to have a cellular phone signal (i.e. be on a network such as O2 or Orange), where HTCSense.com would (probably) send a 'secret' text message with the relevant command in.

If it is the latter, then I suppose if the Desire HD has it's sim card replaced or removed, or the Desire HD has no signal/reception then HTCSense.com would not be able to perform all those commands?

Thanks

That's something I'd like to know too. But I think it's linked to your data connection because if you see how they explain the phone-lock, it's meant to work with your SIM into the phone and it's meant to be activated before the phone is found by someone else!...so I believe it will not work anymore as soon as someone else puts another sim in.

I remember a software (called Sprite-Mobile Terminator) which would work by sending a 'secret' text message with a special command in it to the stolen phone, where the stolen phone would then perform the command. It would also automatically send the new number of a replaced SIM to a predetermined number should a thief replace your SIM with his. It would seem logical that HTCSense works like this (or similar to this), to avoid constant data connections (plus, it would kill the battery life!)

Also, it is possible to set up a password/PIN on the phones start-up so should someone replace the SIM, the phone wouldn't be much use to them (although there would probably be a more technical way to get around this).
Having said that, since the SIM is replaced you (I think) lose all HTCSense functionality... Unless HTCSense update your account with the new mobile number.

Please someone who has a Desire HD, put us out of our misery ;)

When you see pictures of the DHD you believe the camera to be a big protrusion that detracts from the shape of the phone. In reality it's not. It looks to be an approx 2mm protrusion and when you put the phone in your pocket it doesn't hinder or look obvious.

Some web reviews harp on about it being too big to go easily in your pocket. It isn't! Unless you're an EMO with skin tight jeans in which case you'd have the problem with any phone!

As for syncing with Outlook... I use Office Outlook 2010 32 bit version with no problem at all. I am using Windows 7 64 bit. When I installed Office it stated that 32 bit version is better for most users and should only consider 64bit when working with huge spreadsheets etc. Now I don't see why there should be a problem syncing with the 64bit version but I can't test that.
Lol yes obsession it's just it looks like it's sticking out quite a lot on the side shots I've seen of it. Sounds like it's not an issue - thanks for all the replies on this.

Great to hear someone syncing with Outlook 2010. I understand there's some benefit in 64 bit even with Outlook (as well as 100+page .docx and said massive .xlsx) But that's off-topic....

GPS

Hi All,

I need GPS tracking in areas w/ no cell phone coverage. I haven't bought a Samsung Galaxy S because of the ongoing problems with the GPS.

I'd be most grateful for any insight from DHD owners about the GPS capabilities, especially time to get a sat lock and tracking accuracy w/ cell phone and wifi turned off.

Thanks in advance.

No I didn't buy a pouch, personally I don't like them as there is a possibility of the device slipping out. I bought a closable case. The pouch will probably fair better for you as it will allow it to poke out the top a little.

Neoprane cases are probably the best 'temporary' solution as they obviously stretch, but I really love the Proporta cases and when they become available (Proporta say they are working on one to be released in a couple of weeks) that will be my next buy.

There is a built in Map solution (Called Locations) but if you want navigation or traffic/Speed cameras then you have to pay a subscription. It's also lacking in detail and features that you get with a proper SatNav program.

I use CoPilot 8 and it cost me £25 for UK & Ireland. It's really excellent value and obviously you don't need a mobile or WiFi signal to use it.

GPS locks very quickly and seems to track accurately. I can't say whether this would be the case with other SatNav s/w but CoPilot is working perfectly well.

Right, 2 wee questions...

1. Has anybody been able to get the DLNA function to successfully work? i.e. I'm trying to play video's from my Desire HD on my PS3. Windows Media Player can see the but again it won't play anything.

2. Is anyone able to upload video's to youtube using the share feature? It just get's stuck on a loop of retrying when connected to a wifi network.

Thanks. :)

p.s. On full brightness the display is a lot more vibrant than people seem to think. Most youtube video's I've seen clearly don't have it up when comparing screens.

Menus Languages that come with the DHD??

Okay,

Right now there's seems to be plenty of users with a DHD. Specially from UK...
But the question that I'm going to ask have to be answered by users who didn't bought the DHD in the UK.

Can you guys, please tell me what are the menu languages that come with your (non-uk) DHD, please??
Beside your native language, does at least come also with English??

Please I need to hear you guys...

I used up half of my 500mb data in three days. I don know what is happening and can anyone help me on this? A few question I wanted to ask:

1) On your DHD is there any application running on your background that require to sync the time you set? I set it every 1hour for news, friend stream, mail, facebook and twitter.

2) Do you auto-sync it or manually?

3) DO you always on your mobile data or on it when you wanted to use?

4) When I download an application that require full internet access (When you install it from Market, you can see what the apps access or something like that) does it constantly sent data? Or i need to force close it?

I'm new in android phone and sorry if I ever annoyed anyone with my questions. Thanks. =D
