Few design questions... Very important ones ! Considering canceling my pre-order Even though I really don't want to. It's the only 4.3" GSM Droid at the moment and it has no rivals.

All over the forum you see statements about the DHD, I don't know what to believe anymore !

1. Is the screen inferior to the one on HD2 when it's comes to it's shock-proofness ? People keep saying that the lightest tap will break it. What's the deal ?

2. Does the aluminum case extends beyond the LCD screen to create a lip ?

3. Are the plastic covers pathetic and WILL BREAK or just not comfortable to slide out ? Are they quality enough to not ruin the quality feel of the rest of the phone ?

4. Is it 16M colors S-LCD or plain LCD with 65k ?

I'm still waiting for handtec but my new 16 GB sd card just come in. I'm new to android and so now a little noob question:

Desire HD comes with an 8 gb card ... can I switch the cards before the first boot or is the 8 gb requiered on first boot? I've read there a some files on it... Thx 4 help!
I can't remember exactly, think I removed 8gb before first boot, copied all contents to 32gb then put that in phone and booted.
OR You could always first boot with 8gb then switch off, remove the card, copy all contents to 16gb, insert and boot
It does not matter really when you want to copy the contents from one card to another. I've done it many times with other phones.
You can either do it by connecting your phone to your PC via USB and look for the MicroSD card in your PC's Explorer or as ericjennings mentions by removing the MicroSD card from the phone and putting it in either a MicroSD to SD Adapter or MicroSD to USB Adapter.

My method is to leave the old card in the phone and connect via USB and put the new card in a USB Adapter and copy the contents from old to new.
I also create new folders on the new card and add any additional files.
Once complete disconnect both cards, change them over, boot up your phone and it should happily be reading the new card with all the old data on it.

Well, that's just what you are used to.

before my DHD I owned a Nexus One and the first thing I noticed was the "vague" colours of the DHD. the Nexus One has far more vivid colours.

Guess it's just something I have to get used to...
Having compared it to the iPhone 4 and the SGS's SAMOLED screen, I still prefer the (s)LCD screen of the DHD.

The iPhone 4 has a really really good display but it's a little to small for me. What good is the huge resolution if you only have 3.5" to work with?

The Samsung Galaxy S made me ROFL. I had it in my hand, turned it on and immediately thought "what the f***?" Everyone is boasting about this SAMOLED screen with its vivid colours, sharpness, viewing angles and so on...

All I saw was a screen covered in harsh OVERsaturated colors, being a lot less sharp than the DHD's screen (don't ask me why, resolution is the same, but the SGS's screen really does look less sharp). Ok, it was easier to read in broad daylight BUT when going inside, I simply became sick (literally) of all those wrong bright colours, making my photos look like crap.
Sure it has huge viewing angles, but the DHD's viewing angles aren't that bad, they're actually really good.

What is up with that SLCD screen? An SLCD screen doesn't exist, does it? SLCD is the name of a company that makes LCD screens, not the name of a type of screen.

Anyway if I'm wrong, doesn't really matter because the DHD has the screen I want. More than enough brightness, sharp as hell and nice'n big.

Thank You!

Don't give up on the SLCD screen just yet. If you haven't been used to an AMOLED screen you won't think any different. The SLCD screen does have advantages in that it's better in sunlight and less hungry on power.

Some people complained a lot about colours being OVER saturated on AMOLED screens. So this display may be a better option. As I stated before, I have quickly got used to the screen now and I think it looks absolutely fine.
I agree with you on that last point, but an (S)LCD screen still uses more power than an SAMOLED screen and it is still not quite as readable in direct sunlight as an AMOLED screen, at least not the ones I tested.

But all those SAMOLED advantages melt away like snow in the sun when you look at the colors themselves. When I first had a SAMOLED screen in my hands, I was stunned, really stunned by how badly it showed the colours, it made me sick.

Maybe I'm a little "muggenzifter"(don't know the English word) on those colours since I'm a photographer but I would never ever buy a phone with a SAMOLED screen simply because my pictures do not show the way I want them to.

And I'm still having doubts if a SLCD screen actually exists. I can find no information about it, only that SLCD is a company (owned by Samsung) that produces LCD screens. The latest display made by that company is still called an "LCD" screen, and there is not one word about a screen called SLCD to be found online, unless in HTC forums

Got mine sim free from phones 4 u rugb[email protected] £449.95, mind you i had rang the northampton, corby, leicester, market harborough, coventry, and kettering branches,
if they try to tell you it is contract only, just tell them you know they sell it sim free, they tend to back down and say something like "i have just checked with my manager and oh yes i see it is available sim free.....sir"

good hunting.

Sorry for this q is there a way of reducing the amount of screens on the DHD?

I have only had the device 2 days and so far I cannot find where you can reduce the amount of screens.

Many Thanks

1. Don't know really and I'm sorry but I'm not gonna try that one for you lol.

2. Yes it does, for about 0,2mm. Nobody cares.

3. They fit nicely and are high quality. Seems that those who got their phones out of early batches have some sort of problems with the covers.

4. It's 16M colors, don't know if it's S-LCD or regular LCD and I don't really care either since I'm very happy with it.

E: I have a couple of questions myself:

1. How do you delete contacts?

2. Why can't I download from the Android market? Is it my phone or does it affect everyone?

Hi got my desire hd yesterday and am loving the device so far. I have previously had a touch hd and hd2 and so coming form windows mobile to android is a little more difficult but i will persevere! I have a couple of questions:

1) I previously had some excel documents stored on my storage card. I have tried opening quickoffice and then clicking on some of the files which are stored on my sd card. Unfortunately i get the message "file cannot be opened". Is there anyway i can retrieve my excel spreadsheets stored on my sd card?

2) To me the browsing experience is great but is similar in speed to my hd2. I was expecting the browser to load pages quicker. Any idea on how to speed up web browsing?

3) Does wifi automaically start and disappear if I go into a location where the passcode has already been done. In the hd2 i had to manually turn on and turn off wifi. Is there a wifi toggle anywhere?

Thanks

1. May be possible when you go to the dialer, then go to a contact, touch menu button.. Just a guess, you will find it after some searching around.

2. My friend's Desire has the same problem, he uses Saunalahti. So the problem is not in your phone.

I saw a video on youtube from a guy claiming that most XDA members complains about a certain screen issue though I haven't found this here.is this true?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JiNa8EHkViE&feature=player_embedded

also he complains that the screen is bad,the colors are more to white and blue and the screen looks almost like the HD2 screen.

he also complains that the camera shots quality is worse than nokia N70.

he also complains about the market and that sometimes in appear in chinese.

he also says that the speaker sound is so low that if you go outside, you might not hear the phone ringing.

he says that the battery is so bad that in just one and a half hour,it went from 100% to 15%

he says that when you charge the phone,it become so hot that you think that you re boiling it with gas and fire!

he also says that the phone plays avi files as divx files.

he says that there is a problem with the light sensor.he says that when you sleep and put the phone near you, your breath can make the screen turns on because of the light sensor!

the reason why I'm asking this is that he managed to convince many people that the desire HD is a waste of a money and he uses XDA developers forum as a back up by mentioning it from time to time to prove his point.so now I'm asking you all this question, are his claims true or he is making stuff from his head?
a nice reply would be appreciated :D

I love mine,

Some people are never satisfied....maybe he owns an Iphone lol

So the answer to silencer without quoting the whole lot is ..yes he is way way off the beaten track with that..us xda guys complained about the mix up in what the screen was...s-lcd or normal ect.

The screen is nice and bright and crisp and thats coming form me who sold his galaxy s....ok the galaxy s is better but the desire hd screen is very nice and certainly not bad.
I sort of agree with is the camera exposure indoors could be better..outside video is very good...although not quite up to the quality of the galaxy s
Market place always in english with uk £ sign...god knows where he gets that from..
Speaker is low, yes too low, I have to agree but through headphones very loud and very good quality.
Battery life seems ok after a week, yes keep wi fi turned on and it will drain pretty quick...nothing new there.
Battery does not get hot, mine doesn't get hot even with a hydro gel case on it.
avi files play as avi haha
the light sensor about breath turning the screen on had me in fits of laughter...total rubbish...there was a problem with the proxy sensor but again..I was lucky enough to not have any problems.

Clearly this guy likes sitting on his Iphone while doing these kind of bullsh*t reviews
