Do not do any official upgrade at all. Just root your phone, do S-Off and then install a custom ROM if you want Gingerbread.
Updating your DHD will force you the downgrade if you want to root, but depending on your firmware version (if it is greater 1.32) you might have to downgrade any way.
Hey there! Speaking from experience ( I also came from the Sony x10i ), the best way to get your phone working the way YOU want is by rooting.

OTA updates are not advisable. It took me nearly 24 hours to root my Sony BUT it took me under 2 hours to root my DHD and install RCMIX.

I say if you're holding a DHD then the best ROM for it would be RCMIX Kingdom's ROM ( Sense 3 ). :D

Here's the link to the ROM

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1074191

Here's a link to root for device. Good luck ;o)

http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/how-to-root-htc-desire-hd-with-visionary-one-click-root/

If you're stuck, there are many friendly helpers on the thread.

Find root to the DHD is really easy !!

Once again.. GOOD LUCK !!

PS.. LUCKILY for me I didn't have to downgrade or change anything.. After I achieved root, everything was sweet as! Happy flashing! Hehehe!!!

Here's a link that could be useful to you ;o)

Calibrating DHD Battery

hey everyone,
cant post on dev's threads so here's my question/Dilemma:
After getting so desperate that i event went and bought a new battery from htc i gave up, i'm currently on ARHD with a radio that drains nothing on standby nor during calls, almost no apps installed other than the stock ones, clean install. I get 1 to 4ma on standby, drain is 1% an hour overnight on standby with 3g on and autosync on (exchange): my battery drain is excellent on standby BUT: as soon as i turn that screen on and start using my phone you can actually watch the battery drain in front of your eyes, am talking 5 % drain in less than 2 minutes, i set my screen on auto brightness.... if anyone can link me the BEST way to calibrate my battery after flashing a ROM (Full wipe) as in a detailed working/tested way to calibrate my battery... please i love my DHD and this issue is almost killing my life.
PS: I have tried every possible tutorials out there for calibration.
Thanks in advance.

Downgrade.

Hello,

If a DHD has been updated OTA to a newer version, lets say 2.37, what happenes if you run RUU_Ace_HTC_WWE_1.32.405.3_Radio_12.28b.60.140e_26.03.02.15_M3_release_155032_signed.exe or any other older RUU that 2.37 on it? Will it work?
I am asking this just as a backup plan. I currently have cm7 installed, but in case I have to send it into service i will need to reinstall a RUU (obviously will install something older) so that it gets waranty acceptance and then returns with the 2.37 update.

Best regards,
Ivan.

You cant downgrade phone firmware this way. There is a downgrade guide in developers section.

Charge it too 100% (until current widget shows 0mA), reboot in recovery and wipe battery stats. That should work.

Guys,

Wondering if you can help me. Planning on debranding a friend's DHD this weekend. Here's what I'm planning on doing:

1.Create Goldcard
2.Use it to downgrade ROM
3.Root ROM (don't install Clockwork)
4.Use one of the tools to change CID to stock
5.Run an RUU (preferably Froyo as I want to check that the OTA updates for GB arrive as expected)

Firstly, will this work in debranding the phone and allowing him to receive future OTA updates directly from HTC? Secondly, I'm not sure which RUU to run in the final step?

Many Thanks

Flash Stock ROM

Hi all, firstly I appologise for asking this question, I tried to search for my question however 'Search' its always says "search is unavailable"...anyway..... I made a Gold Card for my DHD and have added a stock rom on the SD Card and named it PD98IMG.zip. Boot finds the file ok, loads its, then verifies it, no errors found nor warning messages, however after it verifies it returns to boot screen. What should I do next to force the stock rom to install/flash?

My DHD is 100% stock and hasn't been rooted.

Many thanks

Paul

First of all, if you are trying to reboot using adb it won't work, since there is no adb daemon running when you are in the bootloader. You have to use fastboot for that.

If you are using fastboot though, check whether it says "Fastboot USB" on your device. If it doesn't, try switching the USB port or change the mode to USB.

Follow instructions.
You cant flash stock rom by just placing PD98IMG.zip on SD card. There are a few more actions.

Hello, new to the forums. I'm not sure if this is right to ask here, but here we go:

I want to root and start using custom roms on my desire hd android 2.3.3. Now, I have read a lot of info here because I don't want to mess some things up. There's just couple of things I want to ask.

First I wanna know if this is the right track to do this:

-first downgrade
-then root
-then radio s-off
-then download rom manager and flash clockworkmod recovery (this is the part where I'm not sure. Is the version from market good? Or do I have to change it for different version. I have been seeing that with some versions you would have to change to another or something?.
-If this is right to this point, am I now able to flash for example. android revolution rom? There says in the thread that version 3.0.2.6 or higher clockworkmod required. So, coming back to the recovery thing, do I have to update the market version somehow?

I would also like to know if it's required to format my current sd card before doing these things, if so how?

I would appreciate if someone could understand the post I wrote and answer the "noobie" guestions. I just wanna get everything clear, before I regret that something went wrong or something.:)

1. The sequence is right.
2. You can use CWM from market.
3. You dont need to format sd card.

Hi, I'm a noob and can't post to most forums yet but I do have some info from HTC regarding 2.37. As strange as it may sound they have been trying to help with 2.37 as I have many issues since upgrading. They have got me to try many things to force a downgrade, including running official 2.37 RUU to at least reflash the version I'm on and even that didn't work, they also go me to try other things to root the device but again it failed. So even HTC can't downgrade or even reflash the current 2.37. As a result of this they bricked my DHD. I have a ton of files they gave me, if they are of any help to someone please let me know.

Perhaps the guys over at: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905003&page=163 may be interested.

Thanks
