Are you going to keep it? That gap is unacceptable

Now that Google is telling anyone who contacts them it's a design feature all of us with no gap need to complain. Without that gap, pressure could build up and our phones will explode. Since I carry my phone in my front pocket, it could get dicey, I don't want to be a eunuch. ??

I got the phone a week ago and only after 2-3 days of use my screen separated from the body of the phone in one of the corners. I can even see the glue! Proximity sensor stopped working, I'm guessing due to this separation... Google! I'm extremely disappointed as I was always praising the Pixel series as perfect phones. Being Pixel 2 owner for years this is a major letdown!! I will now try to file a warranty claim....

Update1:
I just had a chat with the support and initially they said it's normal. But I showed them a video of the problem and now they're having a closer look at my case. We'll see what will happen....

I have to stop reading these posts. Everytime I read one I have to pull the case off my phone and check it. I have absolutely no gap anywhere, you can't get a knife blade in anywhere around my screen but I still have to check. ?

Wait, you have a case on this sleek device? Seriously? lol I actually bought a slim, transparent case and had it on for one day. Said ok let me play with it naked for a day before I put it back on. Still sitting in my drawer. This phone is too nice to add to the bulk or cover it up. So I'm going naked for a while and I better not effin' drop it. Oh yeah, not a hint of a gap.

Pixel 5 Gap feature

We knew there is an android inside those phones but you never told us that it needs a breathable air to stay alive...hence the gap?

Well. I disagree there. After many days using the phone naked and with different cases (whatever I found in stock in Amazon Europe), yesterday, I got a Spigen thin fit and now I can finally enjoy the phone with one hand

1) naked: quite slippery
2) Anccer ultra slim case: very slippery
3) Spigen Ultra Hybrid: huge case and a bit heavy. A bit slippery as well (but less than naked).
4) Spigen thin fit. Perfect grip. Doesn't add weight and adds very little width. Because of the grip it makes the phone much easier to use one handed. Especially with dry hands.

Personally I put a case to improve the handling. So I try to get a good balance between "width + weight + dry hands grip".
Naked has the best width and weight (and look). But I can't use the phone aggressively when my hands go dry because it becomes too slippery.

Definitely to each his own. I had the P4 now that was slippery! I almost dropped it multiple times and got a thin case for the duration. I don't think this one is slippery at all which is why I'll continue to stay naked for a while at least. First drop case goes on. I'm just amazed how comfortable the device is and how light.

Has anyone tried heating the gap with a hair dryer to soften up the adhesive and pushing the screen down all the way?

I saw somewhere that someone clamped their's down with those metal paper lips and it stayed... Maybe o. Reddit. I also saw where someone heated theirs and put it in a case and closed it.

As shown in this teardown video, how the phone is assembled. Although it sucks if that the adhesive is coming off, I'd agree it seems it would be easy to heat it up and clamp it back down, or at worst, the seal wouldn't be compromised even if it is separating slightly.

As annoying as it is, it seems like a relatively easy fix if the screen is heated all around and popped back in place. Anything is better than getting a refurb that is going to show up with a locked bootloader.

So if my phone gets messed up after 2 minutes from sitting in a bowl of 5cm of water, then I think I have a valid case for full refund/replacement.
Water damage is not covered under any standard manufacturer warranty.

There is a safer way to do the testing.

I've put together an app that lets you test your phone's IP67/IP68 water resistance seals without dunking it in water. This will both help people have confidence in their phones' water resistance capabilities while also giving a way for people to hold manufacturers and repair shops accountable.

This app works by using the barometer built in to your phone. Do note that the seals can become compromised with drops and device aging - keep your phone away from all liquids!

    Download from the Play Store:

    Demo videos:

    • Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra US (factory water resistance, intact):
    • Samsung Galaxy A32 5G US (no factory water resistance):
    • Google Pixel 2 (factory water resistance, intact):
    • Google Pixel 3 XL (factory water resistance intact, and also tested with SIM tray removed):

No problem here. Definitely your phone is not waterproof.
    It's a new phone, I wouldn't accept this if I were you.
    Let them fix/replace it.
