I just got mine in the US and I was searching for the screen gap, and I noticed it.
So, would you tell me if this is normal or should I return it?

Mine is pretty much the same. I keep a spigen slim case on it and it hasn't created any problems with me. It has gotten wet more than I can count and hasn't been an issue.

As you may see from the recent replies, many have said that they got their pixels without any gaps, So I'm just confused whether they mean they had the gap as it is supposed to be (stated by Google) or no gap at all

That looks better than some but my Pixel had no gap at all and I believe that's what others meant by saying they had no gap. Google stated that it was supposed to be there to cover their butts because there are many phones that don't have that gap. LOL, that would make the phones with no gap defective.

Honestly, mine came with a tiny gap at the corners (I can "squint" through them), smaller than yours. I thought, damn it, at first, but I'll still keep it. Not saying Google did a good job there, especially claiming it's supposed to be like that (lol). But does it affect functionality? No. Does it affect the looks of the phone? No, even if I didn't use a case around it, when would I or someone else ever notice it at the occasional glance over the phone?

Then again of course, everyone is in their right to send it back and try another.

Just came across this thread, got my P5 10 days ago from Three UK and mine has a slight gap all around the device, it's very hard to see but it's there. Got the Google case on mine so only saw it after taking it off and not sure what to do now.

I'm keeping an eye on this so that I can buy the 5 again when they fix the problem. But it looks like they choose to address it like it was an intentional design.
I love how they state it won't effect the water and dust resistance when neither of those are covered by warranty.
The topic is dead and Google "won" since it's now phone of the year and nobody cares about the defect.

That's not really so. Lots of people care about the gap and have sent their phones back like you did. Some might have gotten deals with headphones and decided to get a case and forget about it. But I for one would never have kept a device with an obvious flaw no matter what any snake oil salesman said. The US versions were mostly fine with some exceptions. First thing I did before I even took off the plastic was check the gap. There was none. Besides, the phone of the year was the one without the gap! ;-)

Getting my second Pixel 5 in a few days. Fingers crossed for correct assembly this time.

Mine also has a very subtle gap on the top left side (where the camera is), which you have to squint in order to see.

I bothers me because I know it's there, but I would probably not have noticed it if it wasn't for this thread. I don't feel it affects the functionality or the waterproofing, at least for the time being.

So if my phone gets messed up after 2 minutes from sitting in a bowl of 5cm of water, then I think I have a valid case for full refund/replacement.
Water damage is not covered under any standard manufacturer warranty.

There is a safer way to do the testing.

I've put together an app that lets you test your phone's IP67/IP68 water resistance seals without dunking it in water. This will both help people have confidence in their phones' water resistance capabilities while also giving a way for people to hold manufacturers and repair shops accountable.

This app works by using the barometer built in to your phone. Do note that the seals can become compromised with drops and device aging - keep your phone away from all liquids!

Download from the Play Store:

Demo videos:

  • Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra US (factory water resistance, intact):
  • Samsung Galaxy A32 5G US (no factory water resistance):
  • Google Pixel 2 (factory water resistance, intact):
  • Google Pixel 3 XL (factory water resistance intact, and also tested with SIM tray removed):

No problem here. Definitely your phone is not waterproof.
    It's a new phone, I wouldn't accept this if I were you.
    Let them fix/replace it.
