I think this whole rumor of Asus fixing N7 started with this some random online store John Lewis in Europe said so. For all we know this random site could be just BSing us because they don't have N7 in their inventory.
Random Online store!!!!

Effing cheek! I didn't know the internet existed in 1864, when John Lewis was founded. It is an upmarket department shop with a Royal Warrant. Does your beloved Maceys (mid range department shop) have a Royal Warrant?

Don't start with the English Mr Philistine just don't!

For those (like myself) that have no idea what a Royal Warrant is, here is an explanation.

Royal warrants of appointment have been issued for centuries to those who supply goods or services to a royal court or certain royal personages. The warrant enables the supplier to advertise the fact that they supply to the royal family, so lending prestige to the supplier. Several royal families allow tradesmen to advertise royal patronage, including those of the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Belgium, Thailand, Denmark and Sweden.

Suppliers continue to charge for their goods and services – a warrant does not imply that they provide goods and services free of charge. The warrant is typically advertised on company hoardings, letter-heads and products by displaying the coat of arms or the heraldic badge of the royal personage as appropriate. Underneath the coat of arms will usually appear the phrase "By Appointment to…" followed by the title and name of the royal customer, and then what goods are provided. No other details of what is supplied may be given.

I'm on my 3rd nexus 7.
1st went back due to screen lift about 1mm. C70
2nd went back today, screen lift & missing screws on the left hand side, 2 loose screws on right side & finger prints on the copper sheilds, poor build by Asus. C80
Latest one has no screen lift (yet) C80

Fingers crossed for this one.

I picked up a Nexus 7 yesterday from Office Depot. Its a C80 unit and I dont seem to be having any of the issues being talked about here. Anyone want me to check anything specific?

I've been asking people with C8s to check for screen lift using a simple test. Apologies if you've done this already.

The easiest way to inspect the left side is to look from the right. Hold the device with the right side facing you and look across the screen so the left bezel becomes a silver horizon. If the black display is higher at any point, it will interrupt that silver line.

Here is an example of a flush screen, looking across the device from the right side.

As best I can tell, I am not seeing any screen lift on mine.

My C8 looks pretty good but honestly if you gotta do this horizon test just to tell if your N7 has screen lift then it probably isnt worth sweating. Who was the person that determined this was a flaw anyway lol. I understand the folks with screens clearly sticking up over the bezel to the point where you can see the side of the screen, but man using this horizon test just to tell if you have the slightest bit of lift seems a bit much IMO.

pxlitup been on a mission from the screen separation gods to preach the word of screen separation on every thread.

I went on my own mission to find a perfectly flat screen. After the 5th N7 at various Walmart and staples I've came to the conclusion no N7 will be perfectly flat they all have a slight lift towards the center one the left side.

I agree. I dont think ASUS manufactured these tablets to have a perfectly even screen to bezel ratio lol. Its made out of plastic so its naturally going to bend and flex a little. When I first heard of screen lift I couldnt stop laughing when I saw how infuriated some people were that their screens failed the horizon test ever so slightly. I would love to know who was the guy that started all this screen lift mess. I guarantee most of them would never have noticed it had someone not posted it on these forums. Anybody with a Kindle, iPad, or Nook care to do a horizon test and see if the screen is ever so slightly raised anywhere around the bezel?

I agree, most of the reported "Screen lift problems" are not screen lift, and not a problem.

Almost as bad as the folks that open their unit and RMA it because Asus decided leaving two screws out was better.

Folks, Apple is right around the corner, and you will be happier with an IPad.

I know I will be happier seeing less imagined complaints here...

Maybe you're right. Maybe these screens can tolerate more flex than I've been led to believe.

But accuracy is a good thing, so we should be using the most reliable method of inspection regardless.

Who was the person that determined this was a flaw anyway lol.
ASUS has yet to acknowledge it, but if you ask Google Support if a little separation is normal they will tell you to RMA it.

Here are a few reports that might indicate that a loose screen is a serious structural weakness.

Cracked screen... will ASUS fix it?

Nexus 7 screen cracks easily

The "it's broken already" thread

Maybe asking people if their freshly unboxed Nexus 7 has screen lift or not is a little pointless. After all, the sample isn't large enough.

But you're not making that argument. Instead, you're saying that we should be checking for it less effectively.

I agree. I dont think ASUS manufactured these tablets to have a perfectly even screen to bezel ratio lol. Its made out of plastic so its naturally going to bend and creak a little. When I first heard of screen lift I couldnt stop laughing when I saw how infuriated some people were that their screens failed the horizon test ever so slightly.
Did you hear that everyone?

Preston is offering to trade his Nexus 7 with a perfectly flush screen to an xda member with minor lift (flawless otherwise).

Provided you'll cover the shipping. PM him for details.

^^^ You clearly have issues that are far more serious than your quest to find a perfectly flat N7. Who said this "horizon test" is a valid method of determining if the screen is separating from the frame? Maybe the bezel or the frame is uneven and not exactly 100% true. Who is to say it will get worse? Have fun obsessing over a bezel.....

Anyway....

If I were ASUS I would just start painting the bezels black so people couldnt use this horizon test to determine if they have a defective unit. The only way you would be able to tell if your unit had screen lift is if the screen was "clearly" raised above the bezel and the side of the screen was actually visible to the naked eye. That to me is "screen lift".

Has there been any reports of someone finding a c90 yet? I've decided to wait until the next batch. If they aren't any better then, I can wait for an infinity or something comparable to drop in price. The n7 should stop prices of a lot of tablets seeing as the specs to price point is so large.

That reminds me, simple question here. Why would Asus be so worried about quality of this device if it threatens their flagship transformer line of tablets? Think about it, i haven't read many bad reviews of any tablets from the transformer line. Yet the nexus is dawned with problems. Both are made by Asus? Kind of a coincidence isn't it? Why threaten their high end with this low cost model with nice specs?

Probably not yet considering its only the second day of Sept and a C90 unit would have been manufactured this month. Give it a few weeks and they will start popping up.

BS, my first C6 that had a bad battery was perfectly flush compared to the last four I exchanged, no lift or play whatsoever. There are good units out there, if you can find a monkey that made one
Im not saying they dont exist im saying I dont think its required for them to be completely straight like some people are hoping for. Go and buy a pair of $200 Jordans, some will have a piece of thread sticking out, others wont, some stitching may be closer to the edge than others etc. My point is some units will still fall within tolerance yet not be perfectly straight.
