I accidentally flash recovery.img to fastboot and that makes me cannot get into fastboot mode when pressing power+volume up. And with the device on, i can't flash the correct fastboot.img, it just say <waiting for device>

test this:
fastboot by issuing following command: "adb reboot fastboot"
or to recovery: "adb reboot recovery"

It can access recovery but only from "adb reboot recovery", but i already fixed my zenfone by doing "adb sideload" using CUCC rom.
And then by following the tutorial in youtube(search for "[Tutorial] How to Flash ASUS Zenfone 5 CN/TW to WW Firmware [English]" by Pandawill, sorry can't post link, still newbie), i already have WW rom, although i still didn't get the OTA update for latest update.

I managed to update by changing the name of the WW rom into CUC. Thanks for your help.
i'm happy to read your posts, i have the same rom as you had and i have some questions as this is a rom that falls besides all other standards and i just don't wanna mess up and be sure what to do before i begin.

so i have 2 questions at this point.
1) which roms did you use for the process.
the lowest CUCC's are 1.17.40.17 so we can't go any lower but the same is oke too i understand. but than there is no 1.17.40.17 WW rom, there is only 1.17.40.16 or 1.17.40.19.. so which should i take for the WW rom.

2. what's with the answer of fastbone: have you unlocked your bootloader via official ASUS unlock tool?
this is like chinese for me.. do i need to unlock a bootloader? and ifso how and with what asus unlock tool.

3, yep and extra question.

i would reaaaaaaally appreciate it if you could assist me through the process a little if possible. i'm completely at this, besides reading about every forum on this topic that there is but i don't think i follow everything. oke after i start things will come and it will most likely be not as difficult as it seems but i really can't afford to lock up or have other permanent software issues.

also some general questions...

1) wat is mode android mode, recovery mode and fastboot mode intended for just to get the idea?

2) buttons on the 6 are different that the 5, (power-up button is below the volume button) still use the same functions for the same actions?
3) for Zenfone 6, still l use bit.ly/z5root and bit.ly/z5driver (prosume so but just to be sure)

4) can this be done at all from a linux (ubuntu) machine? as i don't have an active windows wachine besides a windows server 2012 which is (strange but true) completely stand alone and i rather not get any extra software on it as it is for a very specific use. but if necessairy i'll just reformat afterwards and re install. after all it's just server 2012..

kind regards matthieu

I have the same problem. I can't access to droid boot after wrong manipulation with adb. I have full access to my phone but I don't know how change my CUCC Rom to WW without fastboot.
Can you give me more information, please ? Step by step

Thanks

Flash the wrong fastboot.img

Hi i need some help, for mistake i flash a wrong fastboot.img and now i can't enter to fastboot from "Power + Volume Up", my zenfone is working but it's still the CUCC ROM, i want the WW ROM.

i try some solutions to use fastboot again and any one works:
I try a ADB SIDELOAD of a ROM, ADB REBOOT FASTBOOT, ADB REBOOT RECOVERY, ADB REBOOT BOOTLOADER, i try to use FLASH_IMAGE through ADB SHELL with SU permissions to flash a recovery.img and give an error of "libcutils.so" so i cant flash any img.

Nothing Works.

Can anyone help me???

Thanks in Advance.

few questions

After many many tries i found a way to convert my CUCC edition to WW.

This way should work for any Edition.

1.) Install ADB & USB Drivers
2.) Download recovery image (version should be smaller or equal to desired rom)
3.) Boot to fastboot mode (Power + Vol Up)
4.1) flash fastboot.img from original desired rom zip (fastboot flash fastboot fastboot.img)
4.2) flash recovery image (fastboot flash recovery xyz.img)
5.) reboot to fastboot again
6.) launch recovery from fastboot
7.) upload firmware (adb sideload xyz.zip)
8.) wipe cache
9.) reboot

Thanks for your post,
I still having issues to understand those steps, could you be a little more specific, like using copy to and all those things, because or put the steps using a firmwere as an example, like software Image: V1.17.40.17 (CUCC) to any ww like Version V1.16.40.50(WW) because I'm really lost if I have to rename something or put the zip file into the sd or something like that... Thank you

IT WORKS!

It totally works :D thanks dude :D

but i have a question now, when i installing the firmware, my phone tell me this
"please upgrade to latest 4.3 first"
i update from 1.11.40.1 directly to 2.20.40.13.

well at first i thought the update would be failed when i see that message, but the update still continued.
and to my surprise the update finish, now the phone running at android 4.4.2.

the phone seems working fine, (at least for now) but that message still bugging me.
soooo did you think i need to do anything concerning that message???
