hello, it sounds like you don't have recovery installed on your phone...
Try to flash the recovery.
Extract the recovery.img from the zip of your firmawre, then go to droidboot, plug you phone to your PC,
then from you PC, using fastboot to flash the recovery (type fastboot flash recovery xxx.img (xxx = name of the file of your extected recovery)

Thank you very much!!
its work now you the best! :good:

It will not brick if you do it right
It seems that you on WW(World wide) firmware and using ASUS T00F (same like mine :D )

Yes it will be safe if you download the update from official asus website
And go Google on how to manual update its easy to do.

Sent from my ASUS_T00F using XDA Free mobile app

Are you from Malaysia? I am also from Malaysia. Man... I wish you can guide me how to update this phone. :(
Are you using manual style to update the phone

i suggest you to update by going into settings-->about-->system update--check update
it will let you know to download or not
download it and system will instruct you what to do after downloading

seriously??
how come you don't even know the SKU of your zenfone?
and you are on the very old version of firmware(zenfone users got kitkat update also)
go to settings-->about-->system update
here you will see build number..under this you will see whats your SKU is(WW or TW or CHT)

This is my first time using Android phone, this is my old phone. I know nothing about the ecosystem of Android. ^^;;
[Edit]
I have did everything you said, but the phone says "Your system is up-to-date"

no problem buddy now i can tell you how to update manually
first of all look out for your SKU(goto settings-->about-->system update-->software information...........here you will see build number......under that build number you will see text like thisASUS_T00J_WW-user-x.xx.xx.xx.18)
as i said above look out for the text as i highlighted above
there will be WW or TW or CHT
after finding out your SKU(ww or tw or cht) head to asus official website http://www.asus.com/Phones/ZenFone_5_A500CG/HelpDesk_Download/
select OS as android and in the next page click on firmware and look out for phone modelT00F/J and the SKU
download the update package from there and now head to my post where i clearly explained how to apply updates manually here is the link http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/help/root-zenfone-5bootloader-unlock-recovery-t2896589
make sure you install
adb, fastboot drivers
intel mobile usb drivers
asus usb drivers
before applying update manually

and sorry am not from malaysia ;)

What version of Xposed is safe to install without the use of ADB or bootloops?

i have been using xposed with many modules right from the day i rooted my zenfone 5
am using V2.6
and by the way no need to do that whole process over CMD
initially i got soft reboots problem but a full factory reset solved that problem n clean install gave no issues till now

---------- Post added at 06:20 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:11 PM ----------

can you post some screen shots? :D

sorry to say that i messed up with my system because of some modules(not because of htkthememanager) so i had to perform factory reset
lost all that module and theme but it worked for me
i think you are not believing or may be you are afraid of bootloops
sorry for being helpless but it worked for me
:good: :good:

Hi to all. I own zenfone5 2GHZ/16GB rooted and been using latest 4.3 rom. I've tried KK but went back.
I am using DU Battery Saver/DU speed booster without decreasing processor power
Install cool tool pro to check live battery consumption
Also defined in Android Tuner to use CPU on demand profile, use low light screen definitions
After restart screen/wifi on i get a power consumption of 133mA-364mA
Can you apreciate on this values?
Thanks in advance.

Wakeup tracker disabled in Greenify. Causes soft boots on my handset.

Hi guys, I'm not sure if this is the right place to post about this - sorry in advance.

I received my Zenfone 5 today (I'm in the UK) from a UK eBay seller. I was surprised to see the packaging was all in Chinese. I started downloading my apps back from the play store and noticed I kept getting permission prompts (allow/decline access) about apps being downloaded. This makes some apps unusable - as soon as I open Whatsapp this prompt keeps popping up and wont go away every time I click allow or decline. I've also noticed that SuperSU is on the phone so I assume I was not the first person to use the phone.

Anyway, I excitedly performed a system update search and was told there are no updates available. This is the current software build number:

ASUS_T00F_WW_user_9.17.40.16_20190811_0963
release-keys
010175_201901130121

Also says the last update was done on 01-01-1970.

Confused by this, I downloaded the latest SKU WW kitkat update from the Asus website and tried to sideload it into my phone using adb. I got this error: "signature verification failed".

I really don't know what to do now guys. I just want to enjoy the phone and update to kitkat, I tried my best :( Hopefully you guys will understand this more than me - I've exhausted myself google searching for help the past few hours. Thanks in advance for any help!

sorry for your Zenfone
signature verification failed??
may be the one who used before had a CHT SKU(you said that everything is in chineese right??) and he/she might have changed it to WW SKU(yes changing SKU can be done)
so what i say you is try downloading the kitkat update of CHT SKU from asus website and try updating with that package

The system itself is not in chinese, but the packaging (box and booklets) are. Also, the app permissions section in Settings is written in bad English. This phone is definitely a Chinese import.

I've tried your suggestion and got the following error:

Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
Installing update...
Device image SKU:
CN
OTA image SKU: CHT
assert failed: getprop("ro.build.asus.sku") == "CHT"
return code 8E:Error in tmp/update.zip
(Stratus 8)
E: fota_return_code 403
Installation aborted.
E:Cannot load volume /misc!

I really appreciate the help. I hope this issue can be solved, I'm really looking forward to downloading KitKat and Android L in future.

Looks like the previous owner "tried" to replace CN with WW, and made a big mess.

Fortunately for you, there should be a way to permanently untangle this mess. Please refer to Post #15.

Basically, you need to downgrade to an earlier version of the rom(namely CN 1.14), where the build.prop signature is not checked. You can then permanently change the signature by flashing WW rom(WW1.14) over it. Thereafter, you should be able to upgrade the device, as if it were WW all along.

Alternatively, you might be able to just change CN to WW in build.prop and try to upgrade again. If I were you, I'd choose the longer way (downgrading to CN 1.14). Always better to start with a clean slate.

I'm not familiar with the terminology used, but all I've tried to do it install the recent OTA update :)

Thanks you! I'll refer to that post now and see what I can do. I'll update here after my efforts.

EDIT: I'm not really sure what I'm doing. I've downloaded xposed looking at the post. al I able to downgrade to CN 1.14 in recovery mode as i've tried with the new OTA update?
