2015-February-18: Hi everyone, I know a lot of you here from Asia Countries, so HAPPY LUNAR NEW YEAR! Are you ready for Zenfone 2nd generation? Features rich, stronger, bigger, and cheap in price. As for my 1st Zen5, I am still happy witth my 4.3 firmware. Stable, no problem, battery life great with Greenify Experiment version. Kitkat is still being trouble here and there, etc... UPDATE 2014 Aug 6: For FW ver. 1.14, when you flash from CN 1.14 to WW 1.14, you device SKU will also be changed from CN to WW permanent. Going backward, I have not tested yet, but who care? To check you device SKU, it shows in DroidBoot.

*** Hi everyone, I am starting this threat and try to gather all info. that I have about these great Asus phones. If you have Asus Zenfone 5 (Intel only) and Zenfone 6, then this threat is for you. Please note that this threat DO NOT SUPPORT Zenfone 4 and DO NOT SUPPORT Zenfone 5 LTE.

*** If you have CN Asus and the firmware is CN 1.14 and below, DO NOT upgrade to 1.15 and 1.16 if you want to convert to WW firmware. WW firmware is the only firmware that contains the Google Apps, and do not have Chinese apps. But if you have CN 1.15 and CN 1.16 and you want WW firmware, then you have to downgrade your firmware back to at least 1.14. If you have 1.14 or lower CN, To convert firmware from CN to WW, simply download WW firmware, extract the file zip inside , then rename the file by replacing WW to CN, then you are good to go.

*** How to enter droidboot: Phone must be turned off first. Press only power button, after 2 seconds still holding power button and now hold the volume up, when the ASUS logo shows, release the power button while still holding the volume up 5 seconds. Now enter droidboot.

*** How to enter recovery directly without go through droidboot: Phone must be turned off first. Press only power button, after 2 seconds still holding power button and now hold the volume down, when the ASUS logo shows, release the power button while still holding the volume down 5 seconds, Now you see android logo with belly up. Still holding the volume down, now press volume up (1 or 2 times), you are now in recovery.

*** Root for Zenfone: TURN OFF DATA, TURN OFF WIFI. TURN ON AIRPLANE
Download the file RootZenFone-1.2r.apk below, install it, then open app, choose first option SuperSU. When it finished, restart the phone. ENJOY! (The DEMO should show up, DO NOT TOUCH anything, just restart the phone!)
UPDATED: root 1.3r was out. ALSO BOTH NOT WORKING ON FW 1.17
*** How to fix the DEMO in case of accident: This is also do factory reset, so all data will be lost.
A. Factory reset, if not try B.
B. Get into the demo main screen (Padfone infinity), hold the back button on the screen for more than 15 seconds(bottom left of 3 button: back, home, recent apps) until the box shows up, type in 741603 and confirm! This is also do factory reset, so all data will be lost.

*** Install Xposed: Root is a MUST. USB debug turned on. Windows only and Driver for Intel and ASUS must be ready on PC.
Step1: download xposed apk and install the apk. DO NOT RUN APP AND DO NOT INSTALL FRAMEWORK.
Step2: Run command promt (Run / cmd). assume adb folder is on C:\ drive and you are now in C:\ADB
Step3: Type following (or copy and paste)

adb devices (make sure your phone show!)
adb shell (hit Enter)
su (hit Enter, then look on your phone and touch OK)
echo 148 > /data/data/de.robv.android.xposed.installer/conf/jit_reset_offset (hit Enter)
chmod 664 /data/data/de.robv.android.xposed.installer/conf/jit_reset_offset (hit Enter)

Step4: Now go to app drawer and run Xposed which you installed earlier. Touch "Framework" and touch "Install/Update"
DONE. Now install addons.

Absolutely safe.
1. Just download the WW 1.16
2. extract the .zip file inside the downloaded.
3. Check droidboot to see you phone SKU is CN or WW. If it is WW then NO need to change the WW to CN, upgrade directly.

Im having the same problem with you, my phone now is soft brick. any idea?

I read in another thread that you can't update directly to 1.16. Try again with WW 1.15

U cant flash the from from CN to WW in v15/16 cause they already write a sript to checking your sku in your device build.prop.. if you editing the script thats will make the rom signature broken. theres 2 way to trying, first editng your build.prop change sku CN to WW or using v14 (this version haven't sku verification). iam away from pc canot show u the script

Would you tell us step by step what had you been done with your phone so far? Starting with original fw# with CN/TW/WW, then ...

Then try to upgrade to CN 1.14 first, then download 1.14 WW and change its name ww to CN, then upgrade that file, your phone device sku then should also be changed from CN to WW permanent, then you can officially upgrade to higher version of WW without any problem, without changing name also. It happened on my phone. (CN 1.15 ---> CN 1.14 ---> WW 1.14 --> WW 1.16)

It's in English language, I already installed and tried it. Works on latest firmware update (WW).
my adb is in C:\adb. yep i did all that but in the echo ad chmod its say no such file or directory... I used the latest xposed version (2.6.1)
Can u please upload here ur version on xposed?

Who is your provider? If you are in US, remember, it is good for ATT (UMTS 850/1900) and part of T-Mobile (UMTS refarmed 1900). Not working for T-Mobile AWS (2100 is there, but 1700 is missing)

i have vodafone, czech republic. i just managed to make it work, had to manually add the APN but for some reason the phone always forgets the settings - or did it before, will see how it works with 1.16. it works now (yay!), so hopefully it was the last issue with my phone for some time now lol.

so if I understand well so if I have CN rom version 1.16 so I have to update the older CN > CN 1.15 then >1.14 and then 1.16 WW I can upload? (Which definetly rename the UL-ASUS_T00F-CN-1.16.40.7-user.zip?)
is it so? I just always when recording starts earlier version rom error ro.build.date.utc 1392739200
