Hi there,

Can I see thoses information(production batch, manufactured date or enven imei number) on the box? so that I can get the newest version.

Consider buying the newest batch from Radio Shack or Target since the Amazon wireless has extra fee for canceling mobile service within 181 days.

Well, having purchased my phone on launch day, I know it falls into that IMEI range. I wonder if this would make getting a replacement any easier?

Where'd you find this?
Not necessarily.

I purchased my phone at an ATT store.....3 days before official launch and my IMEI is not within that range....my last 4 #'s are over 6000.

You can find your imei multiple ways:

1. on the label under your battery.
2. If you registered phone with samsung site you can login and it will show with your account info.
3. Use apps. (SGS Tools, SGS Toolbox, and ID are all apps that will show your IMEI) ps- if you have flashed custom roms you may see a generic imei rather than your actual ID so battery label the most foolproof evidence of your imei.

Samsung has released an imei range for the problematic random shut down phones. If the last 4 numbers of your imei is lower than 5394 then your phone will have the shutdown problem eventually. SAMSUNG has found that all captivates manufactured before November 6th 2010 have this defect. This press release was published on Dec 20th

Date Published: December 20, 2010
Manufacturer(s): Samsung
Model(s): i897 (Captivate)
Issue Type: Informational

Issue Summary

AT&T and Samsung are working together on a power off issue on the Samsung i897 Captivate. There is a small group of Samsung i897 Captivate devices which may experience power off when in standby mode. All devices manufactured after November 6, 2010 should not have this issue. Most customers are not expected to see an issue, however the following IMEI range could potentially have the issue and AT&T and Samsung want to ensure these customers have the best possible experience and quickly address customer care inquiries should they arise:

IMEIs manufactured before November 6, 2010: 352982040855394 or lower - 5393, 5392, etc.

If customers reports that their device is powering off when in standby mode please assist them with exchanging their device.

Yours likely starts with 351, like mine... I got mine launch day, too.

Is it possible to have the last 4 numbers higher than 5394 and still get random reboots?

(as mine certainly does)

Whats the return policy like in this case?

It's always possible if you're flashing custom ROM's. Also if you go to Settings-about Phone-Status you can find your IMEI number. Mine is quite low with the last four digits being 0629. I bought my phone from best buy, I'll give them a call today and see if they'll give me a new one.

Now thats interesting

Well My old phone fell into this range, and had random shutdowns, but the warranty refuse to replace it stating it was something I installed, Well I got my replacement phone (after It bricked) and wouldn't you know it, GPS works too.

Waiting for the next press release....

Hi Guys,

I am new to this forum. My IMIE starts with 3518 but ends with 7xxx. I am wondering if it also falls under the affected range. On Samsung's website, it says the production date of my phone is 7/01/2010.

Has anyone had experience getting the phone replaced after this press release? Hopefully it'll not be refurbished and won't take a couple weeks like I've been hearing.

Thanks!
Arthur

So does this mean we can get a new phone or will it still be a refurbished phone?
Very curious about this as well. My phone is within the range and I have had only 1 or 2 shutdowns. I did manage to get a nice big scratch on my screen though, so it would be nice to get that fixed. That said, I don't want to take the risk of a refurb that is not unlocked and has a much worse gps than mine (at least if its new, there is a chance the gps will be better!)

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

its not clear whether they are referencing any imei's outside of the 352 (first three letters) IMEI.

Yes, I did read that. It seems like people were only looking at the last 4, when the article seems to suggest lower than 352982040855394, and they gave examples of it.

Mine started with 3518, so it's certainly lower than an IMEI that starts with 3529...

yep starts with

351

1007 build

last 4 fall between 6000-7000

haven't experienced a random shutdown to date.

phone purchased 6/15.

from their notice its not really clear whether our 351 starting phones fall under.

Just another thought, has anyone seen any evidence that this is legit? I was just searching around on AT&T's site and they only have a single Press Release dated 12/20/2010 and that is about buying wireless spectrum from Qualcom.

I find it very clear. The official notice (not the summary) says IMEI below 352.... made before nov...
The last 4 is more for an example because many are bad at big math. 351 is less then 352 and made before november so anyone that bought at launch could be affected.
I want to see a link to the doc so I can reference it.

i am not as convinced in their ability to do anything in a clear and competent manner.

its not unrealistic that this notice is intended to refer to only models starting with 352 in which case would be interpreted to cover phones between 352000000000000 and 352982040855394

I talked with a support rep a few minutes ago.

When I mention the issue ID, she said to contact AT&T warranty exchange: 1-800-801-1101

I just got off a chat where the rep denied that he had ever seen this bulletin, but after checking my IMEI said my phone was defective and needed to be replaced. He did ask about the color and shape of a sticker in the battery compartment, and said that square white sticker in my phone is what he was looking for.
