I guess 3rd time is a charm. Both the compass and the GPS work perfectly. Now the GPS will not lose signal when the cell tower/signal changes.
There's no connection between the GPS and the cell tower, unless the phone just happens to be downloading a new AGPS listing as the tower switches, and then it should throw the new (and corrupted) data out. Standalone GPS should work fine even if the AGPS data isn't immediately available. (AGPS only affects Time To First Fix.)

From what I'm seeing in this and a few other threads, there are a ton of quality control issues to be straightened out here. This GPS works, but the 3G/4G switching doesn't. This one works fine, but the receive sensitivity is poor. Etc., etc. This phone seems to have been designed by the marketing department, with only minimal (if any) input from engineering.

Confirmed!

I have tested the GPS signal loss on my Samsung galaxy note 3. Several times now. It was losing signal always in the same spot on the route. I watched and noticed loss of signal was when switching between 4G and 4G LTE. I'm not sure if this is a hardware or software issue. But I'm pretty confident at this point this is the issue.

I was able to fix the GPS signal loss problem by turning off location services on other apps like weather.com. Once locations services was disabled on a few other apps the navigation worked perfectly.

Unless you have a hardware issue, losing cell signal does not equate to loss of GPS since GPS signal comes directly from satellites. Perhaps it was happening in the same spot because you are going through a bad spot that is obscuring LOS to the GPS satellites AND the cell tower... perhaps an area with tall, dense trees or buildings?

No tall buildings or dense trees. Actually to the left is a golf course in one of the spots. Always when the phone switched between 4g and 4g LTE. I don't have an explanation but I know turning off location services for other apps stopped it from happening.

I had the exact same problem but after reinstalling the rom it seems to work fine again

I am not sure what the issue was. For me on my 2 old phones I could force the issue when using the phone command *#*#4636#*#* and changing the signal to any type. Even from 4G LTE to gsm only it would lose signal. I have even re flashed the rom via Kies to see if it was a software fluke...but no avail.

On my new phone you can force change signal (4g, 4G lte, gsm), but it will not lose lock on gps satellites like the 2 previous note 3 phones. I'm not sure what the issue is. Samsung quality control sucks because it appears several phone on other networks have the same issue.

Guys. My warranty replacement does not have GPS issues. AT ALL. I used it all day today and not once did I lose signals. It has to be radio ver 2-2 T Notes. Take your back fake leather cover off and look for yours. TT 1-1 Note 3 with TT 4-4 Radio is perfection

Thank you so much for posting this hint of info. I currently have the Note 1 with garbage GPS performance so I came to this thread seeing if there was an improvement in the Note 3. After reading your post I searched for the thread in which you referenced (here). My GPS locks within seconds from inside my home (which was only a mere fantasy prior to this fix).

Thanks for saving my from taking any chances on the Note 3. Hopefully some Note 1 users get the same help I did from reading this.

In the Note 1, there was actually a hardware hack whereby you pry up the antenna contact pins for the GPS from the main board. It worked even better (or stayed working) if you wedged something small underneath the contacts forcing them to make better contact with the antenna leads.

Has anyone dared take apart their Note3 yet to see if a similar issue exists with this handset?

So update. I got a replacement from att and it seems a little better at locking but not like the s4 or note 2 I had before. I'm not sure if I'm going to just suck it up or call back bitching again.

I also got a replacement from at&t. It doesn't have the problem. Awesome. On the back with the back cover removed, I suppose the top right corner is where the GPS antenna is. The part has a "-4" instead of "-2"as on my old note 3. I think someone mentioned that's a good antenna. Anyway get a replacement if your GPS signal is dropping and navigation does not automatically regain the signal back.

Me and a couple guys I know have/had GPS problems with the AT&T Note 3. The problem we seen was not that it wouldn't work. It worked but it will NOT stay locked on a destination. It will stop telling us where to go. I used it with Google Maps and another guy used Waze. I called Samsung and did some bs that didn't work. Even did a factory reset and wasted a bunch of time with that. Finally decided when all that failed to get a replacement. Which not surprisingly FAILED to stay locked too. I didn't have hope when AT&T said they will send another one but I took it anyway since other than sending it to Samsung I'm not going to get it working. This will be my third AT&T Note 3 and I can finally use the GPS and not worry about it constantly losing the location. Its possible a replacement will not help you. But just like some other people said, a replacement could very well solve the problem.

Not sure if Samsung needs to send a update out to help all those people with a faulty GPS. But they for sure need to do something about the Knox problem. The security warning has come up on every single Note I got.

It's absolutely worth getting a replacement. Mine is flawless. Only took one replacement. I can truly love my note 3 now. Navigation is now solid and it's a must for me.

I just notice this 2 days ago. While driving using google maps, I suddenly/randomly get "GPS Signal Lost". The only way to fix it is toggle off/on gps. I read it's a google map issue. Can anyone confirm this? Anyone else having the same issue?
