We're forgetting one thing: Safety Net, anything that requires it fails. No rooting for me, I'd rather keep all my features, than give up on wireless payments and Pokemon GO.

Wonder if Magisk will work it's way over to the Note 8 side of things to help with that... Think I read somewhere that a safetynet passing tool is already in the works..

Im working on a full root method. Im seeing what this guy was on to. My thoughts are that once I can get to s-boot terminal it should be roses.

The current root method requires an outdated bootloader one that fails to filter out electric noise on aux in my truck when charging also the battery max stuck @ 80% fail along with the fact that it doesn't work at all friendly with my non-standard carrier total wireless. So I'm motivated for a root solution that also comes with a bootloader unlock.

Would buying and using the unlocked version get around the root restriction or would I be facing the same problem?

Only if you buy the international version, which causes other losses in features.

All usa models are bootloader locked and only have a half ass root method. Really no good options for root right now for USA users.

If you read about batteries in todays cell phones they say to get the most out of battery life charge to 80% and dont let drop below 20%. Samfail is ok for now..lol
^buys $900+ phone, nerfs all of its performance for a few root features... And reduce the battery life by %20 but says it's cool?...

This is why there is no root for USA phones anymore, because everyone is "OK" with fake root and halfway devs cash in on bounties for it.
