I do not want to lose the quality I have enjoyed on T-Mobile overall and end up back with ATT's retarded pricing scheme and plans. I am expecting things to go smoothly for the merger though. Business is business but I dont have to like it.

Its not like this merger will take place over night if / once it is fully approved and a signed deal. It will take another year or two beyond that minimum to merge all of us into ATT's network, billing, service, rates plans blah blah blah so we have plenty of time for now to see how it will unfold.

Not too excited

I don't like the idea of two major players merging. I understand large companies buying up smaller ones... but this massive deal is a little scary for the consumers in my opinion.

If the merger does not go through tmob US might be shuttered. Look at all the markets in Europe that dk has divested from. Dt does not have the money to support tmob USA. Let's see pre merger att has the most spectrum of any us carrier after merger they will greatly increase that number. With all that spectrum available you will see even faster hspa+ speeds because now you have a lot more towers. LTE will also be available in a lot more places then previously with less money to build out and expand the system.

In the world its been proven that its the survival of the fittest. Verizon has merged with multiple companies as has att prior to the merger. So has Sprint. This time around Sprint gets absorbed by a bigger company. If you haven't noticed there has been a lot of Sprint/Google intergration. Could we be seeing a Google takeover of Sprint post merger? If so that puts Sprint in a pretty good position to succeed. If the merger does not go through then we will see a Sprint buyout of tmob. Sprint is not in a bad position contrary to popular belief.

There are so many negative views about the merger. If you sit back and think it will improve things for att and tmob. Tmobs 2nd quarter numbers will not be all that bad either. Have you seen their pricing lately? They are damn near paying you to be a customer. Hey tmob is in a good position too if merger is denied they get what 6 billion dollars? To me I see a win win across the board. With two major carriers and a Google/sprint merger I see a very competitive US market. Google has a lot of pull.

History doesn't support one company owning 80% of a market being a good thing for consumers.
good thing that they won't.

This is personally a great thing for me, because in rural areas, AT&T has tons of 3g where TM has edge. AT&T has 4g in my small town (~16k people) where TM only has edge (and slow edge at that.)

It will be huge for us because our existing plan is honored and they will merge the networks so I will have 3g/4g finally!!!

The only thing that really worries me about the buyout (it's not a merger - T-Mobile USA is up for sale, and AT&T is buying) is AT&T's pricing. I'm sure that the service will improve, due to the fact that T-Mobile's towers will be absorbed by AT&T, but I'm sure that the pricing will skyrocket. You think AT&T is expensive now? Wait till they become the only GSM carrier!

My experience with Sprint has been hit and miss when I had a contract with them about 7 years ago, and they don't seem to have improved. My brother in law just signed up with Sprint, and his phone had almost no data signal in my apartment, which is smack in the middle of a supposedly 4G coverage area. The more I think about it, the more appealing Verizon seems. At least I have 2 more years of T-Mobile pricing.

Q2's numbers are going to be a bloodbath. They're going to be down significantly in prepaid customers over their Q1 and VZW, AT&T, and Sprint. Churn is going to be terrible. And the cost per customer acquisition, for the reasons you've said, are going to set new records in the industry. Not one analyst is expecting anything different. We'll know for sure the second week in August.

Att prices have dropped a bit. They are no where near Verizons expensive crap. Lte hands down has amazing speeds but 3g needs to improve. Att and tmobile have the most consistently fast nationwide services. Just wait till att Lte hits the market vzw won't know what hit them. Vzw needs to make their money while they can.

Pricing I'm not.sold that it will go up. Once the merger goes through vzw will be playing catch up and it will be a pissing contest between the two. Att will stay lower then vzw.

If this is the case, or if I'll be able to avoid AT&T's prices by purchasing their phones outright, then I'll consider staying with them. However, they have always dodged the question of whether they will keep T-Mobile's prices for the duration of our existing contracts, or whether they will permanently grandfather all former T-Mobile subscribers who choose to remain with them. Unfortunately, I can envision AT&T requiring all of us to sign up for their contracts in order to access their data network.

I did a side by side comparison of the Verizon and AT&T plans that are the most similar to my current T-Mobile plan. On T-Mobile, I am paying $130/month for a 2 line family plan with 1,000 shared minutes, unlimited messaging, and preferred customer data plans ($20 per line, 5GB unthrottled). The closest thing would cost $170/month on AT&T, and $180/month on Verizon. Although both plans would come with 1,400 shared minutes (it's either 700 or 1,400, and 700 is not really enough), unlimited messaging, and 2GB of data.

Speaking of data, Verizon now charges $50/month for 5GB, and AT&T charges $45/month for the same amount. Talk about a ripoff.

Yeah to escape the cluteches of AT&T and their dropped call and slow net reputation I switched myself and my two kids to Sprint on Sunday (July 10th); got the new Evo 3D for each of us.

WELL... The 3D hurt our eyes and having sprint hurt our heads....LOL Going from where I live (East Side Suburb to Cleveland OH) to where I work (Downtown Cleveland) I would loose internet connectivity 4-5 times. NONE of this is a rural area AT ALL.... I hit 4G in one spot in downtown.

Accessing a YouTube video (RayWilliamJohnson) OF COURSE... ;) on my Sprint phone using 4 G and a co-worker backing his Vibrant down to 3G; his video started (same video) a full 12 seconds before mine, and played through... Mine stopped to buffer twice.

WHAT A JOKE...

I was back with T-Mobile 9:30 am Tuesday.

Honesly I love T-Mobile, they have been flawless for us.

I swithed because of the merger, and Sprint offered to save me 115.00 per month on the three phone plans..

You get what you pay for and I will never make that mistake again.

I will take my chances with AT&T (I did not go into the no net while on a call thing but man that REALLY sucks - so no Verizon either).

AT&T don't screw us... Offer solid service.

i have had tmobile since it was voicestream and my sister has had almost all carriers (except cricket) in chicago and my tmobile service has always won when comparing the networks. even got more bars in basements and didnt have to go to the windows to get service lol. saw a commercial about att and verizon charging extra for data usage after you maxed it out and tmobile caps you but sprint supposedly has truly unlimited. with the merger i almost believed sprint will win in service.

You have to realize, AT&T didn't force T-Mobile in to this deal. Deutsche Telekom sold T-Mobile U.S. because they didn't have the cash to make it competitive and it was under performing financially. And the deal is officially done. It can become undone if it doesn't get U.S. approval but until and unless that happens both companies are preceding toward closing the deal. I'll bet you too that when T-Mobile discloses their Q2 numbers they're going to be bloody. Q1 was awful and that was with no impact from the merger announcement. Q2's results will help justify the need for the merger and most likely accelerate its approval.

AT&T is IMO the worst network period. They have a huge budget but they can not give the Boston area more then 350 kl. DL speed. They call that HSPA+ on their coverage map. On the other hand T-Mobile who has a very small budget can push over 12 MB download with a 3 MB upload. Those are real numbers in the Boston area. This is no small market, I truly hope that the FCC does not give AT&T the approval for this buyout. Hopefully T-Mobile can wake up before it is too late. T-Mobile's 4G footprint increases in size and speed 5 times faster then AT&T, why is that?? You couldn't find AT&T's HSPA+ Network if you drove around and looked for it, reason why is simple, it doesn't exist. :(

Your analysis is spot on. Unfortunately, it's the reason T-Mobile's being sold. Being smaller, their per customer costs are higher. Yet, their prices have to be significantly lower to attract customers. The kind of financial performance that leads to wasn't sustainable for a public company. Sprint's not that much better but they have a much larger base of more profitable corporate business to help their margins.

My guess, and it's only a guess, is that AT&T will let current T-Mobile customers ride out their existing contracts. If there are network changes that require a new handset during the contracted period they'll provide free replacements (probably good, not great equivalents). If people find what's offered unacceptable I'd imagine they'd let them out of their contracts to go somewhere else. Unlike T-Mobile's spin-the-wheel CSR's, AT&T doesn't horse trade or allow individual agents any pricing discretion so their offer(s) are black and white. After that, the new contract would most likely be on AT&T's current terms with a one-time sweetener at signing (in addition to subsidized equipment). Based on T-Mobile's much lower margins I don't see AT&T grand-fathering plans that are less profitable then their own plus throwing new subsidized handsets on top of it. Based on how much larger they'll be then VZW, losing a few million low profit customers (they'll have 130MM, 43% of the market) would be a better long-term alternative then tanking their margins. And Sprint's bitching now but once the deal closes, watch them take their rates up closer to VZW and AT&T. Again, only a guess but I've advised companies on similar stuff and I'd bet I'm pretty close.

That's exactly the case they're making for why they need the merger. Based on the number of customers (AT&T + T-Mobile), and combined density of consolidated frequency and towers, and the saving of cost and time for both T-Mobile and AT&T to evolve their networks (HSPA+ is a stop gap), 1+1=3. In the long-run, both AT&T and VZW will have the best wireless networks in the world which will be great for quality. It won't be great for consumer prices though.

I had TMO when they were voicestream right after they became voicestream from being Omni point. At first voicestream SUCKED as did omni before it. But then they got better. But honestly I have been with tmo for 6 years and have been a loyal customer and always raved about their CS but lately it has really been slipping IMO. I'm already eying sprint. Here in NYC they have a really good network and I dont travel to rural areas often.. we will see.. if the merger goes through, I'm switching for sure
