First you gonna need to download an app called "activity launcher"
After that open the app and tap "activity history". Now tap on "all activities"
Scroll down to settings and tap on it one time. Now scroll down again until you see a bunch of "settings"-options.
Look for the one that says "com.android.settings.NvControlPanel" (example screenshot below in attachments)
Now just tap on that one and you will get straight into the "Shield energy/power control" menu
Long hold on activites to open up a menu where you can create a shortcut to those settings (also example picture below)

BTW: the power control is now much more advanced than it was on kitkat. Just check it out for yourself
Ps: dont worry about the screenshots language. It is just german xD

Here are screenshots from the menus
You now can also set different modes for different apps. For an example for games like real racing 3 you could make that play at max performance while other apps like facebook etc only run in energy saving mode.

Really curious why Nvidia didn't let us have access to this much more advanced settings in the first place :/

somethings not right, when i play games i notice that i set fps limit to 30 but it looks like its at 60 or more... so for me this is not working as my tablet still heats up even if i set to 2 core only and 30 fps limit.. and i did hard reset so i dont know what do try anymore...

Tried setting the performance (battery saving) also had some apps two core 50% for a couple of days, I thought it was working but honestly it really isn't working. The same excess heating is there,

Will test it now. First thing was to set all to battery saving except rr3 to custom with max cores and performance and nvidia tegra services to custom with 2 cores and 50% power. RR3 isn't no more longer lagging like hell and battery loads fine while power on. Hope it will be stable so on ;)

THX for finding this solution

I seemed to remember reading that either Shield Services or Tegra Services was running amok and contributing to the lag in lollipop. I currently have these two services set to use only two cores at 50% Max and the tablet seems much snappier.
