When I visited Samsung service to get motherboard of my phone replaced, they copied "efs.autobackup.img" onto my memory and used that to restore the EFS. Does that mean I have a working back up or I should be backing up anyway?

Doesn't do any harm in backing it up anyway, especially if its so simple with ktool

if the imei is on the box, why cant we just generate it, why do we need to back it up?
also in which cases the file is modified?
and again why it is important if i got an invoice, box and the skills of rooting it?

If everything is ok after flash, is it worth to back it up for next flashes?
I mean, already rooted my stock FW, flashed GB DarkyRom, now running ICS CM9, no issue until now, but I would like to ensure that I won't have any problem with that. My EFS shouldn't be the stock one now, but is it worth to save it?

Thanks :)

what happen if the file in efs folder corrupt?
You can lose service as you loose your emei, depends if provider allows generic emei. If your phone is able to regenerate this. This can also be country specific
You can loose warranty
ota updates wont work anymore.

You can regenerate emei/efs when you dont have backup. But that is generally not legal for silly reasons.

Restore IMEI in EFS folder

No need to fear! If your EFS folder is deleted, your fone is still boot normally. Only IMEI in Settings has change to 00499901...., and Serie number to 00000.
At this point, you have two options:
- If you ever flash Chainfire tools, as Mobile Odin, CWM Manager, ROM Manager, you may have your EFS backed up in SDCard in compressed file with *efs* or *imei* in the names. Extract files nad use Root Explorer to restore your EFS folder (you only need to restore the imei sub-folder and two files: nv_data.bin and nv_data.bin.md5 to EFS folder).
- If you don't have backup, you should work around with the very original stock rom shipped with your Note or, at worse go to SS Service center to restore your imei with the cost of 10$ in my country.

I did back up this quite a while ago and now on longer have it. I have flashed countless roms, modems, kernels etc and not one single issue.

So it is obviously needed to have this backed up for normal operations.

So I read here it may be important for if we sell our note? I'm not selling mine so I have no issue then?

I still have a imie and serial number being shown too..

It rarely happens but it happens.
I had it 2 times for my notes lifetime luckily i have an EFS backup. My friends SGS2 doesnt have EFS backup and had imei unknown and the phone is pretty much useless now that it cant connect to a network.

just wait till a flash locks it or loses your imei, no backup =....

Do a search and you will see lots of people had issues with it. Better safe then sorry m8
