Success. Titanium Backup working. Root Checker verified root as well for good measure.

Thanks so much to everybody who put in the work for this, and especially you mramirezusa!

Trying to do the unlock and then the fix but it's not working and now my phone just keeps going back to Failed to boot, no OS detected, going to RSD mode and then the menu with 1-14. Can't get out of that! I need help. I need clear and precise directions or if my phone is fried!

Update: Could not get it to work! I put it into RSD mode and Ran RSDLite after downloading the Official 2.3.4 from XDA and flashed it. I don't know what I did wrong with this unlock but I'm not doing it again. I got stuck in the Bootloader and couldn't get out. I'm lucky I didn't brick it. When it booted, all of my stuff was still there. I don't know what happened. Please, if you're going to post something like this, put clear directions or post a video. I appreciate all of you work but your directions were not clear.

Mmk, I got through it all, but I can't seem to get root. Not sure what I'm doing wrong.
I first went through and unlocked the bootloader, which seemed to work fine.
I then followed the instructions in the command prompt.

Rebooted my phone, holding down volume down.
Selected Fastboot with Volume up.
Connected phone.
Held Volume down and hit a key and phone reboooted.
Selected android recovery.
It booted into android recovery.
I went into mounts and storage and mounted system and data.
Went back to the menu and clicked reboot.

I did all that and then when it rebooted, I installed superuser and nothing happened. I tried installing Titanium Backup and it said that it was unable to get root access.

After "Super user succesfully installed" did you run the .apk? You have to wait a few seconds, and the select allow SU permits.

@OP

Unlocked/Rooted/Teathered typing on my lapdock....thank you so much!

Would like to mention that after Root and CWM were installed I needed to reboot in order for webtop to work again.... otherwise dock screen would go into a screen saver mode without any input....Not sure why.

Yes I ran Superuser.
I tried to go back to Recovery and see if there was something I missed. I rebooted, held volume down and then selected Android Recovery but it just gave me the android, triangle and exclamation point that I'm sure you're all at least somewhat familiar with. I tried running through the root again and everything happened exact same. I got into the recovery just fine but after the reboot, it wouldn't get in.

How did you get into Android recovery from the triangle ! ?

1. By pressing both volume buttons at the same time?

OR

2. Pressing on an empty part of the screen above the search key?

I didn't get into it from the triangle. I was attempting to get into it and the triangle showed up and I couldn't get it to change so I just force rebooted it by removing the battery.

EDIT: After some further investigation, I think there might have been some kind of an error when it unlocked the bootloader. When I had Superuser running, it told me there was a new binary but was unable to install it so it had to be flashed from recovery. This time it finally let me into recovery(Not sure what I did differently), and I went to flash the zip, but it said the zip was bad. Is this a problem with the bootloader or something else?

I have a quick question. I am getting ready to run this and I wanted to do it after I "factory reset" my phone, so I was wondering is it okay to do this if the phone is completely reset (as in not even signed into Motoblur)???

This is exactly what happened to me. Look back through and find the attachment root.zip mramirezusa posted, download it, put it on your internal sd card, then install it from recovery.

Make sure you put the zip file only onto the phone. I made the rookie mistake of extracting all the internal files rather than the entire zip file the first go around.

So, you HAVE to unlock the bootloader to gain root? I just want root I don't care about bootloaders or custom roms or any of that.
