Thanks for this it was very easy. I wasn't paying attention to the phone so I missed the 5 second window for fastboot but a battery pull gave me another chance. I also had to do another battery pull after the script finished but after that the phone booted and all was good.

Either I'm missing something or something is wrong lol. I don't see anything like that at the bottom of the first page.
if you can boot into fastboot mode, then type in the command 'fastboot oem unlock' in fastboot. you can find fastboot in the development section, or just google 'fastboot motorola atrix' and you'll find it.

it'll give you an ID that is unique to your device, after you see that ID type in the command 'fastboot oem unlock <ENTER ID HERE>' and you will have an unlocked device, then fastboot reboot (i'm not sure if it reboots you automagically or not) and you should have a working Atrix again.

this is all assuming you flashed pudding through this script, and you're stuck at the boot screen with a bunch of text options.

I have a noob question (and sorry if I cross-posted). I posted a similar question on the oneclick root thread...
anyway, my question is, is it necessary to unlock the bootloader in order to flash a custom rom? and what benefits does unlocking the bootloader give?
there was some references in the beginning to 'unlock':

Automatic Root for Unlock users, Automatic CWM for Unlock users,

is this referring to sim unlock or bootloader unlock?

thanks in advance!

Unfortunately, it's not letting me get into fastboot mode.

Does "cant remove error" mean that the install-recovery script is already been removed so every time your boot your phone your recovery partition with the new cwm don't get replaced with stock one

How long does the flashing process take ?

I think I have been stuck at "unlocked" bootloader screen for nearly 40 minutes. Can someone tell me how long this is going to take ? Or if I messed something up ?

I am on Att 2.3.4. This is the first time I am tyring to unlock the bootloader.

Apologies if this has been answered...

When I click on "main" and unplug the phone, etc, then click on my version of android (3), it always skips straight to step 5 and doesn't give me a chance to plug the phone back in. What am I doing wrong?

I'm sorry, I didn't explain that well. I unplug the phone, restart it with the volume rocker up, then press any key (on the computer) to continue (per step one instructions). It then skips to step 5 before I have a chance to plug my phone back in. Am I missing something?

Hey all,

I recently switched and picked up the Motorola Atrix 4G that came loaded with 2.3.4. I used Pete's Tools to root my phone, but I still need to unlock the boot loader so I can start using custom ROM's etc... After going through many threads along with this one I am still confused on what I should use to go about unlocking the boot loader without bricking or doing any damage. Many seem to have problems with this tool listed in this thread, any help would be great!

Softbricked?

I unlocked my atrix with out a problem but when trying to root/CWM (option 2) mounting the system and data I reboot and the phone is stuck on "Unlocked dual core" boot screen. I'm not sure what I can do to have the phone boot now. Any suggestions?

Ok so it was a softbrick, I just reflashed 2.3.4 SFB and started over. :)

Thank You!

Thanks a lot! This worked perfectly for me when every other site said "just use fastboot," and that didn't work.

I really appreciate it. In the wake of HTC causing a ruckus with their ridiculous security breach, I figured I'd at least get the Cyanogenmod Beta on my Atrix.

How long should it take after you have typed your ID in for unlocking? For me it has been sat there for 5 mins at:

"Unlocking your device...

..."

The fix

Unlocked bootloaders as described. I got the soft brick like it said but was fixable and worked like it said. Many thanks.

It can take a few because it seemed like it took forever for mine but in reality maybe 7-10. Patience is required with this process.
