I think its useless for trying to improve radio reception (youre better off with a power injector if you have a booster and most modern cars do), an RK3368/PX5 is deffo better than an RK3188/PX3, however units with RK3399/PX6 SoMs are now available so youre better off buying an RK3399/PX6 SoM if youre looking to upgrade.

Hey, guys, I have a 1gb, 1.6gHz navi, bought from Erisin.




I have just repaired my fm radio tuner, which was damaged due to drying of some quartz elements on the board (I was catching no fm stations in the last few weeks, they were going fewer catched as time went on, since I installed that navi 2 years ago), but the navi itself remains a little bit laggy.

Can I upgrade mine with one of these 2gb boards:

I have seen, that many of you have replaced successful with the witson, the question is whther the cheaper ones are also compatible alternatives.The sellers of all of them say, that they are not compatible with other navis, than those that they sell in their stores, but is this true.
The otojeta seller said this is only software update, but I don't believe him, he is selling some board obviously.
The Mekede seller refuses to sell it without selling a navi machine as well. He says it's not compatible with other brands, but it's really cheap, so did anybody try it?

Ot can I upgrade with a px6 board, and which one is compatible?
Are there any settings that I have to backup, before I do the board replacement, in case that the new one doesn't work, and that I have to revert to the original one, that may get lost due to the change? And if yes, how is this backup made?

How do you search this core boards in AliExpress, what words do you use? When I type px5 board, only the Mekede is found.
In my country the Erisin oficial dealer is selling px5 upgrade board for my navi for something like $130, for which I assume it could be found somewhere cheaper with at least 10-20%, the question is where and what to look for, to find a compatible one. There is no point to order Witson from China for the same price, wait for it 1 month and hope to be compatible, as I can order and have it the next day for 130 dollars as well, right? Bit if I can save something by ordering from China, then it's worth waiting.

px6, even cheaper than the px5, and people say they replaced exactly old px3 with it. Is it compatible? And which one is better - more ram with px5 or less ram with px6?

Do yourself favor and by the PX5 2GB board that has the highest chance of working.
I have one installed with Android 6, as i was not sure if 8 was going to work.
There are some incompatibilities with that version.
You can search for Android 8 bluetooth wifi not working to figure out if you can install 8.
(If you find out that your MCU is working with android 8, than i recommend to buy the 4gb module)

Yes the android board is upgradable with your unit but install the heatspreader that comes with the new board.

Also update your MCU with the latest update before you install the PX5 board.

December 2019 update and summary

Well, that took a couple of nights to read through all 690 posts! Seems that there has been no action here since February though so I know I'm dragging up an old thread.

First, many thanks to all that contributed. I learnt a whole hell of a lot from you. Special thanks to @typos1 for patience in all the "Will this work with my headunit?" questions. You deserve sainthood.

Second, I figured that I'd bring this up to date for anyone starting at the end and working backwards:

• If you have an MTCD unit that is PX3/RK3188 then the PX5 board will work for your upgrade.
• There are some changes you need to make in the fitting of the PX5 with a removal or adaptation for a screw.
• You should have the latest MCU upgrade for your unit. See this thread for cross-compatibility.
• MTCD mcu have been replaced by MTCE mcu. The hardware is the same and you can flash the MTCE mcu to your MTCD HU. Be careful with the cross-compatability between hardware manufacturers though, See thread above for cross-compatibility.
• You will probably want to run a modified ROM which you can find on the forum here. Look for Hal9K or Malaysk ROMs for the version of Android that is on the PX5 board you buy
• Most folks buy the upgraded boards from the WITSON store(s) on AliExpress. The issue I found here is that there are now more than one WITSON store (see below)
• Some people have had issues with WiFi and BT not working but there is a workaround in post #667. Also see Hal9K site here.
• Yes, it does appear that it is worth doing with even the 2Gb/16Gb upgrade giving great results but there are now 4Gb/64Gb units available.

So, onto my questions that maybe only here due to the length of time between the last post in Feb 2019 and now - Dec 2019.

There are at least two WITSON stores on AliExpress:

• WITSON Automaster Store
• WITSON Official Store

Be careful on these sites, one listing seems to cover both the PX5 and PX30 boards with just a 'radio toggle' picture to define which one you order.

So, as of today, I can find two units available (this part to help those that post "Do you have a link to the item?" questions) but bear in mind, this is AliExpress and listings change all the time. You will need to do some searching to find what is available. I'm just trying to help short-circuit that learning curve for you.

• WITSON PX30 PX5 Android 9.0 core board For RK android system DVD(Android 7.1 and 8.1 can upgrade to Android 9.0 directly)

I have one question for those folks here that are way more experienced in this: Is there any reason to not go with the second one of those items (Android 9.0/4Gb/64Gb)? I read that some had some issues with Android 8.0 but with the passage of time, 7.1 isn't widely available now and I may as well buy the most memory available, right?

It took a while to get shipped but it was over Christmas holidays. Once it got shipped it arrived pretty quickly.

I have a JY headunit, no idea what model it is.
I was running the MTCD_JY_v1.90 MCU and upgraded directly to the MTCE_HA_v3.40 MCU. Backup and restore of the dmcu.cfg file seemed to leave the hardware buttons mixed up but I'll figure that out.

I have gone directly to Hal9K Mod4 ROM with OTA updates. WOrks pretty good currently. Interestingly, despite my unit showing that it is (?)MD725(?) bluetooth, it works just fine, as does the wifi.

I picked up through other threads (and updated the bullets in post #691) that the MTCD and MTCE hardware is identical and as such, MTCE firmware can be flashed to MTCD units. The thing to watch out for is cross-compatibility between hardware manufacturers (the letters that follow the MTCD_ part). Links to the relevant threads are in #691.

I had no issues with MCU 1.90 before moving directly to the 3.40 version but even though I saved and reinstalled the dmcu.cfg file from 1.90, the hardware button mapping was incorrect and I had to relearn it through the Factory Setting menu.

Unit is currently working perfectly on MTCE_HA_3.40 and Hal9K Mod4.0.1 OTA ROM.

It's possible but you need to check the version of your BT/Wifi card.
Also update the MCU to the latest version.

Yes I am 100% positive, its been widely known on here, 4pda.ru and many other sites for 5 years, its also been done 1000s of time by myself and others.

Eonon, lol - they just are a seller, they know very little about the units they sell, KBT is the manufacturer, Eonon are a useless.
