I do like the Dual 5ghz/2.4ghz WIFI feature. Connects to both bands for faster transfers...
Overall a decent phone as long as you don't want to play with the OS.
Don't like the fact that the SD card was removed and we only get 255gb for the global version.
Will probably be my last ZTE phone as there are too many compromises I have to make, updates are lousy and there is no love for the developement community, unsurprising if it is actually connected with the Chinese government, why would they want any way to break out of the bubble they've erected around their citizens...

Definitely not the phone for anyone in the development community or even if you just want root access.

256GB is fine for me.

They're all using our data, I'm beyond caring about it anymore, doesn't really matter if it's Google, Microsoft, META the CCP or our own governments. Which by the way have erected online bubbles around most people in the west for years now, we only have access to a fraction of the internet, Bing, Google and almost any search engine only give curated results. Google for example will tell you there are 1,860,000,000 results but in reality you only have access to about 300. The UN even admitted recently they were working with tech companies to filter the results, wrongthink isn't allowed. :)

I miss the internet from the 90/00's.

Hello ZTE friends :) unfortunately I haven't managed to unlock the bootloader until today.. it's possible to unlock it without question... but the question is how?!... twp is built and finished by me. i I currently have an Axon 30 Ultra but maybe also an Axon 40 Ultra if my wallet allows it ^^. Maybe I'll still be able to unlock it. I would build many custom roms and unlock other special feutures if the boot loader were unlocked. LG kevte89

Y'all here wondering about unlocking bootloaders and rooting this device, while I am here annoyed with how the UDC become visible under grey / semi dark colours and also lines appearing on it when under low brightness >.<

BL non-unlockable and likely won't ever be, end of story. Not MediaTek, and we're way past the age of loopholes.

I'm going to sound like a broken record, but as the old saying goes, nothing is impossible.

Of course you're gonna be jumping through A LOT of hoops, but if you have the conviction, the patience, and the brains, you have what it takes to do it💪

And yes I know what you're thinking: if someone does manage to pull it off, it is very likely that the end result would be worth much MUCH more than the initial goal (e.g. unlocking this phone paves way to more phones being unlocked via same method). Nothing wrong with being a hero 😎

I mean, I'm sure there are endless stories of people who was just working on one small project whose findings resulted in a world-changing discovery.

Since there's no thread for the Axon 40 ultra yet at the time of posting, so I'll post my query here.
The Axon 40 ultra which was just released recently has the specifications that matches my needs...

    > Primary 64MP cam with a large 1/1.3" sensor and excellent low light capability with an aperture size of f/1.6. Xiaomi barely goes below f/1.8 even in their high end phones like the 11 Ultra, and the 12 Ultra will definitely not add that large aperture. Gcam with this main camera would kill the competition in low light

    > Front facing camera which is under display. It may not be that impressive, but at least I have the full status bar to myself. Had the Zenfone 6 earlier, and the Zenfone 8 doesn't impress me, so I skipped it.

    > 5000mah battery with 80w charging. Currently only a handful of phones have this charging speed with 5000mah battery. Most of the phones have 4500mah batteries with 120 or 150w charging which is useless as what they should be doing is adding 10000mah batteries with those charging speeds.

The other specs with a less importance includes 512GB with USB C 3.1 which will enable speedy transfers to the PC, 144Hz display, 6.8 inches large display size (I would prefer 7 inches too these days with 20:9 or even 21:9 aspect ratio). I'm also expecting a speedy 5G modem which supports between 3 to 5Gbps download speeds and aren't mentioned on GSMArena.

So my question is... Will there be any good Custom ROM development on this phone? From what we can see, there's not a single Custom ROM for the Axon 30 Ultra, and it was launched in April last year. I wonder if it's due to unimpressive specs, or that no developer is interested in these phones.

This phone has great potential due to the impressive spec sheet. It would be a shame if there's no development on it.

There's a lot of reasons why devs are not making roms for ZTE phones. Thing is with ZTE phones are they're not popular. They're not easy to purchase(well for their flagships, their low end phones are everywhere though) alleged Chinese security things that has been reported, I think they're still blacklisted in the US just like Huawei, I think. Their marketing sucks hence nobody has interest in their phones even if they have great specs. I think they're not even popular in China. Lastly, potential devs doesn't have nor plans to buy their phones, that's why nobody is making any roms for their phones. Now there are solutions for that. You can make your own rom for the phone or if you know a dev and he's willing to make a rom as long as you buy him that particular ZTE phone, because I doubt he's gonna buy a phone that doesn't interest him.

That's why before I buy a phone, I make sure to research first if the phone has lots of devs making tons of roms for that particular phone, so that I can be assured that my phone can last a long time.

Btw. Somebody already tried to make a gofundme and willing to pay a dev to make a lineageOS port for the Axon 30 and nobody replied. That just shows you that ZTE phones are not that popular and even if somebody was willing to pay, nobody is touching it.

Another one, This dude is made some custom roms for ZTE phones and already made a TWRP for the Axon 30 Ultra but he is having issues on how to unlock the bootloader. Goes to show that even if you know how to make custom roms if ZTE is not willing to have the bootloader unlocked then nobody can make a rom for it.

Yes, it's only the home gesture, it stops working for 4-5 seconds every time I unlock the phone.
Are you saying it affects all Android 12 phones from other brands as well? I thought it was only for ZTE devices.
Yes other devices are affected too, even the pixel was when running Android 12.
You can "mitigate" this bug by installing 3rd party app called "Full screen gestures", it will work when native gesture don't
