Axon 7 holds up pretty well in a torture test. Bummer about the speaker grills but overall pretty solid.

Yup, plastic grills. Not a dealbreaker, but otherwise everything else is metal including buttons and camera bezel. Overall I am surprised the phone is made to the quality is it for $400.are the grills plastic? at work and cant hear with volume. surprised it bent that much also.
Given where the NFC antenna supposedly is (near the front camera in the top 1cm or so of the phone) I'm not surprised that the grills are plastic. A metal back, if it is connected to the phone's electrical ground, is to some extents a partial Faraday cage, blocking electromagnetic radiation from passing through it. No wireless charging through it, thin plastic strips near the ends of metal back phones separating the metal bits at the end from the main back & ground so the phone's antennae can receive and transmit, no NFC through it. Looks good, feels premium but is one of the worst things they could do to a phone. The glass screen probably weakens signals as well especially with the largely invisible conductive grid for capacitive touch.Yup, plastic grills.
