I noticed Software Update 2.0.6 on the B&N HD+ Support page...has anyone tried it out yet?

Sent from my BNTV600 using XDA Premium HD app
I literally just opened my Nook HD+ fresh out of the box tonight. I was trying to get Google Play store onto it for my parents, but then it automatically updated to 2.0.5 and beeped at me without any prompting. Just a few hours later and it's now trying to update to 2.0.6.

Looks like a picked a bad day to try and get a decent app store onto this thing. I'm having zero luck with SD booting as well, despite following the guides to the letter.

Yes, I purposely updated to see if my cwm zips still work. They do. So you can still do everything as noted in my HD/HD+ CWM thread.

Edit: The white-on-white repair does not work on 2.0.6. Don't use it.

So if I already have the white-on-white repair and I get updated to 2.0.6, will I be in trouble?

Do you have to reinstall them? I have gapps+ extras if I update will I need to reflash it?

EDIT: Nevermind, I tried it and all seems well, no re installation needed

I updated manually (downloaded file from B&N then dragged it onto internal storage folder), let it update software, powered off, inserted CWM SD card, then re-flashed the Root zip and the Gapps zip only. Worked flawlessly. Have root back and Play Store working. All apps continued to work (except Play Store) even before I reflashed the CWM zips.

Changes I noticed in the stock features, some kind of pointless and some kind of nice:
1) While on the lock screen, my profile icon now periodically shoots out little white waves at the lock icon (reminds me of Aquaman talking to fish!)
2) Speaking of Aquaman, the stock reader has improved but not 100% fixed comic reading capabilities. Double page spreads in .cbz files wouldn't display correctly previously, but they do now--most of the time...They sometimes slip out of the correct aspect ratio now, but that is fixed by activating the thumbnails at the bottom of the screen and tapping on the thumbnail of the page you're trying to view. Kind of a pain still.
3) It seems like the SD card isn't getting checked/or indexed as often or for as long now, but I could be wrong. I'll keep an eye on this.
4) Notifications popup is slightly different
5) Stock browser seems faster, with pages loading far more quickly
6) Stock Library icon is brown and white now instead of white and blue (?!)

There are probably more that I haven't stumbled across yet.

To answer the question so others know. You only lose root with the update to 2.0.6. All others (except white-on-white) remain.

Play Store stopped for you?

Yep--I tried it several times (after the B&N update installed and before I reflashed zips) and the Play Store crashed as soon as it started to open each time. Once I reflashed the CWM zips, everything is working fine.

Didn't see it last night

Hi,

I guess this is a new version that I don't want to deal with, because after buying the Nook HD+ from Barnes & Noble a few weeks ago, as soon as it connects to the web aka registering the device process, it will update itself.

Just got version 2.0.5 last night, because I messed with a sys file after rooting my HD+ using leapinlar's method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=35811322#post35811322. After unsuccessfully using verygreen CM10 SD Card, got to know leapinlar's just root method.

Now I succesfully have verygreen's CM10 on my SD card. I can sleep in peace.

Yup, I'm rooted and on 2.0.6.whatever and everything seems to be fine and the touch issues I was having before are not a thing, but since then I've put on a matte protector that my finger glides across instead of stutters as it did on the rather grippy glass. Remember kids bootloop restart and when its looking for an update power off before it finishes and power back up, you'll be on the earliest possible firmware for your device. then turn off wifi, insert your CWM card and run your zips and reboot (if you're afraid of 2.0.6).

Any way to modify the white-on-white fonts in 2.06 rooted?
Yes, the same way we came up with 2.0-2.0.5. You can do it manually(recompile) it, or just wait for leapinlar and he will post one at the usual place.

Aside from that, what exactly is new on 2.0.6 other than to piss us off?

Mine also just updated to 2.0.6, my wife mentioned the screen went on without touching our hd+. I use it to read our newspaper daily and the screen didn't respond well for zooming and going to another page. Never thought that was an hd+ issue, but now after the update it looks I'm able to go through the newspaper ten times quicker. I think everything still works

No, it will replace it. But from others I think the update will fail if you have the white on white installed. It will stay at what you have.

Yes, I will do it when I get time and post it. But be aware of the new issue if you do, any update in the future will fail. You will have to restore a backup that you made before the white on white was installed. Then it will update.

Thanks in advance for the effort - IMHO, a fix is worth some pain as some apps/websites are near useless without a fix.

Yep. It is looking for the unmodified framework-res.apk. Restore your backup. If it has not been that long ago, just selectively restore /system. You may have to flash some of the zips again later.

Grrr, my CM 10.1 test Nook HD+ got updated today too. SD was removed (i screwed up CM 10.1 install) for rewrite with new image. Battery was low and i put it to charge. Bummm, it powered up and updated itself, even that it was rooted 2.0.2 and with OTA manual.

I now have a modified 206 update zip linked in my CWM thread that will install over any version, even if you have previously installed the white on white repair.
