I've just pre-ordered the G5 in pink in Hong Kong for HKD 4998 approximate USD 645, if you purchased the Hi Fi plus together it's HKD 998 approximate USD 129, if you purchase optional and not at the same time it's HKD 1998 approximate USD 258, i'm still considerring as the black/grey colour does not match the pink, and because I know the shop, I can decide to purchase it afterwards at the discounted price.

With or without the hifi plus, the G5 already supports hires flac and even DSD, I have personally tried this and can confirm it, and I doubt you can even tell the differences apart from the sound stage with and without the Hi Fi plus, I was told from a local LG rep, the B&O unit gives out a slight deeper sound, whiles compared to the V10, the V10 has a wider sound stage, I actual traded my V10 for this, and I also have a Sony ZX2 Hi Res audio player.

The official release date in Hong Kong is 15th of this month.

That's also a point, having converted some of the my mp3 files to flac, 24bit max settings etc or whatever it was my files came back an average 400-500mb. even going with a lesser setting they came back at the 40mb region, but then still I don't have that kind of space to store 1500 files at that size and the quality is again diminished

Then there's getting these new high res files. is anyone gonna want to re obtain their whole library? as converting won't work for all of the mp3 files. Will LG and or B&O supply software to convert this?

I wonder if it's worth all that trouble for those that don't have the space and files already?

regardless I'll probably still throw money at it

Now I'm going to keep this phone regardless of the digital to analog converter being available or not however I must admit that it is definitely something that I strongly considered as a factor to buy this phone as well as the other features. I consider myself an audiophile, and love many types of music in their purest and most dynamic forms. Having a 32-bit digital to analog converter would be a nice addition to my list of preferred gadgets. I think we should go HAM and create a petition on change.org LOL
you can still use it without plugging it in as a friend, this works on ANY phone or device with a USB type C socket that feeds audio. Just connect it via a usb c cable and it will work.

im in the UK and it works on the LG G5 as a module and i also have used it on my brother's new nexus by connecting to its USB C port

That is BS seriously. Lol that leaves only EU and china for the major market. Such a let down by LG.
the EU and China are the world's biggest single markets so it makes sense to prioritise them over the USA and Latin America. But I agree its weird its not available in the USA. I'm sure they will make it available at some point.

OK so I just watch the mobile geeks un boxing and they have a t-mobile version of the phone and he put the dac in and it's boots perfectly. So it seems it does work with the USA lg g5.

wrong, he had 2 G5's; one was the t mobile version he unboxed and just put to the side. He then plugged the DAC into his pre production G5 that's obviously the international version which is compatible with the DAC

Yeah, except when you click on the hi-fi plus module, it's only available in the UK, Korea, and UAE.

**edit**
Guess it does say, "* Service availability will be expanded to more countries soon"
even small prints states not available in all areas.

finally got one

got mine delivered today in the UK, average price is around £150. some sites are listing it pre tax.

I have noticed some difference on some of my converted tracks mp3 to 24bit flac 44khz? using skullcandy crushers(bass was excellent and the sound a bit more accoustic), using the b&o h3 the clarity was noticable too but bass not so much. (used stock music player and usb audio pro player)

I did buy the beyerdynamic dt 770 pro 250 ohms specifically for use with the lg hifi plus but they're now back in the box.

can't remember where i read it, but it's recommended you use headphones between 50-60 ohms.

also connected to the pc and listened to a 32bit wav file 96khz but couldn't really tell the difference between upscaled 24bit flac files above. (all wav/flac files were converted from mp3)

bearing in mind you'll probably want more storage space on your phone and some headphones, if you don't own a decent set (I'm hunting for a new pair if anyone has any reccomendations for over/on earhigh res bass ones) I'd wait until it's closer to £100 than £150.

it's worth noting, when the headphones are plugged in the battery goes down noticeably quicker and the phone won't quick charge either. also there's still no eq but the module does have it's own firmware (current version 9)
