so just so I understand there's no root for 4.4.4 or 5.0 but it's possible to go back to 4.4.4 from 5.0 ?
That is correct. I went from 5.0 to 4.4.4 to regain some of my lost LTE signal strength. You can go back as of the most current VZW 5.0 build to 4.4.4 (NK1)

But there is no root method for either 4.4.4 or Lollipop. Whenever they release the next lollipop build including bugfixes, they'll probably blacklist NK1.

So my wife got the Lollipop update a couple days ago and she hates it. She hates the colors and some of the changes, but above all she is now missing calls as well. A missed call notification will show up like 20 minutes after someone tried to call her.

That said, if I use this method, will be be constantly hounded to update to 5.0 again?

I wondered myself if I would have to ignore that update several times a day, but thankfully I haven't seen it ask once.

Sorry I never responded as I don't check this often, glad it helped.

Trust me I really wanted it and tried all the usual steps. I think something is wrong with my phones hardware that works mostly ok on this version. I actually stayed on an old version for a very long time, I rooted "root de la vega" and took one ota using the supersu option to keep root when using an ota. The next update after that would not work for me, I would have had to wipe and odin to update, so I held off thinking I wasn't missing anything. Till about a week or less after 4.4.4 came out then my phone started crashing the moment I received or made a call. I hadn't gotten any new apps or anything like that but just in case I factory reset to see if it fixed with no luck. So I finally upgraded via odin, no root now, but miraculously my phone could make calls again. I am giving you this essay because I have a feeling this issue is related. It seems it's my phones hardware that is messed up and i'm just lucky that 4.4.4 works at all. I still have issues every couple days where I make or receive a call and hear nothing, with a reboot needed to fix, that is confirmed still after a fresh install of 4.4.4 after all the 5.0 stuff I tried. Anyways thats why I think it's my phone. I wish I had an extended warranty so I could just update and make a claim.

As for everything I tried in the update, I took the ota, which was literally unusable by anybodys standard, I could use the phone for about 5-20ish seconds before it would crash, turning the sound to mute would help, but still crash at a couple minutes of use. I downloaded the firmware and flashed via Odin, same exact issues, changed nothing. Did several factory resets between all these steps. I kind of walked through the process on that thread I posted in the OP.

After making this thread I did try it one last time and flashed via odin, knowing that I had a workable fix, but same exact thing again. If they release another update I'll try then, but looks like I'm stuck till then at least. :(

go to sammobile for the firmware

go to sammobile for the firmware
I did, that's where I got the firmware after the Ota didnt go well, same exact issues with the sammobile download. Odin also checks the md5 so I'm pretty positive I didn't get two bad downloads giving the same exact problem. Like I said, it's not the update, it's my phone that is messed. I'm just lucky it works at 4.4.4 at all, it has some minor annoyances even still when making and receiving calls, even after a couple flashes and a dozen factory resets, but it's usable at least. I encourage all to take the update, I'm just informing anybody that needed this like I did, so they that it's possible.

You should retry the upgrade, it's faster and more stable. You just had a corrupted file or something, if you really want the best is worth a try. It's 40% faster. There was just something wrong with your install.
Sir..
Is it necessary to use sim from american carrier for the first time after updating to lolipop..im from india and my note3 is running 4.4.4 ng1

I'm finally fed up with the horrible radios in Lollipop. I haven't tried a factory reset but I somehow believe this wouldn't help anyway. Thanks for letting the community know there is a way to get back to KitKat.

I'm downloading the firmware now and will report back on the status of my radio.

Edit- just finished "downgrade", phone immediately downloaded the update. I ignored for now. Radio isn't waffling from service to service like in Lollipop. New battery inserted testing life now. I hope Lollipop didn't kill my charge cycles, ugh.

update- all applications installed, logged into most applications and settings redone. Battery usage is way less. I have noticed the radio doesn't waffle as much. Thanks again for the confirmation of this fix.

Odin works

I have a note 3 that I received already Ota updated to lollipop. Can I use the Odin methods to go back to 4.4.x or did the Ota kill that.

Odin back to NK1 works, follow the link in the OP. I've done it a few times now and have way better mobile signal on NK1.

nk1 is rootable? I know it was for my s4, but thats a different beast

ugh started reading posts backwards ... NK1 is not rootable. That is the only issue I have. Lollipop is nice, and I don't mind being "stuck" here. It's the root i wan't! Wow first phone I have ever owned that I couldn't root 5 mins after turning it on.... meh

Indeed, Samsung is getting stupid. I had the original Galaxy Captivate for ATT, rooted that thing more times than I can remember. I see Hashcode is deving here, he did wonders for that beast.

UNLOCK the bootloader Samsung!

Awesome, glad it helped. I'm SO glad they didn't block the ability to do this, I'd have been out a phone if they had.
Hi LostPerfections Thank you for this rom..
But I just softbricked my phone trying to unlock tether mode. Is it possible for you to provide a update.zip for framework-res.apk ? or can you give the ceritificate files used to sign the super su app.. i will try to build it.
I dont want to loose the root.. so i want to try with 4.4.4 stock rom as last resort..
I did nt have adb enabled so it boot loop and i cant get in..

So I'm guessing this is the reason why i have not been able to succesfully go from 5.0 back to 4.4.2? It fails on Odin all the time. So in the long run, what is better? Sticking to Lolipop 5.0 or 4.4.4? I'm using a Verizon Note 3 on Metropcs and wanted root so i can get rid of all the Verizon stock junk and notifications. I cant believe Lolipop is not root possible yet?

You can not...by any current method, root or downgrade to an OS lower than 4.4.4 once you install (via OTA or flash) 4.4.4 or higher.
