My battery drain issue seems to be completely random; just today I had a bad case where it was barely achieving 1 hour SoT with 50% drained over 3 hours. The main culprit, as I don't have root, seems to just be Android OS which is wakelocking too much.

I found that I solved any drain issues by clearing all app preferences which removes all the permissions

This worked!!! Now I have to understand why charging the phone triggers the problem and what specific process within the android system it really is...
How many % do you lose per hour in IDLE ?
Apparently, N makes us losing TWRP. It's taking a great risk to upgrade before TWRP is present for G5/N.

How could a battery drain resist a flash ? Could it be caused by something in /firmware or in /sys ?

Right now, i'm working with the App "Disable Service" to try to find a culprit.
Right now I'm losing ca 5,6% an hour on standby, running a de-bloated stock ROM.
On CM I was up at almost 12% an hour, so stock has been fairer for the battery,

But how a drain can resist a flash is beyond me and my knowledge of this. I even tried to format everything except ext sd, which did not help either.

Didn't solve my problem. But I observed that I have this extreme battery drain since Facebook and Messenger drained hard the battery because of a bug. And then I remembered that I installed Greenify on my Nougat ROM. I removed Greenify : no more battery drain !!!!!!!

It's certainly worth trying flashing different firmware using LG up. When I got this g5 2nd hand it was losing 7 percent an hour on standby. I installed programs (accubattery is useful) and found phone never sleeped. Factory reset did not fix it. So knowing I was on O2 I flashed the O2 UK firmware and now I lose under 2 percent an hour with always on display activated. I've had the phone off charge from 7am to nearly midnight, used the screen for 4 hours 15 and still have 13 percent left which according to accucheck will get me an extra hour of screen on time. So that's 5 hours screen on! Not had many phones that could achieve that.
