Battery theory and mod

Hi all. I've decided to keep the G5 longer after my contract has expired.
I think the phone is still great for my usage and I don't need the very latest just yet. I will update to oreo (once I figure out the guides and versions).

My main concern is the battery. My original battery dated 2016 doesn't hold much charge now. In 2018 I did purchase a second one manufactured in 2017 from replacebase UK (they sell oem parts by dismantling phones, so I know everything is genuine unless stated).

The problem was the 2017 battery wasn't as good as the 2016 one.
I would think that a battery that is just shelved for months or even a year or so, would irreversibly deplete, and then not be able to give full capacity.
My mod/theory idea is, if a battery of similar physical size, from newer released phones late 2018 or 2019, could be adapted to be used in the LG G5?
Even if the battery is an internal type (as most are going).

It's not about increasing capacity, but having a freshly manufactured one.
I'm sure something could be done or adapted. Has anybody tried something similar?
With a fresh oem battery, you'd have guaranteed quality and it holding a good, new like charge.

I dont want the external battery cases. Not efficient and adds too much bulk.

Thanks for reading

I don't think it's possible to adapt another OEM battery to our G5. The phone will most likely complain about a invalid battery or not start up at all and maybe fry the phone. The only option is to buy 3rd parties from Amazon or eBay.

Guys, I just modded the s7 edge battery into my G5. Bought spare for the edge {3600 mAh!) and soldered it to the circuitry from an aftermakrket G5 battery (2800ish mAh).

Check out the attached pics, battery life is now GREAT. 5+ hours SOT, LOS 16, maxish brightness.

It's really easy, too. 30 minutes soldering iron on to iron off.

You can also look on Youtube for other people doing this.

Hi, I see two variations of the battery. Did you use S7 edge version or non. It's hard to get the model number, most details seems written in korean. Thx

I bought this model:

SAMSUNG Galaxy S7 Edge (G935F) EB-BG935ABE 3600mAh

The cell is marked as manufactured in 08/2019, and looks new. It was 12€ shipped nationally, but I think you can find it for the same price locally.

Thanks for that. Will order one after christmas now or Jan. Will make quite a difference, especially as I'm still using the phone now with Lineage 15, soon 16.

Funny thing is, I just realised I was the one who started this thread a year ago!
I saw followed your thread from G5 LOS and just seen this thread.

Oh, what a nice coincidence! I'm super glad people are finding out about this mod and actually go ahead and do it. I'm recommending this so much lately that one may think I sell those.

By the way, battery life is *much* improved, but consider getting the LG Xpower cell, the larger of the two, I kinda regret not knowing about it earlier. I understand there may be no documentation on it, but I did the S7 cell a the shot in the dark way and it's not really rocket science. Anyway, you got this :highfive:

Hello

I have problem with battery life some long time, I switch sometimes 3 batteries to endure a single day.. And I saw this thread and decided to try, nothing to lose exept time, some amount of money, and one of battery :) So by reading comments I decided to test it with better option - xpower 4100mAh cell. So i ordered it from amazon, it was marked as original, but I'm not sure is it?! Inside of the battery is Sanyo upf52471o2z battery, but with LG bl-t24 cover!? Is that normal or no, I'm not sure.
Nevermind, main problem here are sizes. New battery is a little thicker, but just enough to be hard to insert it in or even harder to take it out, but ok its possible(somehow), with risk of cracking screen of course(btw I didnt crack it)!!
Second BIG and unsolvable problem is length, its same size as original LG battery but without board with pins, so when you put and solder board from old battery its bigger just enough to be impossible to put bottom module... :(((
So I wonder if there is anyone else who tried something similar? To suggest something? I'm planning to try again but with s7 edge battery, that should work for sure, as @totalnoob34 had success with it.

I would post some pics of work but like new member I cant, unfortunately.

I tried using that LG xpower battery also and I don't recommend it, just ordered the SAMSUNG Galaxy S7 Edge (G935F) EB-BG935ABE 3600mAh modded by totalnoob34 and we'll see how it fits.

Im going to try this, there are valid questions about the x power cell being too long once you attach the board from the sacrificial g5 battery. I got a slightly swollen s7 edge battery which still performs like new but i had to replace it since it opened my s7 edge back panel from the inside just a bit. the g5 has lots of space inside. im waiting for my g5 which i got for 54 USD and the reviewers/buyers and the seller claimed the units look brand new. Might be refurbished but i didnt think twice about ordering at that price. btw i only found one video on youtube about this mod
