I have loved everything about my moto x other than the camera, is there a 3rd party app that will improve the quality?

You could try focal. It has lots of settings and is made by cyanogenmod

i use many different camera apps for different purposes. ProCapture has a ton of options and Camera360 is another one that I like. Two of my favorites right there.
