I went with the Rugged Armor over Tough. I had Tough on my last phone and after a year the stand got really loose and would always get stuck on my pocket since it wouldn't stay flush to case.

I bought the Cyrill Color Brick. Overall it's very sturdy and I feel like I could drop the phone many times without incident. But it does add a certain heft to the phone. The Amazon listing claims a weight of 20g but it in fact adds 30g to the phone which is non-negligible. And the thickness does affect the ergonomics of typing.

I'm open to other options that are lighter and slimmer.

I got the google fabric case. I find it a little thick, slick and kinda harsh. I think I am going to send it back. I really want a thin textured case but nothing out there fits the bill.

I have this and the Tough Armor. Settled on the latter for better protection, looks and a nicely textured back (between upper/lower panels). Sides also have light 'ribs' which actually work. Button covers convey 'clickiness' but hide power button accent. Buttons are uncovered in model above.

I might try that spigen one. Looks like it is not too bad. Going to look at the thickness. It's kind of odd looking but honestly I didn't buy this phone to care about fashion. It's so plain that a case is fine. I really really wanted to like the fabric case.

What's that one made of? The description says PC. I have this one:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B083N5DD7K/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fab_nDrzFbRBCK70R

Doesn't really feel very grippy at all. Good protection, but looking for a silicone feel.
You answered your own question :). It's a polycarbonate case like their description says. I wouldn't say it adds much grip compared to using the 4a without a case. I never really had an issues with grip on anything except glass-back phones with no case.

I have the google fabric case and it's "just OK" in my opinion
I like the look of it and the the power and volume buttons feel really nice, but that's about it for positives. I don't like the wide opening at the bottom. It makes it hard to plug in a charger by feel in the dark. I find the soft fabric to be a little more slippery than rubber/tpu. It's fallen out of my hand a few times. Lastly, after only ~2 months it's starting to get a little grody. I know it's supposedly washable but the product page says "Case tested to 12 cycles" so I'm not really confident it will survive washing it as often as it seems to need.

I'm really bummed with the options from Otterbox.
I've grown really fond of their Symmetry series, seeing them on friends and families phones and was planning to get one for my 4a until I saw the colors offered. It seems that on nearly every phone I've seen, they AT LEAST offer plain black and one other solid color (and usually also some stupid clear/glitter versions). On the Pixel 3a they had three options (Black, Yellow, Red). On the Pixel 4 they had five (Black, Blue, and three different styles of clear/glitter). But then on the 4a they only have two options and neither of them are a solid. It's just those stupid clear/glitter things. Who's buying those? The damn phone only came in black anyway... what would I be trying to show off with a clear case? I get that this is an "a" phone and also assume they may have cut back on the many SKUs due to COVID... but if you're going to offer two different Symmetry options, at least offer black. This is insanity.
That's it. Rant over.

I just order the Spigen Rugged Armor this morning. https://www.amazon.com/Spigen-Rugged-Armor-Designed-Google/dp/B083N5DD7K/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=spigen+pixel+4a&qid=1597678531&s=electronics&sr=1-1

I have been happy with my nearly Spigen case for my OnePlus3T. I wish there was a bright red or blue besides just black...but I can live with black. I would have considered the Tough Armor If I had found that in my amazon searches. I like how the Tough Armor gets wider around the camera bump to protect it.
I went for the tough armor (though that and my phone hasn't actually turned up yet!). Oddly the tough armor isn't on spigen's site, nor in the link in the OP. It looks better than the others though (looks about the same but more protection).

I have tried 6 different cases so far:
- Spigen Tough Armor
- Spigen Thin Fit
- Cyrill Color Brick
- EasyAcc Slim Case
- DiMiK
- Caseology Vault
and I stick with Caseology Vault.
If you need my personal experience with each case, just ask.
I have a hard time choosing between caseology vault and spigen rugged armour. I like how the 'vault' looks but after reading the reviews, I'm slightly worried about the grip. So how is the grip on 'vault'? Will it be better than the spigen rugged armour?

The Caseology Vault has a good grip, I don't have any problem with it. I think it's better than the grip on Rugged Armor. Also, the Rugged Armor is too bulky for my liking and the back of the case is the fingerprints magnet. But it's only just my opinion.

So I have been on a bit of a shopping spree (oops). Thankfully Amazon US has free returns on cases. I currently have the:

DiMiK case: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B084S3ZY9G/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_jbZmFbDRNDBWQ

Caseology Vault: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B083Q4SY5G/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_5aZmFb8PPY0N6

Spigen Liquid Crystal: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B083N54J5Y/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_OaZmFbVDVR3P1

And tomorrow I get the Cyrill Brick Case: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B083QQTQ3V/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_5.YmFb2PCB9HQ

Quick notes and observations.
1) All of the cases are the exact same size and thickness.
2) The DiMiK case is as cheap as you would expect. No real corner protection or grip and the form is not perfect.
3) The vault is great quality but notably heavier than the other cases. Outside of the extra weight, my main concern is grip from this case. The texture adds no real grip to the phone. Form is perfect.
4) Liquid crystal also has almost perfect build quality with one small imperfection on the inside of a corner. Very light weight with great protection. The grip on this case is fantastic (important to me). Unfortunately I think it will get noticeably scuffed and will eventually turn yellow.

Q: Are caseology and spigen made by the same company? The form, quality and packaging are almost identical. The difference is the color, weight and grip.

I wish I had a solid color liquid crystal case. That is why I am trying the brick case. No perfect solution yet.

Thought I would share with everyone.
Yep. Caseology and Spigen are the same people.

The Spigen thin fit is a very nice case!
I've been using it for about a month and I can say that I'm very happy with it. It doesn't add much thickness to the phone and I really appreciate it since I consider the phone size to be perfect. The material is quite grippy and it doesn't attract much fingerprints and finger oil. It's pretty easy to clean. There are cutouts around the original buttons - some might consider it an upside, some downside. There is an engraved slot for a metal plate to use with magnetic phone mounts.
