Best Cyanogenmod version for battery life on Nook HD+?

We have 3 Nook HD+s that are used mostly for trips. I've upgraded them to CM13 and the battery life seems much worse. So I'm thinking of downgrading to CM11 which seemed pretty solid and has official nightlies. I can also do other versions if it's a good idea.

I was pleased that it was possible to upgrade to CM13 at all and think it's great that people are putting the effort into doing that. But we're going to be on a long flight and it's always kind of nerve-wracking because we only have one external battery (Anker) that the Nooks will charge from.

At home, my kids prefer their Chromebooks and the Nooks sit. It's hard to think in terms of getting new tablets because the Nooks still have their 1920x1080 screens and are paid for. We have a shared Amazon Kindle account and that gets the 3 kids a lot of shared reading material.

Thanks!

FWIW I've been running CM11 nightly build dated 11/22/15 since it first came out and I am very happy with its performance -- responsiveness, stability, and battery consumption.

I'm using mm aosp and shut down the bus I don't use with titanium backup, I get a few hours of sot with it running heavy Wi-Fi, brightness maxed, and an app that updated extremely frequently with Wi-Fi (fallout 4 companion app). Just saying so you have options.

I have been using 11-20150817 Ovation Nightly for a long time. I probably should have switched to the 11/22/2015 version mentioned above, but the one I'm on ain't broke so I'm not fixing it. I have had very good results with this, but there are several tricks to it. First, I use Autostart Pro (from the play store) to stop a lot of things from starting when I boot. There are a lot of apps, like browsers, weather and email, that I don't want eating juice unless I need them. Next, I use Greenify Contribution version (from the play store) to stop things from starting after startup unless I call them. I greenify everything that I can. If it isn't an app the system needs or a widget I want to see, I greenify it. You have to be careful not to mess around too much with the system apps. I have also found that this CM11 version has memory leaks that sometimes corrupt dalvik cache. I use Root Cleaner (from the play store) to rebuild dalvik cache about once a week. I have some other things I do which may have an effect on battery usage. I made some additions to build.prop. The changes mainly force the GPU to do more work. There are also some battery tweaks with small effects. If you're interested, I'll publish them. I get about 6-8 hours on my Nook HD+ with this configuration, running with WiFi on. I can't resist the screen size either.

A RAM memory saving trick I use is Folder Organizer (from the play store). You can organize your apps into folders and then put them on your launcher as 1x1 widgets. This seems to save RAM memory over having them in launcher folders on on launcher pages. What's great about that is you can transfer the groups to other Android devices. I think that using less RAM for the launcher means less memory swapping, which saves battery. I use Apex launcher, but I think this will work with other launchers. I would recommend deleting all the apps you're not going to use. They might escape from being Greenified and eat juice.

Recently I've rooted and started using an LG Gpad 8.3. It has 1920x1200 resolution but it's a smaller screen. It's a lot faster, with quad processor compared to the Nook's dual processor, but for reading Kindle books, I still like the Nook HD+ screen size better. However, the LG Gpad 8.3's are going for under $80 on Ebay and an $11 charger will charge them.
