I have a Audio Technica ATH-M30X rated at 54 ohms. Plugging this to trigger the high impedance mode ( which starts at 50 ohms) is very hit or miss. It only triggers sometimes when I plug it in at specific angles.
But to be honest, I don't see any huge advantage for the high impedance mode. It sounds like all it does is increase the volume (drastically). The actual sound quality doesn't seem like much of a difference. Also the battery drains like crazy in this mode.
So unless your headphone is seriously high end and has a crazy high impedance and requires the extra volume, normal mode should be fine 95% of the time.
My other headphones that I use are the LG stock earphones (which I got with the G6. It sounds pretty good at the right equaliser settings. Just ask if you want to see my settings) and the KZ-ATR HiFi earphones.
