FYI I tested a lot of GCams 8.8.224 (the latest version as of now) and the only cam that doesn't crash is the Shamim SGCAM_8.8.224.10_STABLE_V9FIX. I will keep it becauseyesterday I was at a live concert and the stock camera microphone is a total mess (every video that I made has the audio extremely distorted, while the instagram camera doesn't have this problem, but the video are ****ty).
There are a few problems tho:

1- it is extremely slow when you click every button
2- without touching any settings, pictures and videos are worst than the stock camera

Let me know if that version works for you, and if so, which setting do you use to improve the camera quality!

Tried what you recommended but that gcam had too many problem. 4k 60fps recording just hangs never actually enabling. I'm satisfied with the camera, just wasn't happy with the speed it takes photos.

Have you tried to record a concert with the stock camera? You would get a super distorted audio (with every other camera app i don't have this problem). For now I keep it just to record live concert, but I know it has a lot of problems unfortunately

I don't go to concerts lol. Everything I've filmed has been fine on my end audio wise, I work in a relatively loud environment and the mic holds up about as well as any other phone.

Hello,

I recently tested SGCAM_8.8.224.10_STABLE_V12 vs the Stock Camera app on the Edge+ 2023 and Moto X40. Make sure you enable white balance (pictures will lack color otherwise). Here are the results:

Let me know what y'all think. I definitely noticed more detail and drastically improved HDR on certain pictures.
Hi and thanks for these samples. Really helpful as I'm considering getting this phone.

I would like to ask if the last two photos of the doggo are taken with the 2x telephoto lens? There is just night and day difference in detail on that one in favor to gcam!

Yup! I manually switched to the telephoto lens. Zooming is drastically improved compared to stock.

Hi Everyone,

I wanted to add to the discussion that I think I've found the setting that causes all GCam's to crash on our phone: it is Hardware level (so it is called on MGC's GCam).

The default Auto setting will crash the GCam after opening. If set to Full, it will work.

Unfortunately this setting is not exposed on many GCam's I've tried, so we're stuck to the few ones that can modify it (ex. MGC v8.7 which I'm using atm) or that default to the Full setting.

Someone in the Telegram groups should communicate this to the devs. Surely much quicker way than to hope Motorola will fix this.

If someone has found better working version or settings to adjust please share. I have tried all the versions and played with settings but cannot find anything better than stock camera which feels dissapointing. For now the best version has been MGC 8.7 with default settings. I have tried to look for configs aswell but havent found one yet.

Are you using this version? https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/dev-bsg/f/dl134/

When I have BSG MGC 8.7 installed, and I take a photo, it crashes the app and does not save the photo.

Hi, yes that one. Before opening the camera add shortcut of it to the homescreen. Then long press the camera icon and make separate shortcut for camera settings. From settings choose configuration of modes and from there change hardware level to full. After that it should work without issues.

Thanks, that worked. It is a shame that 8.8 doesn't work using the same method.

hi.
I have moto x40. Like someone mention audio on live concerts is terrible. I tried stock, instagram, gcam 8.1 (only that works on my device). Every time same terrible audio. Anyone facing this problem and find workaround?
Or maybe camera app which allows manually set mic levels?

Unfortunately I didn't find any solution or workaround. I'm following this post to check for any news (there is the same problem with Edge 30 pro).

I am happy to say that the latest BSG version of GCAM (MGC_8.9.097_A11_V7), seems to work good on my edge+ 2023. I did have to use the previously mentioned shortcut method to go into Gcam settings and change Hardware Level to "Full" (this feature was added in this latest version). I can take images, and they save. Everything seems to be working well so far.

I tried it when it came out and indeed the basic stuff works, but if you try to zoom in/out in video and if you click some random stuff in the UI, it crashes a lot. It needs some more bugfixes by The Dev, but we are getting close to a good cam alternative!
