I just came back to MIUI7 mainly for the camera. I actually used TWRP to flash MIUI on the extended partition. Let's hope there will be no problem other than not able to update.

There's no problem updating, of course you can't use the updater app, but you can use it for downloading the update, then restart to TWRP and flash it manually. This is how I've been doing it until now, everything works perfectly.

It's amazing how many ROM's exist for the Mi3 but i see lots and lots of complaints about SOD's and subsequent overheating issues in various occasions. I'm keeping with MIUI7 for now because of those problems... My Mi3 is my only phone, so i need it stable and fully usable, is there any Lollipop based ROM without these issues?

Try Metallium ROM... Doesn't have any bug (except for HDR everything works well here. For HDR blame xiaomi for not releasing the codes). Its absolutely stable and super fast... No issues at all... On top of it, battery backup is excellent. It is my daily driver. Can vouch for it as I am using it for nearly a month now. I have tried almost all the ROMs and at last got settled with it.

If you don't like it you can always go back to MIUI. But remember one thing after few days marshmallow is releasing but MIUI for Mi3 will be stuck to KitKat unfortunately. So call is yours. Mi3 is very much capable of running the latest android version but xiaomi's decision crippled it.

Cheers

Hey, I would just like to know if any of the ROMs mentioned here have the slow charging bug! That alone is a major bummer for me. So any help is appreciated!
Metallium ROM charges fast (even through USB too). Its comparable to MIUI when it comes to charging. Try it yourself.

PS: Here is the download link if you wanna try: link

Latest mokee release is worth trying as well. Fast, stable, excellent battery. Just don't install supersu (or you will get the phone apk bug like other roms) but use the built-in root

@rajib4 Cheers Mate! One other question. I once flashed Mokee in my Mi3 a few months back and I ended up with broken speakers. The sound was all distorted and such. I hope there is no such issue with Metallium? I couldn't find any solution for it no matter where I asked. I even tried going back to MIUI. But it still persisted. In the end I had to give it for service. Good thing I had warranty back then. I am traumatized after that experience and still reluctant to flash custom ROMs. My warranty period is over now. ?

Im using Mokee 5.1.1 nightly (01 October 2015) without any such issues, its the perfect lollipop rom imo. Although I am tempted to try Metallium after hearing so many positive reviews.

EDIT: Tried Metallium just to see if really did charge any faster (wall charger, not usb). Turns out it charges just as fast as Mokee. Anyway, metallium certainly seems like a good rom but I am back on Mokee, it just feels right for me.

@rajib4 Hey man. I've finally decided to take the plunge. Going for Metallium! ? But a little help will be appreciated. Can I pm you in Hangouts? I've already added you to my circles.
Oh unfortunately I am not much of a hangout person ;)
If you need help you can PM me on XDA itself, I can provide you the necessary things what you want to know...

Just wan't to confirm about heating issue that every ROM has(that I've tried), does Mi3W heats up when 2G/3G data connection is on.
Because it really hurts to hands when device goes above 40 degree and it becomes very hard to hold the device in your hands or to receive call.

Please let me know about the heating issue.

I never faced any heating issue with this ROM when on 3G. BTW, I never really check the device temperature. But in all circumstances I never felt the heating issue what you mentioned. Hope this helps...

You can use Ampere or CPUZ app to check device temperature. I think this might be device specific, when I use 3G temperature goes upto 47 degree(You can imagine how much hot phone is getting).
And I faced this problem with Ivan's AOSP also. Don't know whether am I the only one who is facing this issue:confused:.
BTW thanks for confirmation maybe I'll give it try!

The answer is simple. The best rom in the world is the rom you like the best. What's right for some is not right for others. Plus xiaomi is a shady company with shady ways so it's no surprise there are multiple people having different issues all the time with the same rom.
