Yes, I have superuser. It came with this rom.
I do get that <write error>. When I tap any mode or amperage buttons, I get that error.
Download and run root checker from the market, if you do have full access re-install the usb app and make sure that you give it permission under su.

Installing su alone doesn't give you root, that's why I suggest that he checked to make sure that he is in fact rooted.

Edit: If you already have a terminal installed obviously you can just type su and if it returns with # then that also shows that you have full root access.

I checked, I have root. Still, I re-installed super-su and the USB Mode Utility. All the other apps which require su have an entry on super-su. USB Mode Utility never asks me to grant it su access. Hence, the <write error>. I have tried uninstalling it and install it from the /System/App folder, because I dunno, I'm a noob and thought it might help. No such luck. From what I read, the app has to ask the system for su when it runs an su process. I can't force it to have su if it doesn't ask for it.

Also, I have fresh-installed the previously mentioned rom a couple of times to get this app to work. It's a clean system as we speak.
Thanks for all your input.

By any chance have you tried uninstalling SU, rebooting, reinstalling it, installing UsbMode.apk, and THEN launching it and attempting to use UsbMode?
