I have a Pioneer head unit that has direct Ipod connection through auxillary inputs on the back, it's a USB connection that can either use the Ipods special USB or as I found out today, the USB that comes with our phones. It's able to access all the music on the phone (internal or SD)......I can't seem to get it to recognize playlists like I can my Ipod and the track listing is a little odd, but the audio quality is very good and it's a good option I think if you don't mind not having playlists.

I have a Kenwood receiver with iPod control. I would leave the iPod in the truck all the time and it killed the battery on my touch. after replacing the battery ( very scary) i don't keep it in there anymore. I now use a cheap USB micro SD reader and have several cards i can swap out anytime. Kenwood has a USB playlist program that creates a playlist of the files on the card( or flash drive)
For dinc I use the3.5 aux jack into the radio. Good quality sound.

My Pioneer head unit has a USB cable on the back of it, so I just load up an 8GB flash drive that I have with music, and plug it in. Best audio quality ever since all my mp3's are 320kbps and replaced my stock speakers with Infinity Kappa 4x6's in the front, and Rockford Punch 6x9's in the rear. Transferred the HU and speakers between both cars I've owned so far.
