U just need to flash the i897 gb bootloaders. Get them from the OP of the Guide by TRusselo that is a sticky thread in the q&a forum.
U must have the gb boots to run gb firmware.

Look in my signature link below (if on a pc) for some links to the i897ucKK4 android 2.3.5 one clicks that have the bootloaders included if u wanna go that route...but if u go this route u will have to Odin flash the KK4 Corn Kernel after in order to get Root/CWM Recovery...

i ran "i897uckk4 Odin One Click CONTAINS Bootloaders, Re-partition, Full Wipe" and after that flashed Corn KK4 but gain phone turns off after corn progress bar reaches half way. Is there not another way of rooting and installing custom recovery to run 4.1.2 custom roms ?

I'd say to re download Corn kernel and try flashing it again.

You don't need root, you simply need a cwm kernel. Corn is just the simplest one to get.

^ After this, does the phone not boot up or can u not boot into recovery ? Maybe something was wrong with the corn kernel ur using, bad download... And u r using the .tar file for Odin, correct ?

As for other ways...u could just try to follow TRusselo's Guide.

Well, well, you're on fire since last night :good: hehe

Like I mentioned before, .tar in PDA and .pit in PIT section when using Odin 1.85. I believe you know this though if you managed to flash it the first time.

When you flash stock KK4 with Odin, does your phone reboot itself? (You don't need to flash the bootloaders again so if you flash KK4, use the non-BLs version).

So if re-flashing Corn kernel doesn't work, I would reflash KK4 (without BLs), let the phone boot up, get in download mode and flash Corn again.

after so many days of utter frustration, what it took to get it into recovery was to just flash "speedmod-kernel-i897-k13e-500hz.tar" from Odin 1.85. when in recovery, I followed these steps:
Here's how to root:
- Boot into recovery menu (power off, power on holding Vol_Up+Home+Power)
- Select "advanced ULK features"
- Select "Install Superuser"
and then i installed Salty Bean and what happened was after successfully installing the rom, phone is always booting into recovery. I tried flashing PA as well but same thing happening there. Am i DOOMED or somethin ? :crying::crying::crying:

Speedmod kernel is for Froyo, while being one great kernel, it won't work on GB and up. I would suggest flashing Corn kernel with Odin 1.85 (no need to enable root) and then follow the FULL instructions to installing the ROM you want.

Note that from GB to JB, you need to install the ROM twice as it rewrites the partition so it goes like this: Flash KK4, flash Corn, flash ROM, reboot recovery, flash ROM, flash Gapps. This is said in all the ROM's installation instructions. A little reading goes a long way! ;)

After flashing KK4, are you able to boot up the phone completely? (before flashing Corn kernel)

Yes, i can boot the device fully after KK4 but then the phone loses the baseband as the status changes to Unknown. And when i flash the Corn, the problem starts of Half Way thing

Can you check if your IMEI is there and fine? Also, you might have to manually enter your carrier's APN.

Also, I'm not so sure what you mean by the half way thing.. When you flash it with Odin is stops half way? Or when you boot up the phone and go in recovery? There shouldn't be any loading going to recovery so I duno what you mean by that.

IMEI is perfectly fine and Sir i have very clearly stated in many of my posts that Corn progress bar reaches half way and then phone gets off. Moreover in post #34 i have also mentioned in the 2nd step that Odin flashes corn successfully

I understand that, where I'm confused is that when you boot the phone, there isn't a progress bar..? So I'm guessing it's the recovery bar when flashing? If so, is it shutting off and going back in recovery? Do you get any error before it goes off?

Changes are that when you're flashing, it tries to rebuild the partition, so it fails the first time and then you need to reflash the same ROM you just tried flashing. But once again that's a guess, I need more precise explanations of what is happening. I can't help you by guessing.

Please, be as clear and detailed as possible. Also, did you check your APNs? If your EMEI is fine, then that is probably why you don't have any signal. Other thing it could be is that you don't have a modem in your KK4 files.. Which if it's the case, I'd redownload it.

Ok here it goes then :

1. phone runs perfectly fine with 2.3.4 or 2.3.5 one clicks (phone network, speed, modem, IMEI - i mean everything fine).
2. for custom roms to work, in download mode i flash Corn and it flashes successfully and phone gets rebooted. (also tried this along with pit file)
3. now when the corn screen appears and when the its progress bar reaches half way, phone gets off and it never reaches to recovery.

moreover i also flashed KK4 after step 1 and phone reboots successfully in normal mode but loses modem (but i wonder do i really have to flash KK4).

And even if i skip KK4 and directly flash Corn, same thing happens.
and yes please provide me KK4 with modem so that we can find the network related issue
