Has anyone tried this update? (I'm still running 5/14 without any problems).

Also, what is the rotation bug Shane refers to? I haven't noticed it yet.
Unicorn,
Sometimes, for some people, for some apps, the rotation does not happen. I will sometimes have it work fine (email, podcast) and not for others (white noise, gas buddy). Your results may differ!

I have also just got around to installing the 6/24 version. I have confirmed the md5 for a good download. I tried dirty flashing over the 5/3 build and also did a clean flash, in both cases I am getting a android.phone failure and a UI failure and then it reboots into recovery. I also have dirty flashed with a new version of GApps and also the earlier April version I know works.

Anyone else having any install problems?

Dave

This must be a Sprint specific issue. My Sm-N9005 boots the 6/24 version perfectly, no app crashes at all. Then again, I don't have an active SIM card in mine, so maybe that's the difference. Then again, no one on the main thread is reporting app crashes either. I'll try to look into any Sprint specific changes this weekend, see if I can turn anything up.

Sigh...

I love Sprint, I really really do, and I enjoy the fact that I don't have to mess with a SIM card and they have been very good to me over the years.

That being said sometimes I do get tired being the redheaded stepchild of the cell phone world!

I apologize to any red-headed step children out there.

I am beginning to feel the squeeze in that I am noticing many of my apps just are not working anymore on KitKat based ROM and I am suspecting this is because KitKat is not based on a secure platform?

Anyway you are my hero! And I am very eager to make the jump to Oreo but unfortunately I am too reliant on a Bluetooth connection for my cell phone calls which has given me pause.

I guess I could dig out my old plug-in headset from 2005 and rock that ;)

I have been trying to read up on the general Note 3 thread and even reading a lot of the Resurrection Remix threads and I wish I knew why this one problem is managing to stump a lot of Brilliant Minds out there!

Dave....

I did try this yesterday first using the 6/24 file it was completely broke with android has stopped errors at first boot i came back here and searched the error and found that others were having the same issue so I tried the 5/14 file and it worked i then tried to dirty flash the 6/24 file and more errors so I went back to the 5/14 file in the end i saved the 5/14 in a backup and flashed my nand backup to my old nougout build because of a couple personal issue with saving my sms and call logs that i needed I may revisit this after the next update to see if the issues are resolved. I am on boost by the way which is basically the same as sprint

I would also like to add that I really appreciate the work that you put into this Shane to keep this phone alive

Glad I'm not the only one. The only build that flashes normally without errors is the May Oreo build.

Got the may build to work on my spring 900P. One question. Have any of the lighted button issues ever been resolved? don't see where to define the time those button lights are on.

Actually one more question after the fact. Can the double/long press be set up to launch an app or do I need to use another program for that?

Thanks much,
Dave

Hya Dave,

Yes, the lighted buttons work great for me. I did a write up on how to access it.

If I recall it goes..

Settings
System (very bottom choice)
Buttons
Toggle Hardware Keys off and on
Adjust backlight to desired settings (10 seconds for me is fine)

BONUS!

Scroll a little further down in Buttons settings you will see Double Tap Action change it to preferred action.

ENJOY!

A few bugs.

I will generate a LOGCAT as soon as I can reproduce the errors but wanted to capture and share if anyone else is having this situation. I dont know if it is a 'feature' or 'bug' but occasionally my screen will go all black with the time up at the top and inside a blue square. Pic enclosed.

This seems to be related to the 'play media with volume keys' but not sure. Just seems to happen occasionally when I look at my phone. It may be a feature for playback mode but I cant seem to unlock my screen. I use pattern lock and no degree of swiping or buttons seems to unlock it so I need to pull the battery.

Anyone else seen this?
Dave

EDIT. Did it again while I was out. I had disabled the 'volume keys play media' function. Only thing I can add is maybe happens when my phone gets jossled around in its holster or in my side pocket. I captured a LOGCAT for those that like those kind of things.

That is odd, doesn't work for me. When I toggle on/off and back on it lights up the lights for a bit and that's the only time they stay illuminated.

Dave, that is an issue I have seen at random on my test phone. It used to drive my wife nuts when it was her daily driver. I have never figured out exactly what is going on, but this weekend I will take a look at your logcat and see if I can turn anything up on it.

That is odd, doesn't work for me. When I toggle on/off and back on it lights up the lights for a bit and that's the only time they stay illuminated.

Try changing the slider to change the time, say 8 seconds.......
Guys, I've always had the issue of the button lights not working properly, and I have tried Dave's method to no avail. I'll see if I can look into it this weekend, time permitting.

Hey guys, just wanted to touch base with you all. I haven't forgotten the Note 3. I have just been super swamped at work, and taking vacation with the family. This weekend I am going to at least try to get a new build up, and see if I can dig in to some of these on going issues like the Bluetooth, random black screen with time in a blue box, the crashes on Sprint, and the button backlights. I do have to work an extra day this weekend, so I may not get much done, but I am trying to get back to doing weekly or bi-weekly builds.

I also have a question for everyone. How would you guys feel about me removing the sound boost from a couple of builds back and offering it as an add-on for those who need/want it? I have seen several reports of the volume being distorted since that volume boost went live.

Shane...

Glad it's not just me going crazy. Did your wife use a slide lock or a pin lock or no luck at all? So far I've had no issues with using a pin lock screen but we will see in a couple of days.

Another silly thing I noticed and not Mission critical but thought I would mention, is if I use Google Assistant to enter a date in my calendar it will force close after I tell at the time in the day and the title of the event. I tried switching over to using the Google search function instead of the Google Assistant but no difference and then I even tried loading a few different calendars to see if that would make a difference but no dice.

It's definitely a first world problem that I cannot use my thumb's to enter a meeting on my calendar, but in the spirit of Discovery just thought I would mention it.

This is why you are still my superhero! Thanks for your dedication with this ROM!

The sound boost thing being optional sounds good to me.

I'm glad you'll be looking into the issue with the Sprint Note 3. Thanks!

My wife used a slide lock. I have had a report that the black/blue screen issue is related to FlipFlap, an app that is built in to the ROM to enable use of Samsung's Flip case accessory. For example, FlipFlap allows you to have the phone turn on when the Flip case is opened. What I have been told is removing FlipFlap prevents the black/blue screen from showing up.

I don't mess with Google Assistant much, even on my daily driver, I find it is too battery intensive. Mostly because I can't resist playing with, lol. I would guess that it may be an issue between Calendar and the main Google app, and not something to do with this Rom at all. Then again, I may be entirely wrong on that as well. I'll look into it tomorrow if I get a chance.

So far no issues with using a PIN lock. I think I will keep a PIN for a while but will ditch Flip Flap if I go back to a slider.

In other news. Was able to load Magisk Manager and it passed the safety check and now have Android....er I mean Google Pay working....

Don't waste a lot of time and effort on Google Assistant. Just thought I would note it in case anyone else was having these issues.
I've made this my daily driver and except for the obvious Bluetooth issue I am loving this ROM and still discovering and tweaking as I go along.
Like you I need to find the time to set up and see if I can download and help diagnose the problem!!!!
